Canada’s Minister of Revenue to recognize influential Hispanics
Awards ceremony on November 12 in Vancouver

Vancouver-Toronto, October 23, 2014 – The Hon. Kerry-Lynne Findlay, Canada’s Minister of National Revenue
and in charge of the Canada Revenue Agency will address 250 executives, community leaders, diplomats and

media at the 8 annual “10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians” awards ceremony. The event will be held the
evening of Wednesday, November 12 at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Other dignitaries expected to
be in attendance include the Hon. Naomi Yamamoto, British Columbia’s Minister of Small Business, and His
Worship Gregor Robertson, Mayor of the City of Vancouver. One hundred tickets have already been sold with
only 150 tickets still available to the public.
The nominees come from five provinces and represent nine countries of origin. The event is organized by
LatinCouver under the coordination of the Canadian Hispanic Business Alliance. “LatinCouver’s partnership
with Toronto-based Hispanic Business Alliance for these awards provides a significant east-west platform for
our members. I look forward to congratulating all nominees and winners, and to provide continued value added
service to our members”, said Paola Murillo, Executive Director for LatinCouver. “As usual, the quality of the
nominees is outstanding and very reflective of our community from across Canada”, added Mauricio Ospina
from the Hispanic Business Alliance and real estate agent with VIP access in key Toronto developments such
as the Pan American Village.

Nominations for this year’s awards were declared open in July open at Calgary’s Fiestaval Latin Festival which
attracted over 60,000 people. The winners will be chosen by the past 70 winners, and journalists and
executives from the Globe & Mail, National Post, Toronto Star, CBC, Toronto 2015 Pan American Games,
Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance, Canadian Council for the Americas, Canadian Aboriginal & Minority
Supplier Council, Diversity Business Network, the University of Ottawa and the North American Association of
Asian Professionals. An officer from the Government of British Columbia reviews the selection procedure.
Since 2007, the “10 most” has had a presence in Montreal, Saskatoon, Calgary, Ottawa, Vancouver and
Toronto. The “10 Most” has recognized 70 Hispanics from seven provinces and 16 countries of origin. Past
winners met with the Prime Minister of Canada, Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper.
According to a Statistics Canada study based on the 2006 census, Canada's 740,061 Hispanics are five years
younger and more likely to be university educated than other Canadians. Most Hispanics live in the GTA and
more than 70 per cent have arrived in the last twenty five years. A recent study puts Spanish as the third most
commonly spoken language in Canada.

cargo de Canada Revenue Agency se dirigirá a 250 ejecutivos, líderes comunitarios, diplómalas y prensa
durante la 8ª edición del programa nacional “10 hispanos de más influencia en Canadá”. El evento se llevará a
cabo la tarde del miércoles 12 de noviembre en la Universidad Simon Fraser de Vancouver. Como asistentes
especiales se esperan también a la Honorable Naomi Yamamoto, Ministra de Negocios Pequeños de la
Columbia Británica así como a Su Señoría Gregor Robertson, alcalde de la ciudad. Cien tiquetes han sido
vendidos y solo quedan 150 disponibles al público.
Los nominados proceden de cinco provincias y representan nueve países de origen. El evento es organizado
por LatinCouver con la asesoría del Canadian Hispanic Business Alliance. “El acuerdo entre LatinCouver y
