The Key Club will be making valentines with the K Kids on Wednesday, February 4 from 3:30 – 4:30 at the Elementary School. There is a sign-up sheet on Room 416 for refreshments for the K Kids. The Key Club will then be delivering the valentines to a nursing home prior to Valentine’s Day. SPEECH TEAM WORKSHOP today, Tuesday, and also Thursday of this week. Boy’s Golf Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 27th, after school at 3:05 in room 500. Contact Coach Altherr using the school website coaches email if you cannot attend. Softball conditioning and open facility begin this week for any girl not in a winter sport who plans on trying out in the spring. Week of January 26th: Conditioning Mon, Wed, Fri 3:00-4:30 Softball open facility for next week has changed. Open facility is now on Monday, January 26th from 5:30-7:15 Not on Tuesday (due to an addition of a wrestling meet) * You need to have your physical on file to participate. * See Coach Lockwood (room 424) for an UPDATED calendar There will be a boy’s track call-out meeting on Wednesday, February 4 in the gymnasium. This is a mandatory meeting as information on ordering uniforms and practice packs will be given out. Ordering uniforms takes place before the season starts officially on February 17 so you need this info before practice starts. Distance, Shot put, and discus conditioning is going on now Monday through Friday from 3:00-4:15. Conditioning for all other events is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00-4:30. Meet in back hallway by locker rooms. See Coach Jones or Coach Hippensteel for more information. There is a sign-up sheet and practice schedule for the girl’s track team on Coach Jones’ office door next to the pool. The first practice is Feb. 16 th. Conditioning times are also posted on the door. In honor of the IU vs. Purdue basketball game, this Wednesday Mr. Trachtman and Mr. Morris are going to "trade places" . Mr. Trachtman will be donning the finest in Cream and Crimson. Possibly including candy stripe pants and a Bob Knight era sweater. He will also come to appreciate what it means to win 5 National Championships. Mr. Morris will be wearing "whatever they wear up there in West Lafayette". Mr. Morris will come to appreciate the great views of Mackey arena due to the stunning lack of banners. Your job will be to determine who is making the greatest improvement. If you prefer Mr. Trachtman in IU garb, place a dollar in his bucket. If you believe Mr. Morris is better in Gold and Black, place a dollar in his bucket. The buckets will be on a table in front of the cafeteria during all lunch periods. The winner will be determined by who collects the most funds for their school. The Huskies were led by Max Beale's 9 points. Drayden Thomas had 8 pts, Tyler Wiltermood 6 pts and Grant LePoidevin had 3 pts. The Huskies were victorious in the B game with a 44-39 win. Max Marshall led with 15 pts. Colton Welch had 7 pts. Michael Cross, Austin Hinds and Adam Gross had 6 pts each. Kyle Marcum had 4 pts. The freshmen play at Guerin on Wednesday. The Huskies finished up their regular season last night with a meet against Maconaquah. Senior Marc Mitchell went undefeated for the whole season in the 50 free, 100 free and the 100 Butterfly. John Fisher took 4th in the 100 backstroke and 3rd in the 100 freestyle with a personal best time. Nate Russell was 6th in the 100 free and 5th in the breaststroke. Freshman, Logan Fakes took 2nd in the 200 freestyle and 2nd in the breaststroke. Sam Rupe was 5th in the 50 free and 5th in the backstroke. The Husky boys head back to Maconaquah for MIC on Saturday morning. Guidance Announcements Denison University hosts a week-long residential summer program in creative writing . The Reynolds Young Writers Workshop will be held from June 14-21, 2015. The fee for the eight day program is $1,300. The Ivy Tech Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP) offers a solution to help students overcome these challenges. High School Parents: The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Public Education Forum on Workplace and School Violence will be held on January 29th at 7pm at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. Sheriff Bowen feels that it is necessary to educate the citizens of Hamilton County about what to look for, how to prepare, and what to do if an incident of workplace or school violence should occur. Scholarship Information Seniors: The Hamilton County Masters Gardeners Association is currently accepting applications for the 2015-16 Barney Hobbs Horticultural Scholarship. Five $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors or college students who are residents of Hamilton County and intend to major in Horticulture or a related subject such as agriculture, botany or landscape architecture/design. The Riverview Health Foundation will be awarding a $1,000 Malcolm Bray Medical Scholarship to one graduating senior from each of the seven Hamilton County public high schools. A scholarship committee, selected by each school system, will be responsible for preliminary student selections. The applicant must plan to pursue a career in the health care field (Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a medical field such as nursing, physical therapy, lab technology, etc.) – Dentistry is not applicable. The American Legion Auxiliary Medical Post 341 awards three (3) $500 scholarships to seniors entering a medical related field. Scholarship considerations include: GPA, school and community involvement, financial need, and applicant’s interest in chosen medical profession. Please feel free to pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All applications need to be handed into Mr. Trachtman before March 6, 2015. The Cicero American James Evans Legion Post 341 will award $2,000 in scholarships this year. The scholarship is in memory of Phil Kaiser – a dedicated member to the veterans organization and his community. Scholarship considerations include: dedicated classroom student, school and community involvement, financial need, applicant’s interest in chosen field, and veteran relationship. Please feel free to pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All applications need to handed into Mr. Trachtman before March 6, 2015. The Husky Champion Club, in honor of Chris Elbrecht, will be awarding one male student athlete (who will be attending college in the fall of 2015 and continuing their baseball career) a $500 scholarship. Scholarship criteria: enrolled in a Division 2,3, NAIA or Junior College program, cumulative GPA must be above a “C” average, community/school/church involvement, and positive mental attitude and leadership ability. The Husky Champions Club will be awarding a $500 scholarship to one senior male and female athlete who will be continuing their athletic careers at a Division 2,3, NAIA, or Junior College. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA above a “C” average, have a positive mental attitude/leadership ability, and shown community/school/church involvement. Please feel free to pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All applications must be handed into Mr. Trachtman by March 13, 2015. The Joe Booker Endowed Scholarship for Limited Government and Judeo Christian Values was established to provide financial assistance to a student who believes in constitutionally-based limited government based on Judeo Christian values. This scholarship is open to seniors who reside in Indiana, with a preference given to students residing in or from Arcadia or Cicero Indiana. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA to apply for the scholarship opportunity. Please feel free to pick up scholarship information in the Guidance Office. Students must submit their scholarship application using the CICF online application system which can be accessed by visiting www.cicf.org/scholarships. The application deadline is March 2, 2015. The Biddle Memorial Foundation Scholarship honors Velma and Ken Biddle, Sheridan residents, who achieved success through hard work and shared that success through philanthropic support of their community. This scholarship opportunity is open to seniors from either Sheridan or Hamilton Heights High School. This is a $2,500 scholarship (renewable for a 2nd year) to a student who plans to pursue a 2 year degree at Ivy Tech Community College, demonstrates financial need, and exemplifies leadership and community involvement/service.
