The event is set for the Tuesday before Valentine’s Day, February 10th. A reception will take place at 7:00 a.m. in the Las Vegas High School cafeteria (6500 E. Sahara Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89142) where individuals who are LVHS graduates & former PAL Program members turned military servicemen will return in uniform to their alma mater as special, surprise guests. Following the reception, nearly180 students will scatter to more than 20 non-profit organizations for a day of community service. Non-profit organizations expected to participate include: Candelighters for Childhood Cancer Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary Blind Center of Nevada Spread the Word Three Square Nevada State Veterans Home Opportunity Village East Valley Family Service Rape Crisis Center Saint Therese Center HIV Outreach The Shade Tree Make a Wish Foundation St. Jude’s Ranch for Children Assistance League Operation School Bell Since 1999, PAL students have served non-profit organizations throughout the Las Vegas valley on this special day. For example, PAL students sorted canned food donations at Las Vegas Rescue Mission, landscaped for Nevada Paralyzed Veterans of America, packed bag lunches at Three Square, cleaned house at Shade Tree, painted at YMCA, and helped Opportunity Village prepare for a special event. No job has ever been too grubby, tedious, or difficult. The PAL Program at Las Vegas High School is the oldest Career & Technical Education program of its type in Southern Nevada. In preparation for demanding careers, PAL students complete semester-long, weekly, unpaid internships at over 100 public and private sector job sites, including law firms, auto repair shops, City Hall, veterinary hospitals, and pharmacies. Student Chairmen Angelica Aniciete, Anthony Canseco, Victor Castenada, and Joseph Gervacio have been planning this year’s event for months. “We’re going to show Las Vegas some love!” said Canseco.
