2014 in Review 2014 was a busy and very successful year for our Friends of the Library. Thanks to your hard work and financial support, these are some of our accomplishments. Elected officers for two year terms, including new President Judy Chasey and new Treasurer Billie Sanders. Financially supported the annual Summer Reading Program, which served more children in 2014 than any year since 2008. The 2nd annual Princess Party fundraiser was an even greater success than our inaugural year, with more attendees and more funds raised. Our 2014 book sale raised over $1000 more than the previous year and was an enormous success. Thanks to a bequest from Bill and Jeanne Chapman, provided funds for refurbishing the Murrayville Library. The 2014 Mystery Dinner Theater was also a huge financial success and loads of fun. Once again, both nights were sold out, and we raised nearly $4000 to support library services. How can YOU help make 2015 an even more successful year? Friends of the Library Officers 2015 President Judy Chasey Vice-President Virginia Hale Secretary Karen Hickey Treasurer Billie Sanders Meeting Schedule 2015 Tuesday, January 27 Tuesday, April 21 Tuesday, August 18 Tuesday, November 17 Our next Friends meeting will be held Tuesday, January 27 at 5pm at the Gainesville Library. Dear Friends: Welcome 2015! Another new year is upon us and with projects for Friends in the coming months. In 2014 we held three fundraisers – Princess Party in February, Murder Mystery Dinner in April and our book sale this past September. Without the help and support of our members, success of these events would not have been possible. With the success of these events we have secured funding for both the children’s and adult summer reading program for 2015 along with continuing support for library projects, staff development and when possible, purchase of equipment and furnishings to benefit all patrons of the library system. In 2015 we are working on the third annual Princess Party scheduled for January 31st at the Spout Springs Library. This is our first fund raiser for the year and in years past it has been a delight to bring an afternoon of fun to the little princesses who attend. In March we will be presenting our annual Murder Mystery Dinner the evenings of March 20th and 21st. Watch the library’s newsletter and your email for announcement of ticket sales for the mystery dinner as they go fast and we promise a fun evening for everyone. As a member of Friends, you get advance notice of ticket sales. Now is the time to renew your membership for 2015, if you have not already done so, With your financial support, and involvement in projects, Friends will be able to contribute even more to library projects in the new year. Spread the word – encourage your friends and neighbors to join Friends and get involved. Being a member of friends doesn’t take a lot of time commitment and I think you will find working on one of our events fun. Our next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, January 27th at 5:00 pm at the Gainesville branch. See you then. Looking forward to your continued support to make 2015 a very successful year. Judy Chasey Friends of the Library President [email protected] Save the Date! Dinner Theater 2015 Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 The Director’s Corner Dear Friend, Christmas is always a time when many give to others less fortunate. At this time of year, I make a point to purchase toys for Toys for Tots and send a generous check to the Georgia Mountain Food Bank. And I do this every year plus make a lot of other smaller donations to local organizations. Put a dollar or two in every time you pass a Salvation Army pot and wish their Santa a good holiday. Times have been a little tough the past few years for the library system and donations to the Friends of the Library go a long way toward improving service to both you and those other 80,000 plus card holders from Hall County using our libraries. And while this is Christmas and a time of giving to others, it is ok to think about self. If you are a library user then that is what you are doing if you give to the Friends. But it is also a gift that goes a long way toward bringing hundreds of hours of good time to your neighbors who depend on borrowing books from their library for reading or help to make their use of their local library a success. Do you know how many kids get their start reading in the library? May the holidays this year be the best ever and you are fortunate enough to discover a new author that sends you back to the bookshelves to find their older tiles. Sometimes you just come across that author you just need to read and read and read until there is nothing but the newest titles that you then find yourself waiting for. And that waiting can seem an eternity. When is the next sequel to the Game of Thrones coming out? Or John Green’s newest?
