This year's SAT class will begin Feb. 17 and run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4 until March
12. Any junior or senior who would like to take the class needs to sign up with Mrs. Volz or Mr.
Towle by Thur., Feb. 12. The cost is $40. You can pay in cash or write a check to either Mrs.
Volz or Mr. Towle.

posted for all those who are planning to compete at Sectional on March
7th. Critiques from the Greensburg meet are now available for you to pick
up in room 505---REMINDER: regular workshop tomorrow – Thursday.
Hearing screenings for all sophomores and students new to the district will be held on
Thursday, January 29th. 10th grade students will be called down to the auditorium from science
classes throughout the day and students new to the district will be called down during periods 3
and 4.
Softball conditioning and open facility begin this week for any girl not in a winter sport who
plans on trying out in the spring.

Conditioning for softball is Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the fitness center after school.
There will be a boy’s track call-out meeting on Wednesday, February 4 in the gymnasium. This
is a mandatory meeting as information on ordering uniforms and practice packs will be given
out. Ordering uniforms takes place before the season starts officially on February 17 so you
need this info before practice starts. Distance, Shot put, and discus conditioning is going on
now Monday through Friday from 3:00-4:15. Conditioning for all other events is Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00-4:30. Meet in back hallway by locker rooms. See Coach
Jones or Coach Hippensteel for more information.
There is a sign-up sheet and practice schedule for the girl’s track team on Coach Jones’ office
door next to the pool. The first practice is Feb. 16 th. Conditioning times are also posted on the
door.
Key Club members - please sign up for the K Kids Valentine activity for next Wednesday after school
from 3:30 – 4:30. Also sign up to deliver the valentines on Tuesday, February 10 to the Riverwalk
Nursing Home. Sign up sheets are on Ms. Kaiser’s door #416.

The lady huskies dropped their match against visiting Westfield last night 71-34. Leading scorer
for the huskies was Ashton Runner with 11 points. The JV team also lost 44-37. Leading
scorer for the JV was Audrie Catron with 15 points. The Lady Huskies basketball team will be
playing for a share of the MIC title tomorrow at Lewis Cass. JV -11 am and Varsity at 12:30 pm.
Guidance Announcements
Denison University hosts a week-long residential summer program in creative writing . The
Reynolds Young Writers Workshop will be held from June 14-21, 2015. The fee for the
eight day program is $1,300. Please feel free to stop by the Guidance Office if you would
like more information.
Today’s students face a number of challenges that can make it difficult for them to
pursue a post-secondary degree. The Ivy Tech Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP)
offers a solution to help students overcome these challenges. ASAP students can earn
their associates degree in one year and be prepared to start their careers or transfer to a
four-year college. Please feel free to stop by the Guidance Office to learn more about this
opportunity.
Seniors: IUK’s Financial Aid Department is conducting FREE FAFSA Workshops for
seniors! IUK wants to offer assistance to students and parents so that they can
accurately complete the 2015-16 FAFSA. Please feel free to stop by the Guidance Office
if you would like more information.
Starting in 2014 Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville will be offering in-state tuition
to students from Indiana. Feel free to stop by the Guidance Office to learn more about
SIEU.
Ivy Tech is proud to present the American Honors College! American Honors is a selective
honors program at community colleges across the country for students who want to
transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree. Seniors can visit www. Apply.AmericanHonors.org to

Are you a senior who plans on attending Indiana University-Bloomington? The Collins
Living-Learning Center might be of interest to you. Collins is a close knit community of 500
students-the smallest residence hall on campus-and also a diverse one! For a student who
wants a small college experience at a major research university, the Collins Living-Learning
Center is a wonderful choice. To learn more about the Collins Living-Learning Center feel
free to pick up a brochure in the Guidance Office.
Seniors: The Associated Accelerated Program (ASAP) is a program at Ivy Tech that allows
students to earn a two year degree in just one year. Please stop by the Guidance Office to
learn more about this tremendously affordable way to complete an Ivy Tech degree!

Are you a highly academic high school interested in the field of Medicine? The National
Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine might be of interest to you. Stop by the Guidance

The Navy ROTC program is a great way to get college paid for… and be part of the Naval
branch of our Armed Forces. Notre Dame is the one school in-state that has a NROTC
program, but numerous out of state universities have this opportunity. Please feel free to
pick up information in the Guidance Office, or talk with the Navy representative who visits
our school.
Are you a senior interested in Indiana State University? Sycamore Preview Days
will be held on February 16, and April 18. Please feel free to call 800-GO-TO-ISU for
more information. In support of College GO Week ISU will waive its standard $25
undergraduate application fee during the entire month of September!
High School Parents: The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Public Education Forum on
Workplace and School Violence will be held on January 29th at 7pm at the Hamilton County
Fairgrounds. Sheriff Bowen feels that it is necessary to educate the citizens of Hamilton
County about what to look for, how to prepare, and what to do if an incident of workplace
or school violence should occur. For additional information contact the Sheriff’s Office at

Scholarship Information
Seniors: The Hamilton County Masters Gardeners Association is currently accepting
applications for the 2015-16 Barney Hobbs Horticultural Scholarship. Five $3,000
scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors or college students who are residents
of Hamilton County and intend to major in Horticulture or a related subject such as
agriculture, botany or landscape architecture/design. Applications can be downloaded at
www.HCMA.org. Please feel free to pick up an application in the Guidance Office. The
application deadline is March 15, 2015.
Beta Sigma Psi is proud to announce several scholarships available to Lutheran men who will
be starting college in 2015. Alumni from Beta Sigma Psi chapters at the University of
Illinois, Indiana University, and Purdue University will select well-qualified individuals to be
honored with the Christian Leadership Award, a $1,500 scholarship! Please feel free to
stop by the Guidance office to pick up a scholarship application. The application deadline is
February 14, 2015.
Hunter Law office is proud to award one deserving high school senior with a $500
scholarship! The Twists and Turns scholarship is open to all qualified high school students
from Hamilton County. Please feel free to pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance
Office. The application deadline is April 17, 2015.
High School Seniors interested in furthering their education at a college or technical
school could be eligible for the North Central Co-op Scholarships. Go to www.ncc.coop to
learn more about this scholarship opportunity. All completed applications and transcripts

Are you a senior interested in majoring in Business at Ball State University next fall? The
Miller Scholarship and Miller Business Scholarship might be of interest to you. To be
considered for the Miller Scholarship, applicants must have high grades and test scores.
The current Miller Scholarship recipient had a cumulative GPA of 3.82, a mean SAT score
of 1850 and an average composite score for the ACT was 28. All scholarship materials
must be received by Ball State by January 31, 2015. Program information, application, and

Are you a senior interested in attending the University of Dayton? UD is pleased to offer
the opportunity to award one graduating senior the Leadership in Service Scholarship
worth $2,500 annually. Please feel free to stop by the Guidance Office if you would like

Are you a senior who plans on pursuing further education with either a major or minor in
Music? Do you have a cumulative GPA above a “C” average? The Hamilton County Choral

Are you a senior interested in pursuing an accredited post- secondary educational program
in fashion design? The “Aspiring Fashion Professional” Scholarship might be of interest to

Are you a senior interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited postsecondary institution? The “Aspiring Animation Professional” Scholarship might be of

Are you a senior planning to pursue a career in a health-related field at a post-secondary
college, university, or technical school? The PHP Scholarship Program might be of interest

February 20th, 2015. You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
The Christian Connector provides a FREE Christian college information service as well as a
$2,500 Christian college drawing. Students can simply log onto

$2,500 scholarship drawing!
Are you a senior student (male) who plans on attending Indiana University? The Sigma Phi
Epsilon Fraternity “Balanced Man” Scholarship might be of interest to you. Please feel

scholarship opportunity.
The Indiana Breast Awareness Trust, Inc. (IBCAT) is currently accepting applications for
the Nancy Jaynes Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship of up to $1,500 for college or
post-secondary schooling is awarded to an Indiana High School Senior (s) whose parent is
battling breast cancer or who has lost a parent to breast cancer. Students may download
an application at: www.breatcancerplate.org. The application deadline is February 9, 2015.
Are you a high school senior who plans on majoring in Health and Human Science or a
related field? The Hamilton County Extension Homemaker’s Association awards four $500
scholarships for students from Hamilton County. For the 2015-15 school year, the
Hamilton County Extension Homemakers will be awarding two additional $500 scholarships
to two students majoring in Elementary Education! Feel free to go online to download an

Seniors: Over the next 3 months there will be numerous local scholarships to apply for
through the Guidance office. Winners of these scholarships will be recognized at Honors
Night on May 13. Please make sure you apply for these scholarships in a timely manner. All
scholarships need to be handed into the Guidance office by the scholarship application due
date. No late scholarships will be accepted. Please make sure to hand your scholarship

Are you a high school senior who plans on majoring in Engineering, Technology, Design or
Business, with an interest in the automotive industry? The Buick Achievers Scholarship
seeks to recognize extraordinary students who have overcome obstacles and have worked

The Chi Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi is proud to announce the presentation of a $1,000
scholarship. This scholarship will be presented to a 2014-15 graduating senior who plans
to become a teacher and who is from a school where Chi Chapter members taught; or to a
relative of a Chi Chapter member as a legacy award. The application deadline is March 6,

The Ryan White Scholarship will be given to a senior at Hamilton Heights High School
Senior pursuing a four-year bachelor’s degree (or higher) in one of the following fields:
Health, Medicine, or Education. A minimum of two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to
recipients. Please feel free to pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All
applications must be handed into Mr. Trachtman in the Guidance Office by February 27,
2015.
The Hamilton North Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present the Times/Hamilton
North Chamber $750 Scholarship opportunity to a college-bound senior. Scholarship
applications will be judged on: GPA, Extracurricular Activities, Leadership Skills, and
Involvement in his/her Community. Applications are now available at:

The Riverview Health Foundation will be awarding a $1,000 Malcolm Bray Medical
Scholarship to one graduating senior from each of the seven Hamilton County public high
schools. A scholarship committee, selected by each school system, will be responsible for
preliminary student selections. The applicant must plan to pursue a career in the health
care field (Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a medical field such as nursing, physical
therapy, lab technology, etc.) – Dentistry is not applicable. The applicant must have a least
a “B” cumulative GPA and demonstrated community leadership. Please feel free to pick up a
scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All applications need to be handed into Mr.
Trachtman before March 20, 2015.
The American Legion Auxiliary Medical Post 341 awards three (3) $500 scholarships to
seniors entering a medical related field. Scholarship considerations include: GPA, school
and community involvement, financial need, and applicant’s interest in chosen medical
profession. Please feel free to pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All
applications need to be handed into Mr. Trachtman before March 6, 2015.
The Cicero American James Evans Legion Post 341 will award $2,000 in scholarships this
year. The scholarship is in memory of Phil Kaiser – a dedicated member to the veterans
organization and his community. Scholarship considerations include: dedicated classroom
student, school and community involvement, financial need, applicant’s interest in chosen
field, and veteran relationship. Please feel free to pick up a scholarship application in the
Guidance Office. All applications need to handed into Mr. Trachtman before March 6,
2015.
The Husky Champion Club, in honor of Chris Elbrecht, will be awarding one male student
athlete (who will be attending college in the fall of 2015 and continuing their baseball
career) a $500 scholarship. Scholarship criteria: enrolled in a Division 2,3, NAIA or Junior
College program, cumulative GPA must be above a “C” average, community/school/church
involvement, and positive mental attitude and leadership ability. Please feel free to pick up
a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All scholarship applications need to be
handed into Mr. Trachtman before March 13, 2015.
The Husky Champions Club will be awarding a $500 scholarship to one senior male and
female athlete who will be continuing their athletic careers at a Division 2,3, NAIA, or
Junior College. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA above a “C” average, have a positive
mental attitude/leadership ability, and shown community/school/church involvement.

must be handed into Mr. Trachtman by March 13, 2015.
The Joe Booker Endowed Scholarship for Limited Government and Judeo Christian Values
was established to provide financial assistance to a student who believes in
constitutionally-based limited government based on Judeo Christian values. This
scholarship is open to seniors who reside in Indiana, with a preference given to students
residing in or from Arcadia or Cicero Indiana. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA to apply
for the scholarship opportunity. Please feel free to pick up scholarship information in the
Guidance Office. Students must submit their scholarship application using the CICF online
application system which can be accessed by visiting www.cicf.org/scholarships. The
application deadline is March 2, 2015.
The Biddle Memorial Foundation Scholarship honors Velma and Ken Biddle, Sheridan
residents, who achieved success through hard work and shared that success through
philanthropic support of their community. This scholarship opportunity is open to seniors
from either Sheridan or Hamilton Heights High School. This is a $2,500 scholarship
(renewable for a 2nd year) to a student who plans to pursue a 2 year degree at Ivy Tech
Community College, demonstrates financial need, and exemplifies leadership and community
involvement/service. Completed applications must be emailed to [email protected] by
March 2, 2015.
Are you a senior interested in entering the field of Cosmetology? Kaye’s Beauty College is
offering scholarship opportunities! Please feel free to pick up scholarship information in
the Guidance Office.
The Lions Club Academic Scholarship opportunity is open to seniors. Please feel free to
stop by the Guidance Office to pick up scholarship information. All scholarship applications
need to be handed into Mr. Trachtman by March 6, 2015.
The Atlanta New Earth Festival Committee is pleased to present a $1,000 non-renewing
scholarship for a 2015 graduate of Hamilton Heights High School. The intent of this
scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a student who may not otherwise receive
scholarship aid and has a financial need. Please feel free to pick up an application in the
Guidance Office. All scholarship applications need to be handed into Mr. Trachtman by
March 13, 2015.
Are you a senior who will major in Secondary or Elementary Education in college? The
Hamilton Heights $500 Faculty Scholarship might be of interest to you. Please feel free
to pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All scholarship applications
need to be handed into Mr. Trachtman by February 27, 2015.
Cicero Kiwanis will award the William Conder $2,000 scholarship to a graduating Hamilton
Heights senior. Financial need, school and community activities, and community service will
be important criteria in evaluating applicants. Students will provide a written essay and will
be interviewed by the Kiwanis membership. Please feel free to pick up a scholarship
application in the Guidance Office. All applications need to be handed into Mr. Trachtman
by February 27, 2015.
Cicero Kiwanis will award the Key Club $1,000 scholarship to a graduating Hamilton
Heights senior. Applicants must be a current and active member of Key Club. Community
service and being active in school and community activities are important criteria in
evaluating applicants. Students will provide a written essay and will be interviewed by the
Kiwanis membership. Please feel free to pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance
office. All applications need to be handed into Mr. Trachtman by February 27, 2015.
Are you a senior who plans to attend a Technical/Vocational School (Ivy Tech, Mechanical
School, Business School, Culinary School) after graduating from high school? The Cicero
Kiwanis Technical/Vocational Scholarship may be of interest to you. Please feel free to
pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All applications need to be handed
into Mr. Trachtman by February 27, 2015.
Are you a senior committed to pursuing an education and career in Law Enforcement? The
Indiana Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship might be of interest to you. All applicants must
have taken the SAT or ACT to apply. Please feel free to pick up an application in the
Guidance Office. All applications need to be mailed to the Indiana Sheriffs; Association
before April 1, 2015.
Are you a senior who plans on pursuing a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in the Engineering field at an
accredited institution? The Nick Ozolins $1,000 Scholarship might be of interest to you. Nick was a 2010
graduate of Hamilton Heights High School and was very involved in the Engineering Department. This
scholarship has been established to carry on his love of engineering and love for his community. Please
feel free to pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All applications need to be handed
into Mr. Trachtman by March 20, 2015.
The Naomi R. Williamson $100 Scholarship will be awarded to a senior at Hamilton Heights High School
who has a relative who is or was a member of an Extension Homemakers Club. Naomi dedicated her life
to community service. She was a member of the Hamilton County Extension Homemakers for over 60
years! Please feel free to pick up a scholarship in the Guidance Office. All scholarship applications need
to be handed into Mr. Trachtman by March 27, 2015.
Are you a senior on the Men’s Soccer team? Do you have at least a “B” cumulative grade point average?
The Matthew Cahill $500 Soccer Scholarship may be of interest to you. Matthew was intelligent, wise,
athletic, sociable, humorous, and intense – with his greatest gift being perseverance. Please feel free to
pick up a scholarship application in the Guidance Office. All applications need to be handed into Mr.
Trachtman by March 20, 2015.
The Phi Beta Psi Sorority is proud to present a $400 scholarship to a deserving senior. Selections will be
based upon the following criteria: Leadership, Community Involvement, Scholarship, Citizenship, and
