everyone to get involved in
more activities.
Prior to the 2014 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade
I would ask that if you have

A Note From The President
February 2015 – HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Oh, wait, sorry, that was last month, my how time flies when
you’re having fun, it’s already February!!! I’ll start with a Heartfelt “Thank you” to all of you that came to
the Corvette Club of Hawaii’s End of the Year Banquet. We had 40 members present; the most I’ve seen
in one place in a very long time! Thank you all for coming out. I hope everyone had a good time.
This month we’ve got our first parade of the year and it’s one of the big ones. The Night in Chinatown
Parade is scheduled for Saturday, 14 February 2015, and line-up will begin around 2:30 p.m. on Richards
Street next to the Capitol Building. We’re going to need a lot of Corvettes so please come on out. This
parade is also one of the fun ones to drive in because of the downtown crowds and it’s the only time you’ll
get to drive down Hotel Street without getting a ticket!! We don’t yet have a number from the
coordinators but we’ll have that soon.
We’re also going to have a Bake Off at Dan and Sue Carpenter’s on Saturday, 21 February 2015 at 4:00
p.m. If you can bake it, bring it!! Dan’s address and directions are in the newsletter and on the website.
Coming up in March is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Waikiki and this one is just plain and simply on the
schedule because it’s fun. We don’t carry anyone (normally) and it’s pretty quick. Afterward, we are
planning on a Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner Party in the place of the dinner meeting; we’re still looking
for a volunteer to host.
So, by the end of March, we will have already done two parades and held three non-driving events but NO
Corvette/driving related events. We need ideas. If there is anything you, the membership, would like to
do, please bring it to the attention of any of the board members so we can get it placed on the calendar.
They’re Corvettes, Let’s drive ’em!!

Corvette Engine Build Experience Is Back, But Only For Z06 Buyers
(by Nelson Ireson)
For several years, Chevrolet allowed buyers of high-end Corvette models like the Z06 and ZR1 to
help assemble the engine powering their car as part of a special engine build experience. The
program took place at General Motors
Company’s Performance Build Center,
located at Wixom, Michigan, and cost
$5,800. Radio host Todd Schnitt of Tampa,
Florida was the first to sign up.
Last year, the Performance Build Center
was relocated to the Corvette factory in
Bowling Green, Kentucky and the engine
build experience put on hiatus. Well, we’re
glad to report that the program is
scheduled to recommence in March, with
buyers of the Z06 now eligible to sign up.
While buyers of the Stingray miss out, they
can still arrange to watch their car being built or have it delivered at the National Corvette
Museum.
The cost of the engine build experience has been reduced to $5,000 and it includes a full day with a
Performance Build Center engine assembly technician who instructs and oversees the build of the
Z06's 650-horsepower supercharged V-8, a personalized engine plaque identifying the owner/
builder and the date of the engine build, and professional photography of the day.
Upon completion, the engine moves to the vehicle assembly area of the plant where it will be
installed with the scheduled assembly of the buyer’s Z06. Unfortunately, there’s a delay between
the time the engine is built and when it’s actually installed—the delay is due to the scheduling
process for vehicle assembly, which depends on a number of logistical variables—so anyone signed
up for the assembly line tour will have to make a second trip to the Corvette factory.

The End of the Year Banquet was held at the Waikele Country Club for the third or fourth year in a row
now, I forget which. There were 40 members present, which is almost half the Club! That is the most
I’ve seen at any one event in a very long time and I would certainly like to see that kind of attendance
throughout the rest of the year. We held a short, semi-abbreviated General Membership Meeting
during which we discussed the update to the bylaws and
went over our seemingly light schedule for the first
three months. Then we continued on with the Banquet.
Highlights include installing the new, mostly old, Board
Members who have now taken the reigns, Yee Haw!! A
photo op was taken for the Outgoing Board Members
followed by a photo op later in the evening for the
Incoming Board Members. We also announced the
Members of the Year and President’s Award recipients
and last but not least, we held the drawing for the Lucky
Member who this year was Gary Tahara, but
unfortunately, he was not present and as the rule says,
you must be present to win, so the award then went to
Bryan Tayona and unfortunately, he wasn’t present either, so the award had to go to someone else.
Please see below for the complete list of Lucky (and not so lucky) Members.

Dinner Meeting
Dinner Meeting – Liliha Bakery
January 20th, 2015
This year’s first Dinner Meeting was held at the Liliha Bakery on Nimitz. We originally had only 6 people
signed up and of those 6, only 2 made it to the meeting. But that’s alright since 12 other people that had not
signed up did make it out. Liliha Bakery does not take reservations but it was no problem for them to set up
an area for us which just kept getting larger as more people showed up. Conversation was lively and
boisterous and everyone had a good time. Service was outstanding and our food was brought to us quickly.
Nobody ordered dessert afterwards, however, due to the strategic location of the bakery counter (right next
to the exit); it was more than a few minutes before we all got out the door. Those of us in attendance were:
Michael & Gail Mastronardi, Rich & Jan Witek, Rich Witek Jr., Dennis Freitas & Cathy Jorge, Ron Kennedy,
John & Carol Saporito, Tim Smith, Ken & Sandy Nakamura and Chris Morris.
Chris
(Editor’s Note: Locations for the Dinner Meetings for the upcoming months have not been determined. If you
have a suggestion, feel free to contact a board member. We would like to make an effort to try some new
places, so please keep that in mind. Mahalo.)
