The content of this program is geared towards Chief Residents and Fellows who treat
fractures and/or knee osteoarthritis on a frequent basis.
Educational Objectives
Following this educational activity participants should be able to:
• Know the chronology of events involved with the healing of bone and how each event
relates to the development of mechanically competent callus.
• Know the local and systemic factors that promote, retard, and inhibit fracture healing.
• Describe the impact of smoking, diabetes, and age on fracture healing.
• Understand the differences between bone stimulation technologies.
• Understand the mechanism of action for low intensity pulsed ultrasound.
• Understand treatment therapies for early knee osteoarthritis.
• Understand the mechanism of action for hyaluronic acid.

Faculty
Chris Brodie, PhD
Scientific Liaison, Bioventus. Dr. Brodie is a molecular biologist who works on
pre-clinical research and early-stage development of new indications for EXOGEN.
He also works directly with clinicians and speaks frequently about the mechanisms
of action for EXOGEN and SUPARTZ.
Vinod Dasa, MD
Associate Professor, Clinical Orthopaedics at Louisiana State University. Dr. Dasa’s
research interests cover all areas of adult orthopaedics, but have primarily focused
on joint replacement. In his clinical practice, he uses minimally invasive surgery (MIS)
and computer navigation to treat patients. Dr. Dasa has presented his findings at
national and international conferences.
Thomas Einhorn, MD (Course Chair)
Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery,
Biochemistry and Biomedical Engineering at Boston University: Dr. Einhorn is Deputy
Editor for Current Concepts Reviews for The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and
serves on the Editorial Boards of The Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, Journal
of Orthopaedic Research and Bone.
Samir Mehta, MD
Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery & Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma at the
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Mehta’s clinical expertise and interests
include trauma surgery, total joint arthroplasty,and spine surgery. His basic science
research interests are in biomechanics and orthobiologics. Dr. Mehta took an active
role as a volunteer in the earthquake relief effort in Cange, Haiti.
