Exhibiting Companies: Host Companies The Hill Group – Hill Mechanical The Hill Group is a Chicago-based professional organization engaged in construction, maintenance and operation of building systems, all with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. In business for nearly 80 years, the family-owned business employs over 800 people, including 550 skilled tradesmen. The Hill Group’s construction division specializes in HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and fire suppression systems. Project markets include: healthcare, data centers, education, pharmaceutical, government, high rise buildings, cultural/sports facilities, central plants, and manufacturing. The Hill Group’s service division specializes in energy solutions, commissioning, test and balance, LEED consulting, as well as service and building maintenance. A primary goal of The Hill Group is to maximize Building Information Modeling (BIM) efficiencies by prefabricating as much piping, plumbing, sheet metal and fire protection as possible. Each trade uses standardized construction techniques where LEAN manufacturing principles are stressed. It focuses on BIM collaboration project types such as: Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Design Assist, Design Build, and plan/spec coordination scopes. These collaboration techniques have allowed The Hill Group to work directly with owners to push modular construction during the design phases of projects. The Hill Group will continue to leverage new technologies and invest in new fabrication and construction techniques, providing quality, safe, and efficient installations while promoting long-term growth. President Jim Hill; Vice President of Construction and Operations Brian Teyama; and General Manager Anthony Camasta will lead the tour and discussions. Mechanical, Inc. – A Helm Group Company Mechanical, Inc. is a family-owned company that performs $150 million of HVAC piping, process piping, plumbing, sheet metal, and HVAC service work throughout the U.S., but primarily in the Great Lakes states. Mechanical’s parent company, the Helm Group, has been in existence since 1946 and combines mechanical construction with heavy highway, industrial, and commercial general contracting for combined revenue of $300 million. Operating out of multiple pipe and sheet metal fabrication shops, Mechanical has performed fabrication for its own construction projects as well as for outside customers in 30 different states and multiple countries. Mechanical has fabricated water treatment skids for the Middle East, telescope platforms for NASA, pipe and ductwork for large hospitals, as well as many other projects of all sizes and scopes. Mechanical’s fabrication activities are divided into seven areas. The first is modularization where multi-trade utility racks are fabricated offsite and then delivered as a unit to the facility. The second is traditional pipe fabrication where the newest welding and joining technologies are used. The third is duct fabrication where both spiral and rectangular duct is fabricated for both Mechanical and for other contractors. Fourth, itl fabricates architectural sheet metal including steel roofing and ornamental metal features. Fifth is hanger fabrication in which the projects are designed and fabricated in the shop. Sixth is structural steel fabrication, and the seventh is skid-mounted systems, including pump systems and plumbing assemblies. Mechanical, Inc. is always investing in its future and its fabrication shops are a testament to its long-term outlook. President Brian Helm and Operations Manager Jeff Knoup will lead the tour and discussions. Our sincere appreciation is extended to our host companies for their generous support. The exchange of ideas on tools and techniques is always welcome. To submit Best Practices information, please contact Sean McGuire at 301-869-5800 ext. 216 or by email to [email protected].
