SunSmart Policy
Greenwith Primary School is an accredited SunSmart school through the Cancer Council of Australia. We have put in
place the following measures to protect our students, staff and parents from sun damage:







All staff, students and parents/carers are aware of the skin protection policy and it’s intended practices.
The policy is in place from 1 September to 30 April
The rescheduling of outdoor activities where possible to minimise time outdoors in peak UV times – especially
between 10am and 3pm – is encouraged and implemented from September to April.
Available areas of shade are used as much as possible during outdoor activities.
Staff and students wear a broad-brimmed, legionnaire or bucket style hat while involved in outdoor activities.
Students wear sun protective clothing when outdoors – collared shirts with at least elbow length sleeves and longer
style pants/shorts
The use of SPF 30+ broad spectrum sunscreen is supported, with time for application allowed.
Learning about skin protection is incorporated across most year levels.
All classes have been provided with a pump pack of 30+ Cancer Council sunscreen for students to use. Teachers will
allow students time to apply sunscreen prior to recess or extended outdoor activities. No teacher will apply
sunscreen to a student. As part of our general consent form for 2015 there is a consent to use our sunscreen or not.
If permission is not given to apply the sunscreen provided by the school, it is then the parent’s responsibility to
supply sunscreen for use at school.
Greenwith Primary School will be participating in a state wide fundraiser to raise money for
animals impacted by the SA Bushfires, through the RSPCA SA.
th
On Friday, 13 February we will be having a Casual Clothes Day encouraging all
students to come to school in fire colours (red, orange, yellow and black) and donate a gold coin.
Casual clothes need to be Sunsmart and if you are not participating in the fundraising please
wear your regular Greenwith school uniform.
Thank you for supporting this great cause.

Need help managing stress or anxiety?
If your child or teen has difficulties with anxiety or just
seems to have too many worries, we would like to
introduce you to BRAVE Self-Help – an interactive, online
program for the prevention and treatment of childhood
and adolescent anxiety. It was developed by a group of
researchers from the University of Queensland and now,
with the support of beyondblue, this program is now freely
available to all young people aged 8 -17 years old who are
living in Australia. BRAVE Self-Help provides strategies for
children and teenagers to better cope with their worries.
There are 4 programs available, one for children aged 8-12
years, one for teenagers aged 12-17 years and one for
parents of children at these ages respectively. The
program can be accessed as often as you like, from the
comfort of your own home. For more information, or to

Medication at School
If your child needs to take short term medication at school ie. antibiotics, paracetamol, nurofen etc the medication is
required to be delivered to the front office in the original container with the label from the pharmacy. The medication
must be within the expiry date of the product. A medication authority must also be completed by the parent.
Carpark Driveway Safety
Students and parents are reminded not to use the carpark driveway entrance as a
thoroughfare. Due to heavy traffic flow through the carpark and kiss and drop area it
is dangerous for children to be walking on the road.
Please ensure that all pedestrian access is via the school gates only.
Thank you
