Thomas (Tom) J. Walmsley
Senior Vice President and General Manager
Marine & Land Systems
Tom Walmsley is senior vice president and general manager of Textron Systems’ Marine & Land
Systems business, as well as a member of the Textron Executive Leadership Team. In this role, he
sets the strategic path for both the marine- and land-focused business segments, supervises the
execution of key programs and oversees all aspects of site infrastructure. Marine & Land Systems
designs, produces and supports advanced wheeled vehicles and cutting-edge maritime craft used by
the United States and international armed forces, as well as civilian entities around the globe.
During his 10 years with the company, Walmsley has overseen all product areas, as well as
aftermarket support for marine and land products. He has also brought in more than six billion dollars
in orders, as well as put together two highly competitive capture teams: one to win the U.S. Navy Shipto-Shore Connector program, and one to win the Canadian Forces Tactical Armored Patrol Vehicle
(TAPV) program.
Under Walmsley’s leadership, Marine & Land Systems has earned several awards, including the
Textron Chairman’s Awards for Innovation, Growth, Productivity and Service (CAI).
Walmsley has spent more than 30 years in the aerospace industry. He held a number of program
management positions during 21-years with Boeing, including director of Air and Missile Defense
programs. He was responsible for pursuit and development of future Short Range Air Defense
(SHORAD) related programs. Walmsley was also a site chief systems engineering functional
manager, engineer of military programs and has led various independent research and development
programs.
Walmsley earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Northern Arizona University.
