MISSION STATEMENT
“We reach out to all through prayer and service, as we live our
Catholic faith in Christ with Mary”
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
A Note from Fr. Mike
While the reading from the Gospel of Mark and
Paul’s letter to the Corinthians are about two
different things, Jesus’ authority and Paul’s
discipleship, they both help us to grow in our
ability to be disciples of Christ. First, we must
listen. Not simply hear, but listen to what God is
teaching us and asking us. We must also remain
focused on Christ. We must make Christ the
highest priority in our lives. In doing so, we not
only allow God to guide and help us, but we
enhance all of the other important relationships in
our lives and are also able to be a reflection of
God’s love for others.
Peace, Fr. Mike

Immaculate Heart of Mary invites you to become a
permanent part of our prayer garden dedicated to Our
Lady of Fatima, located on the side of the church. We
are planning on doing two walkways that lead up to our
statue, as well as having bricks surrounding our Blessed
Mother. We are offering two sizes of bricks, 4” x 8” for
$75 and 8” x 8” for $150. You will be able to place an
order online at www.bricksrus/order/IHM or you can
purchase a brick by simply filling out an order form and
mailing it back to IHM.

Wanted: New or Used Communion Dresses & Suits
IHM is helping the Archdiocese of Newark collect gently
used and new communion outfits. First Communion is one
of the seven sacraments of Catholic faith, usually celebrated
when children are seven or eight years old and preparations
can be a strain on the family’s budget. Your donations can
help families in need celebrate this milestone.
Our collection period is Feb. 23 through Mar. 20. Please
bring your donations to the Nazareth Center. Thank you.
Men’s Cornerstone VIII
St. Bartholomew The Apostle Church
Friday Evening & Saturday—March 13th & 14th
Fliers/registration forms can be found at the church doors.
Questions call Joe Viviano at 908 370-7473 or Rich
Scannell at 908 578-5968.
A little note with a big thank you to our generous IHM
parishioners for donating 900 gifts to our giving tree. Kathy
Mitchell and Maureen Pecoraro, the two IHM ministers who
coordinated this huge project received thank you letters
from the recipients of these gifts. Here are two excerpts:
“Thank you so very much for your efforts in providing gifts
for the children of the Newark YMCA. You helped make
the 2014 Christmas party a tremendous success”.
Rotary Club of Newark
“The generosity of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church has
been overwhelming this holiday season. A thank you for
choosing to support our moms and their children”

Scriptural Reflection
4th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Brothers and sisters: I should like you to be free of
anxieties.” Corinthians 7:32
How much anxiety do we bring upon ourselves by
constantly worrying about not having enough or attaining
more things? God won’t necessarily give you everything
you want, but He will provide everything you need.
Try this —use the word “pray” instead of the word “worry”
in the future.

St. Bartholomew Academy
New Year, New Chances to Learn
Our third grade students have been very busy this
month studying geometry and learning about each
other. Mrs. Maria Stetin has guided the students
through some fun and hands-on projects to enhance
their math skills. The Geometry Monster Glyph
project allowed the students to focus on different
geometry concepts. The students had to answer
questions about themselves; such as the color of their
hair or the number of children in their family with each
answer corresponding to the use of one or more
polygons, angles, and assembly instructions. Next, the
students followed their individualized instruction to
build a “geometry monster.” The students’ next project
will be the creation of a town or place using line
segments as streets and various shapes to create
locations and then provide written directions from one
place to another.
Each year, Mrs. Stetin sets time aside to celebrate
each child. Over an 11-week period, two children
each week will be “Superstars” of the week. The
“superstars” will create a poster about themselves, be
assigned a day to bring something in to share with the
class, such as a favorite food or item, and answer
classmates’ questions about themselves. To further get
to know each other, the third graders completed a New
Year’s project that focused on predicting what would
happen to them this year, what they wanted to
accomplish, and what their wishes were for the year.
We are very proud that our younger students continue
to fulfill the mission of our Academy—to Strive
academically, Build character, and Achieve their
goals.
