The following summary list the most common questions we receive about the board and
what it is like to be a board member. Please read it over. If you’re still interested,
please call 214-466-3365. We will be happy to answer any other questions that you
might have.
What do the board members do?
The Executive Board of directors is the governing body of Regenerated Hope and the
Advisory Board provides professional advice and leadership. The Executive Board sets
the overall policy and goals which are then carried out by the staff. As a growing
organization with a new direction, Regenerated Hope welcomes professional guidance
that will put us on the road to accomplishing our mission.
Both boards meet on the second Thursday of every month at 7:00pm at the Martin
Luther King Jr. Center in the South Dallas / Fair Park community of Dallas. The
Executive Board meets at 6:00pm and the Advisory Board meets at 7:30pm.
Meetings usually last about 1.5 hours. In addition, there are a few special events (such
as school board and Texas Education Agency meetings and conferences) which board
members periodically attend.
Are board members paid?
Board members are volunteers and do not receive a salary. However, we do pay all of
your travel and meal costs to attend the meetings. We will also reimburse you for child
care costs if you need to hire childcare. Even though Board members do not receive a
salary, there are many benefits to sitting on our board. Some of them are:
 Excellent way to be instrumental in providing a solution to community challenges
and issues.
 Important decision-making voice in laying the foundation for a great organization.
 Develop and/or enhance your skills in; budgeting, management, public speaking,
supervision and more.
 Addition to your resume, graduate school application or public office opportunity.
 Opportunity to attend very educational and instructive conferences in different
and exciting cities. Your expenses to attend these conferences are paid for by
our organization.
 Meet interesting and important like-minded individuals.
 Liability coverage under our organization policy umbrella.
How long does a board member serve?
Members serve for a term of one (1) year.
Would I have to make speeches?
No, not unless you want to. Some of our board members do make presentations on
behalf of our organization; particularly graduate students who can receive academic
credit, however, most do not.

What if I have to miss a meeting every once in awhile?
Most of our board members are unable to make every meeting. They are busy, active
people! However, we ask our members to attend as many meetings as possible and to
arrange their schedules so they can be there. As part of the governing board, you are
very important to us.
I am very interested in what Regenerated Hope does, but I don’t know a lot about
it. Will I get any information about the organization and about being a Board
Member?
Absolutely! We provide a basic orientation session for all new board members. In
addition, there is annual board training conducted by an excellent consultant. We also
give board members a manual with all of the important information they need to know
about the organization. Finally, board members are always welcome to call and make
an appointment with the Executive Director to go over any aspect of the organizations
operation.
Are the board meetings very formal?
Not at all. Meetings are important and the board members are there to conduct
business. However, they are also interesting and fun. The board members are very
professional but, at the same time, relaxed and casual.
The best way to see what we mean is for you to attend an Executive Board meeting.
You are invited to our next meeting to observe the board in action. Remember, the
meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month at 6:00pm. at the
Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 2922 MLK Jr Blvd, Bldg A #117, Dallas,
TX 75215. It would be a good idea if you called us the day before to be sure the
meeting has not been re-scheduled and to confirm the location. We would love to have
you visit us.
Whom should I call if I have more questions?
Please call Tracie Reed, Executive Director, 214-466-3365. Ms. Reed is very happy to
give you more information and share our mission and vision.
WE HAVE A GREAT ORGANIZATION, BUT THE MISSION AND VISION CAN ONLY
BE ACCOMPLISHED WITH THE PROPER LEADERSHIP. WE NEED YOU TO HELP
CONTINUE OUR IMPORTANT WORK. ASSISTING COMMUNITIES WITH THE
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TO SUCCEED IN EDUCATION AND CAREER IS THE
GREATEST MORAL AND ECONOMIC CHALLENGE OF OUR ERA!
