38th Annual South High Marathon Dance, 44 Beneficiaries
The South High Marathon Dance is a student run function that aims to raise money for individuals, families, and organizations
in need of financial assistance. With over 80% of the school’s population attending this two day event, the goal of the students
is to try to break last year’s record of raising over $583,000! The event has progressed from a small dance in the high school
gym to an event that brings the entire community together. In its 37 year history, the Marathon Dance has raised over 4.22
MILLION DOLLARS for more than 321 beneficiaries not just within South Glens Falls, but many surrounding communities
as well. After reviewing nearly 140 applications, the student committee has selected the following as beneficiaries of the 2015

The 2015 Marathon Dance will be held March 6 and 7 at the South Glens Falls Senior High School. Opening ceremonies will
begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. Community members can donate to the dance in a variety of ways. Each of the 800+
students participating is required to collect a minimum of $150. In addition to monies collected by the students, members of
the community and business owners can donate items to be auctioned during the dance itself.
Community Fundraising Events
There are a significant number of events held prior to the dance in which money is collected, and then donated to the Marathon
Dance. Nine (9) fundraising events have already taken place within our community, and at least thirty-eight (38) additional
events are scheduled to take place between January 16 and the weekend of the dance. For additional information regarding
these events, and to learn of new events as they are established, visit the SHMD website at www.shmd.org, Facebook page at
www.facebook.com/shmdlive, or Twitter @shmdnow. All fundraising activities are subject to approval by the South High
Marathon Dance Committee. If you find that an event is not posted here please contact us to verify its legitimacy.

Events and Fundraising at the Dance
Much of the money raised is collected at the dance itself. Kip Dare of Kipper’s Clippers is organizing the annual cut-a-thon
throughout the weekend. Marathon Dance apparel and photos taken at the dance are sold throughout the event, as well as
massages, hair wraps, face painting, and many others. The annual 50/50 raffle provides an opportunity to be one of the many to
win a $500 prize. The concession stand provides baked goods, beverages, and a variety of hot lunch and dinner items donated
by local businesses and individuals. The live and silent auctions also take place during the dance with a selection of items
donated by local businesses and individuals. The silent auction begins Friday evening and ends early Saturday evening,
followed by the live auction which begins at 6:00 p.m.
Visiting the Marathon Dance March 6 and 7
This event is open to the public, from 7:00 p.m. through 10:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6, and any time after 6:30 a.m. on
Saturday, March 7. Since the dance has grown immensely, only registered dancers, and others as indicated in the dance
schedule, are permitted on the dance floor. Additionally, seating is limited in the main gym where the dance takes place;
spectators may be directed to alternate viewing areas. To ensure event safety, backpacks and similar items are not permitted in
the building. Information regarding parking and shuttle busses will be posted as the dance approaches.
We hope that you will be able to partake in this wonderful event. It is a truly moving experience to witness a community that
comes together to help those in need. Please be sure to visit the Marathon Dance’s website at www.shmd.org, follow us on
Facebook www.facebook.com/shmdlive, or Twitter @shmdnow for additional information and to view the Marathon Dance
live the weekend of the event! We hope to see you the weekend of March 6!
