This cart will replace the COW cart of laptops that has been used for over eight years in the middle school. As you walk down our halls, you will see laptops in our building being used daily. Due to wear and tear/heavy use and technology advancing over the past 8 years, these units need to be replaced. Access to technology is certainly a “privilege”; however it has become a very helpful and sought after tool as student write, edit, revise; as work is differentiated for individual learners and as various programs and electronic portfolios are being used in class. After much consideration and research, we have decided that Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablets are the most economical and practical investment for our school. If you’d like to contribute to this project, we are working towards the final $5000 of our target. Contributions can be made at the Middle School office. Mohamed Assani “Mohamed Assani is a celebrated sitar player, known for his creative musical collaborations with artists of all genres. He has performed across the globe - including in the UK, Canada, USA & Dubai - with orchestras, string quartets, hip hop artists, DJs, world music ensembles, jazz artists, and Indian and Western classical artists—and, of course, solo. We are pleased to host him at MEI Middle School on Jan. 28th, 2015. According to Georgia Straight Newspaper, “Assani is both a musician who’s deeply rooted in the artistic traditions of South Asia and a one-of-a- kind innovator who’s bent on ensuring that those age-old forms will survive, and grow, in the modern era. His playing is fierce, resolute, and gripping. There’s no denying that this is extraordinary music.” Mohamed’s musical journey began at Dartington College of Arts in England, where he did a degree in Western Classical and World music. He then went on to learn sitar in the traditional way and is a senior disciple of Ustad Ashraf Sharif Khan of the Poonch Gharana. A dedicated and experienced teacher, Mohamed has inspired students of all ages in their musical journeys. During his extensive teaching career, he has taught at the Royal Academy of Music (London, England), the BRIT School of Performing Arts and the University of Huddersfield. He now teaches Indian Music at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music.” JANUARY ATHLETICS: BASKETBALL Our Gr. 8 Girls Basketball Team competed in the Seaquam Tournament on Jan. 9/10 and came home with the 1st Place Trophy by defeating Brookswood (Langley) in the final. We are thankful to have a Christian Registered Nurse teach these classes. Karen Chapman works at Abbotsford Hospital and is a TWU graduate. She specializes in Emergency Medicine and is married to Todd. They have three children. Karen has seen many sad situations go through Emergency and has a heart for prevention, rather than reaction. She does an amazing job of weaving a Christian worldview through her classes and her teaching and materials are solid. A permission letter has gone home by both email and hand-out. Please ensure that this form is returned to the homeform teacher. You are invited to a parent meeting on Tuesday Feb. 10th at 7 p.m. in Room 201. At that time, Karen will present an overview of the material she will be covering in each grade. Katelyn is extremely hard working and responsible. She always gives her very best in everything she does- whether it’s in the classroom, art room or in the gym. She’s not only responsible with her schoolwork- she is an amazingly compassionate girl. She has shown unconditional kindness and has demonstrated inclusiveness to new students and to those who struggle to fit in. Everyone likes to be around her and enjoys her company because she is non-judgmental and always caring. She also shows great faith in God, and she relies on Him and His wisdom in every difficult situation she faces. Her Christian testimony is practical and unwavering. Our Gr. 8 Boys Basketball Team hosted their own Invitational Tournament Jan. 9/10 and made it to the final, but lost a close game to Fleetwood Park.
