Thank You! Golden West 1055 Adams Circle Boulder, CO 80303-1820 Golden West Policy and Procedure Updates Emergency Response: Golden West is a non-medical community and we do not have nurses or doctors on duty and cannot provide any emergency medical assistance. We cannot take your blood pressure, temperature or any other vital signs. However, we do have staff on duty 24 hours a day that are available to help you contact emergency medical personnel if needed. If you are feeling ill and need immediate assistance, you may dial 0 on the phone in your apartment, or pull your pull cord, and the staff on duty will respond and help you get assistance. You may also call 911 directly. If you call 911 from your apartment phone, a 911 alert will show on the reception desk phone and the staff on duty will then try and contact you to see if you want our assistance. We do recommend that you notify staff as to the issue and then we will help make sure that emergency personnel can get into the building and your apartment, if needed, and we can provide a copy of the emergency information form we have on file for you. If staff cannot reach the resident by phone, staff will go to the apartment to see if our assistance is needed. You may also have an emergency alert pendant (such as Lifeline) that can be worn at all times and pressed if you need emergency assistance and cannot reach a pull cord or telephone. You may list Golden West as the first contact and if you do, the emergency pendant company will notify Golden West when your pendant is pressed and staff will respond to your apartment. If you list family or friends as the emergency contact, Golden West staff will not be aware of the emergency unless the Fire Department or Ambulance contacts staff for assistance to enter the building and/or apartment. It is Golden West’s policy to notify a resident’s emergency contacts after any incident or when we have concerns regarding a resident’s well-being or if there are lease violations. It is also our policy to contact 911 if staff feels the situation is a life or limb threatening situation. Individuals can always refuse the assistance of the paramedics and/or transport to the hospital. If you do have an emergency and are transported to the hospital, you will be added to our Out of Building Log. This log is checked prior to completing daily wellness checks and if someone is listed as out of the building, they will not be checked on. Please notify the reception desk when you return from being out of the building so that you will be included in the daily wellness check. Pet Policy: Please remember that all pet owners are expected to pick up after their pet. It is the pet owner’s responsibility to be prepared when they take their dog out and have a bag to pick up the waste. We do try and keep bags out in the garden area, but it is ultimately the pet owner’s responsibility to be prepared and to clean up after their pet. Pets are not allowed on the furnishings in public areas and cannot be brought to any events or activities in which Dining Services are providing refreshments as per Health Department regulations. Only service animals may be brought into the dining rooms. Pets are expected to be well-behaved and should not be making noise that disturbs others or acting aggressively towards other pets. Pet owners are expected to remain with their pet, keep the pet on a short lease and under control at all times when outside the apartment. Pets may not be tied up to furniture and left alone while the owner goes elsewhere in the building. Please leave your pet in the apartment if you are going into areas where the pet cannot accompany you, such as the dining room. All of the above are part of the pet policy and violation of the pet policy is considered a lease violation. For questions regarding G.W. policies and procedures, contact Donna Ruske at #1880. Guest Meal Tickets on Weekends: What do you do on weekends when you want to purchase a guest meal ticket and the desk is closed? Now, you can get a guest meal ticket in the pantry, but be aware, that the only way the pantry can do this is by charging it on your monthly rent statement. The resident must be in attendance to sign for this charge. Guests, family members, caregivers, etc cannot purchase a ticket and ask for it to be charged to a resident’s account. Get to Know Your Neighbors Barbara Lloyd: Barbara Lloyd lived in the Towers before returning recently to Golden West’s Mezzanine. Barbara has five grand-daughters and six children: four sons, two in Colorado, one in Kansas City, one in Portland; and two daughters, one in Denver, one in Virginia Beach. Barbara says with deserved pride, “Raising my children was my major accomplishment.” She was a single Mom after the birth of her youngest, and she recounts fighting in her divorce settlement to keep their family home and provide that security for her kids. Even though her income was limited because she insisted on being with her children until her youngest was in school, she enjoyed making memories of having fun and planning special holidays and short trips. Barbara joined the Navy after high-school and remembers the Navy as “a good time” that “just suited me.” She trained pilots to fly, using only instruments, as a training devices instructor, and she also enjoyed travelling as part of the “drill team.” Barbara married a Navy man, but after the birth of her first son, she had to resign according to the customs at that time. When Barbara returned to the workforce in 1977, she was in Employee Benefits at Rocky Flats until its closing. One of her tasks was visiting families after a death. Although this work could be difficult, Barbara says she “always felt like I was helping people.” Barbara describes herself as enjoying people; her family and varied work life seem to bear this out!
