Scholarship Bulletin
Saturday, January 31, 2015
With the cost of a college education escalating scholarships are more important than ever. Estimated
costs for a Wisconsin resident for the 2014-2015 academic year at UW-Madison are $24,466/year. (Tuition,
room and board, and fees.) Private colleges average $42,419. These price tags show a 3% increase in
cost over the past year and close to a 15% increase in cost over the past five years.
Of course, that’s not the total price. You still have to buy books and supplies, and do your laundry, and
pay for the occasional pizza.
Rising cost of a college education and the failure of federal grants to keep pace with the higher rates of
tuition has led to increasing student debt. The average debt of a graduating senior from a college in Wisconsin was $28,118. 70% of students had debt. Bottom line: College is expensive, and the price is increasing.
A scholarship is a way of helping pay the staggering costs today’s college students are experiencing. The Marshfield Area Community Foundation publicizes the scholarships we and others offer to ensure
that there is a good field of applicants and as a public service. That’s what the Community Foundation is all
about. Connecting people who care with causes that matter. We have published our scholarship Bulletin
for the past ten years to help scholarship seekers find the money that is being offered by local community
groups, individuals, foundations, and businesses. The Marshfield Area Community Foundation manages
over 50 scholarships itself.
We believe every high school student, every non-traditional student, should take advantage of the generosity our community offers
through these scholarships. These groups see giving scholarships as an investment in the future of our community. The families, individuals,
organizations, and businesses that sponsor these scholarships and are providing these opportunities should be very proud of the impact they
are making on the lives of Central Wisconsin students. We all can be thankful these people have decided to make a real difference in the
educational opportunities for the people who live here.
We have about 400 scholarships listed in this bulletin. We have scholarships listed for graduates of high schools in Auburndale, Abbotsford, Colby, Columbus Catholic High School, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marshfield High School, Neillsville, Pittsville, Spencer, and Stratford. In addition, a number of scholarships are offered to students at any of the area schools.
This bulletin is prepared with the help of guidance counselors and student service personnel throughout the area. This bulletin wouldn’t
be possible without their contributions. Good luck and best of luck with your future learning!

Scholarship Bulletin User’s Manual
About this Scholarship Bulletin: It’s not perfect.
There will be mistakes. There will be omissions. There will be
scholarships listed that are no longer available, or with the wrong
dollar amount, or the wrong due date. Some scholarships may
be listed with dates that have already passed.
The point is, although this Scholarship Bulletin is our best
effort to pull together all scholarships of interest to a wide area of
Central Wisconsin, it is still only a starting point. So keeping that
in mind, here are a few pointers:
If you are still in high school…
• Your Guidance Office is the best, most complete, most upto-date, and most accurate source of scholarship information
available to you. Go there. Use it.
• The listing for your high school isn’t the only part of the
Bulletin that has scholarships you can apply for. The first three
sections, those of the Marshfield Area Community Foundation,
the UW Marshfield/Wood County Foundation, and the Mid-State
Technical College Foundation, all list scholarships that may be
applicable to you. Check them out.
• The last section…Additional Scholarship Opportunities…
lists scholarships that may be relevant to several or all of the
participating high schools.
• There are many, many more scholarships that aren’t
listed at all. Some the schools didn’t even know about when
they submitted their lists. Others are offered by colleges and
universities out of the area. Always check out the Financial Aid
office of the school you plan to attend.
• Use the Internet. Many of the participating schools do a great
job of listing scholarships on-line along with application forms.
We listed a few additional on-line sources at the very end of the
Bulletin. No doubt, there are many more.
If you are already in college or are renewing your
education…
As a continuing student or non-traditional student, your task
may be either easier or harder. In either case, your starting point is
probably the Financial Aid or Student Services office of the institution
you will attend. As far as this bulletin goes, most of the non-traditional
opportunities are listed in the three Foundation sections. Of course,
if you are currently in the work force and are going back to school,
maybe your employer has a program to help you.
And finally, if you, your family, your club, your organization,
your church, your business offer a scholarship and it’s
not included here… call the Marshfield Area Community
Foundation and let us know so we can add it to the list next
year.

Why does the
Marshfield Area
Community Foundation
publish this bulletin?
The mission of the Marshfield Area Community
Foundation is “Connecting people who care with
causes that matter to enrich the quality of life in the
Marshfield area.” Education is a cause that matters
to all of us. The Community Foundation is proud to
count 52 scholarship funds among more than 130
funds entrusted to the Foundation.
But this bulletin doesn’t stop with our own scholarships. Altogether it lists scholarships available
to students from 14 schools in our area as well as
many other local organizations scholarships. Why
do we do this? Why do we take the time and energy
to pull all this together?
Because we believe this is the kind of community
service the Marshfield Area Community Foundation is uniquely able to provide. We believe we are
enriching the quality of life in the Marshfield area
when we help lead students to the financial support
that will enable them to achieve an education. We
believe the students benefit, their families benefit,
and the community benefits. We are glad to do it.

We aren’t making any money at this. Nobody pays
to have scholarships listed. Fortunately, we have a
lot of very generous businesses that buy ads that
pay for the Bulletin. We are very thankful for their
support and for the professional work done by the

But we do spend a lot of time on this. Time costs

If you are able to support our efforts, it would be
