It has been a busy year for us as we launched our year-round programme of events which included Goblin playing live to the iconic horror delight ‘Suspira’, a day of screenings commemorating the 30th anniversary of the miners’ strikes and DJ Yoda playing live to a medley of Sci-Fi films. 2 We have spent a long time programming the second film festival and we hope you find something you enjoy. We are delighted to welcome back british sea Power to perform their beautiful score to ‘man of aran’ along with asian dub Foundation who will play live to a 20th anniversary screening of la Haine. We are also delighted and privileged to be able to host a regional gala of ‘the second best exotic marigold Hotel’, which we’re sure you’ll enjoy. We’ve also extended the festival to five days and included a new location; the cinema bus at Ilkley Lido which is a unique and innovative way to experience film. The Playhouse is located near the river and within Weston Road, the venue is a 140 seater multi-purpose theatre which will be converted into a cinema for the festival. Food and drink will be available to purchase prior to and after each event. Our newest venue is the cinema coach which will be located within the Ilkley Lido car park. The coach will be stationary for the three days (Friday - Sunday) but can comfortably seat 100 people. It tells the tale of a nightclub based movement which developed in Northern England. The film is an authentic and uplifting account of two young boys whose horizons are opened up by the discovery of black American soul music. No longer satisfied with the prospect of a small town life and a factory production line, they dream of going to America to discover super rare records which will help them become the best DJs on the Northern Soul scene. A young and talented drummer attending a prestigious music academy finds himself under the wing of the most respected professor at the school. Come and celebrate the 20th Anniversary of this iconic film by witnessing Asian Dub Foundation perform their beautiful live score within the grand location of the King’s Hall. If you have aspirations to create your own film, come along and see what £8,000 and a bucket load of passion gets you with Harry Macqueen’s debut film; a tender and honest exploration of love and change. Harry will be in attendance to take part in a post-screening Q&A. For the very first time, hugely influential artist David Hockey has opened up his personal archive of photographs and film. The result is an extraordinary account of this charismatic and unconventional figure’s life and career. It traces Hockney’s journey from his working class origins in Bradford to Hollywood. However, he soon finds out that his department is being downsized and that this could be his last case. Pigeon follows Sam and Jonathan, two travelling salesmen peddling novelty items, as they take us on a kaleidoscopic wandering through human destinies. A trip that shows us the beauty of single moments – a stunning film. A jaded Japanese woman discovers a hidden copy of Fargo on VHS, believing it to be a treasure map indicating the location of a large case of money. Kumiko is somehow convinced that this treasure is real, and obsesses over its discovery. A truly stunning film. The Tribe is set in a boarding school for young deaf people, where new arrival Sergey (Fesenko) is drawn into an institutional system of organised crime, involving robbery and prostitution.
