Welcome to tHe second ilKley Film Festival
We were overwhelmed with the response of
our first festival as over 3500 of you attended
a festival event; thank you so much for your
support. It has been a busy year for us as we
launched our year-round programme of events
which included Goblin playing live to the iconic
horror delight ‘Suspira’, a day of screenings
commemorating the 30th anniversary of the
miners’ strikes and DJ Yoda playing live to a
medley of Sci-Fi films.
2
We have spent a long time programming the second film
festival and we hope you find something you enjoy. We are
delighted to welcome back british sea Power to perform
their beautiful score to ‘man of aran’ along with asian dub
Foundation who will play live to a 20th anniversary screening
of la Haine. We are also delighted and privileged to be
able to host a regional gala of ‘the second best exotic
marigold Hotel’, which we’re sure you’ll enjoy.
We’ve also extended the festival to five days and included
a new location; the cinema bus at Ilkley Lido which is a
unique and innovative way to experience film. We hope you
find something of interest within our programme of films and
events and that you have a fun filled weekend of film.

Director: Alan Rickman

Come and witness our superb opening gala,
‘A Little Chaos’. Madame Sabine De Barra
(Kate Winslet) is an unlikely candidate for
landscape architect of the still‐to-be-completed
Palace of Versailles. She has little time for the
classical, ordered designs of the man who hires
her, the famous architect Le Nôtre (Matthias
Schoenaerts). However, as she works on her
creation, she finds herself drawn to the enigmatic
Le Nôtre and forced to negotiate the perilous

rivalries and intricate etiquette of the court of King
Louis XIV (Alan Rickman). But Sabine is made
of strong stuff; her honesty and compassion
help her to overcome both the challenges of
her newfound popularity, and an unspeakable
tragedy from her past, to win the favour of the
Sun King and the heart of Le Nôtre. It received
rave reviews at London Film Festival and we are
thrilled to be able to bring it to Ilkley.

We have good reason to believe this will be
nominated for a lot of awards this year, this is
your opportunity to see what the fuss is all about.
Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard
Linklater’s BOYHOOD is a groundbreaking story
of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child
named Mason.
When tween trumpet-player Lili has to stay with
her dad for a few days, he is not interested in
taking care of her pet dog Hagen and in a fit of
irritation leaves it by the side of the road. Bad
idea. This sets off events that lead to a full-scale
canine uprising in a film that blends a coming-ofage narrative, political allegory and revenge.
Laila, a girl on the run from her family is hiding out
in West Yorkshire with her drifter boyfriend Aaron.
When her brother arrives in town with a gang of
thugs in tow, she is forced to flee for her life and
