Atalanta Miss winning in Adelaide
Aa
It is hard to believe we are well in to February and that we are only a month from the Adelaide Magic
Millions Sale where we have had good success in recent years buying Unique, Husson Eagle,
Rumeron and Atalanta Miss. In fact we have purchased six yearlings at the past three sales with all
six winning.
A
Next Wednesday Night is Magic Millions night in Launceston and we will be represented by Atalanta
Miss in the Two Year Old Classic and Rumeron in the Three Year Old Classic. I expect both to run
very well.
Page 1
Our company is not renowned for punching out our 2 year olds but having written that we do get our
fair share of juvenile winners. On Monday we stepped out Bridie’s Brook, a Hinchinbrook filly I
purchased as a weanling from Yarraman Park at the Randwick barrier trials and she was very
impressive running a strong finishing second in a good trial. She may well head to the races in the
next two weeks so keep an eye out for her.
KRIS LEES
Kris Lees has really started to cement his position as one of Australia’s very best trainers. In the next
moth he has some very high profile runners and I’m sure you all wish him well with these. I have
been completely satisfied with the results Kris has achieved for us since we started together back in
November 2005. He is the complete trainer and can train any type of horse whether it be a precocious
two year old or Group 1 staying horse.
His decision to purchase Ellalong Farm a few years ago was a ripper.
I was approached at the Magic Millions to see if I would support a well-known Sydney female trainer
but was happy to reject the offer. I couldn’t be happier with the job Kris, John Thompson and Tony
McEvoy are doing for us with our NSW based horses.
ON THE TRACK
This spotlight for us is on Tasmania in the coming week with Awasita, Atalanta Miss, Pitt Street,
Rumeron, Hot To Trot, Hail Maher and Princess Royale running.
INGLIS CLASSIC AND TASMANIAN MAGIC MILLIONS SALES
The Inglis Classic Sale gets under way this weekend. I found a couple of nice fillies during my
inspections earlier in the week and will post any horses I purchase on the website.
I’m very happy where I am at with our yearling purchases with 13 already on our books and most of
these almost fully subscribed.
I will be attending the Tasmanian Magic Millions Sale on 12 February in Launceston.

MAGIC MILLIONS LOT 426 HINCHINBROOK / MARITESS FILLY
JOHN MOLONEY TO TRAIN AT CAULFIELD
FOUR SHARES REMAIN
The filly
This filly is a strong well balanced athlete that gets around well and has a nice presence to
her. She is very strong behind and through the hocks. She has a deep girth and looks like she
may go early as her dam did.
She vetted out without any issues and was reared at Milburn Creek one of the NSW’s most
well respected boutique nurseries.
The filly is a September foal and I have decided to pay her up for the rich Adelaide Magic
Millions Two Year Old Classic.
To date the best horse to race by Hinchinbrook is Carriages with his two winners being
fillies.
The filly went to Yarraman Park after the sale for a break with Harry Mitchell calling
Page 3
me to say she was ‘one of the best buys of the Magic Millions Sale’.
Hinchinbrook
Hinchinbrook was a high class juvenile winning the Group III AJC Skyline Stakes and Listed
Canonbury Stakes before being the first colt home when fourth to Crystal Lily in the Group I
STC Golden Slipper and was then third in the Group I AJC Sires Produce Stakes.
He trained on at three for Group I placings in the AJC All Aged Stakes, MRC Oakleigh Plate
and MVRC William Reid Stakes, before being injured in the UK while preparing for Royal
Ascot and retiring with earnings in excess of $590,000.
He is a three-quarter brother to leading young sire Snitzel and Group III winner Viennese by
champion sire Fastnet Rock from stakes-winning sprinter Snippets’ Lass.
His progeny have hit the ground running with him being placed 2nd on the First Season Sire’s
List in Australia and was the only First Season Sire to have a runner in the $2 million Magic
Millions Classic on the Gold Coast where he was represented by the early favourite
Carriages.
Maritess
Maritess was a fast Magic Albert stakes placed winner of two, two year old races.
Maritess is a ½ sister to the Group 3 and multiple stakes winner Come Fly With Me.
Maritess has had three foals to race for two winners. The 3rd dam is the outstanding Group 1
wining mare Dinky Flyer.
It is only early days for Magic Albert as a broodmare sire but he is having good success
crossing with Danehill line mares.

Hinchinbrook Filly Favourite for Magic Millions
Tara Madgwick - Tuesday, 25 November 2014
Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse has an early stranglehold on the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic
according to corporate bookie Sportsbet with her Hinchinbrook filly Carriages the early favourite.
Waterhouse trains three of the top four at the head of the Sportsbet all-in market for the juvenile feature
with the only other horse, Prompt Return an unlikely runner.
"Gai is a powerhouse when it comes to two-year-olds and she looks to have at least three quality juveniles
in the camp," Sportsbet's Will Byrne said.
Page 4
Waterhouse's Clockwise Classic winner Carriages heads betting at $5 ahead of the Breeders Plate winner
Vancouver (Medaglia D'Oro (USA), impressive recent barrier trial winner Ready Already (More Than
Ready USA) and Prompt Return (Beneteau) at $6.
MAGIC MILLION LOT 301 HUSSON/ HEAD OVER HEELS FILLY
TONY GOLLAN TO TRAIN AT EAGLE FARM
FOUR SHARES REMAIN
The filly
This is an outstanding type of filly representing one of the very best crosses in Australia at
present. The filly vetted out without any issues and was highly regarded as a type by both
Bill Mitchell and our vet Tim Roberts. I am thrilled to have secured her and look forward to
her getting to the races. She is a cracker of a filly and looks a two year old type to me.
Husson
The filly is by Hussonet’s best son at stud in Husson and is a product of one the most potent
crosses in Australia today. When Hussonet and now his sons are put over Danehill line
mares the results have been amazing.
Danehill line mares mated with Husson have the stakes horses Hussousa, Affable, Will
Be Amazed, Sister Souss, Peron, Hi Son, Star Of Husson and Little Miss Smiley. There
is also a filly Go Again which held the 900m record at Sandown out of a Danehill
Page 5
Dancer mare.
Husson's sire Hussonet also has similar success with the Group 1 winners Reaan, Eagle Falls,
Gold Trail and Group and stakes winners Colorado Claire, Miss Darcey, Step it Up,
Karacatis, Latin News, Members Joy, Rose Of Peace, Werd, Hussy By Choice, Walk With
Attitude, Dirty and Moonlight Hussler coming out of Danehill or his son's daughters.
It should be remember Hussonet came to Australia as a relatively old horse with his
first crop of yearlings in Australia being born in 2004. His first crop in Chile was
dropped in 1995. He is a super stallion and was brought to Australia by John Messara
to be used as a suitable cross with the large number of Danehill line mares in this
country.
Once again Messara was right on the money!!!
I have a very good filly with Tony Gollan named Hijack Hussy by Hussonet out of a
Redoute's Choice mare. She won the Listed Lexus Plate at Flemington on Melbourne Cup
Day. The only other Hussonet filly I purchased was the stakes winner Huiskes.
Head Over Heels
Head Over Heels is by the great sire Fastnet Rock which has worked so well with Husson
with three of his twelve winners to date from this cross of Husson over Fastnet Rock
mares. This includes the stakes filly Little Miss Smiley. Head Over Heels brings a lot to the
table here being a half-sister to the very good sprinter, Presently as well as Another Time
which was placed in the Black Opal Stakes.
It is very early days for Fastnet Rock as a broodmare sire. It is hard to imagine Fastnet
Rock not being a successful broodmare sire.
Her half-sister Gifted Lass is the dam of the Group 2 placed Serena Miss. Head Over Heels
is out of the Centaine mare Centaine’s Gift. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Apache Cat Lookalike Headed to Hong Kong
Breednet - Media Release - Friday, 28 November 2014
Eye-catching Husson (Chi) gelding Looks Like The Cat has been sold to Hong Kong and will do his
future racing under the care of leading local trainer Casper Fownes.
The flashy chestnut gelding has so far raced 7 times for a 2YO win in Brisbane as well as second placing’s
in the Group 2 VRC Danehill Stakes, BRC Champagne Classic and Group 3 MRC Caufield Guineas
Prelude.
The Tony Gollan trained 3YO was also third in the Group 1 BRC JJ Atkins Stakes and Group 2 BRC
Sires' Produce Stakes.
Schmidt, who sold Looks Like The Cat for $175,000 prior to his first start only for the deal to fall through,
did not reveal how much the Husson gelding was sold for but said the offer "was too good to refuse".
Gollan has trained Group 1 winners Spirit Of Boom and Temple Of Boom but said Looks Like The Cat
was potentially the best horse he has put a saddle on.
"It is disappointing to lose a horse of his calibre but I respect the owner’s decision," Gollan said.
"There had been a fair few offers on the table at the conclusion of the Brisbane winter carnival but they
were knocked back.
"They came again at the end of his spring campaign and his owners sat down and had a long think about it
before deciding to take the bird in the hand rather than chasing two in the bush.
"It is hard to compete against the money that is being offered, it is easy to see why owners would look to
cash in their chips."
Page 7
The Husson gelding leaves Australia with only one win next to his name from seven starts but he has
notched five Group placing’s already.
MAGIC MILLIONS LOT 828 I AM INVINCIBLE OUT OF NICE SURPRISE (NZ)
10 SHARES @ $17,800 (ONLY ONE REMAINS)
KRIS LEES TO TRAIN
The filly
The filly pictured above is a cracking filly by the outstanding young sire I Am Invincible. She is very
athletic and caught my eye when I was doing my pre-sale inspections at Yarraman Park in early
December. She has a touch of class and when she grows into her frame will be quite a strong girl.
She has a great temperament which was highlighted by her excellent attitude at the Magic Millions
Sale where she was paraded many times in a tough week with oppressive weather making conditions
difficult.
Page 8
I love the quality I Am Invincible puts into his stock. When you walk into a paddock of weanlings or
yearlings they stand out. Good heads, athletic, great coats and almost without exception a keen
healthy eye.
This filly has it all. She will be broken in in late February and then have a break before heading to
Kris Lees for her first preparation. She has done very well since we purchased her and is back at
Yarraman Park for a break before heading to the breakers.
I Am Invincible
I Am Invincible was Australia’s Leading First season Sire in 2013/14 Season by both stakes money
and individual winners. In fact in his first season he gapped the opposition with as many winners as
the next three sires on the list. See table below:
His progeny have proved he was no flash in the pan coming out in their three year old year being
more dominant than in the first season. This season he has had 30 individual winners from 63 to hit
the track. He only trails Fastnet Rock as the leading sire of three year old winners in Australia this
season.
I Am invincible had his service fee raised to $27,500 last breeding season and was fully booked out in
a matter of days and Yarraman Park have already had requests for 200 mares for the stallion in the
coming season.
I am thrilled to have this filly join our team and look forward to her wearing our colours.
Nice Surprise (NZ)
Nice Surprise is a Sydney Metropolitan winner and was Stakes Placed in the PJ Bell Stakes at Royal
Randwick. She has a good pedigree being by Champion Miler Spinning World. Spinning World has
been a success as a broodmare sire with 31 stakes winners to his credit including three Group 1
winners.
The best known to race out of his daughters in Australia include Miss Stellabelle, Mouro, So Pristine
and Little Surfer Girl.
Page 9
Nice Surprise has had just the one to race Gelato, the winner of four races.

Invincible Draft for Magic Millions
Tara Madgwick - Tuesday, 16 December 2014
It's two years since Yarraman Park launched young stallion I Am Invincible at the 2013 Magic
Millions Yearling Sale and while good judges were keen to praise his offspring back then, few
would have predicted the overwhelming success that has followed.
I Am Invincible
At the Gold Coast in 2013, I Am Invincible had nine yearlings average $81,667 with a top price of
$160,000 and in 2014 had seven average $240,000 with a top price of $440,000 and a further
eight youngsters selling in Session Five at an average $80,875.
Dramatic price rises such as these don't come by chance, they are driven by demand fuelled by
results and results are what I Am Invincible has delivered in spades for his supporters.
The Champion Australian First Season Sire of 2013/2014 by winners, earnings and stakeswinners, I Am Invincible is powering ahead again this year, leading the Australian Second
Season Sires List with 26 winners of $1.2 million in earnings.
He is also second only to champion sire Fastnet Rock on the Leading Australian Sires of Three
Year Olds List by winners.
Page
10
Among those winners is star colt Brazen Beau, who won the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes
and was recently bought by Darley to stand at their Victorian base when his racing career
concludes next year.
"It's very satisfying to come to this sale with the bulk of your draft sired by your own stallions,"
said Harry Mitchell.
"I Am Invincible has done exceptionally well as everyone knows and we are thrilled with the way
Hinchinbrook has started off.
"He's getting them to the track and is already one of the leading first season sires with a serious
Magic Millions contender in Carriages."

TVN vs SKY CHANNEL
If you can work out what is going on in the battle between Racing NSW and Racing Victoria over
television rights and where TVN sits then you are in a better position than me. My ‘mail’ is that TVN
as we know it will close down by the end of February.
This column written by Patrick Bartley appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald on 1 February.
Makes interesting reading!!!
Racing powerbrokers want
administrator or auditor in TVN
network

Patrick Bartley
Racing writer for The Age
Some of Victoria's racing powerbrokers are still urging that an administrator or an auditor be placed
into the beleaguered TVN network following its years of huge financial wastage.
With tens of millions of dollars already wasted during the network's time, senior officials believe that
an administrator or an auditor will finally disclose the damage the racing broadcaster has caused.
While NSW and Victoria have decided to part company, the latter still remains searching for a
suitable broadcaster of the Victorian racing pictures.
Just last week Fairfax Media revealed that the industry-owned broadcaster had not lodged a financial
report since October 2012, when Harold Mitchell was still the chairman.
TVN reported a profit of $4.6 million for the year to June 30, but the audit report from Deloittes did
note a "material uncertainty regarding continuation as a going concern".
The main concern was that the company's current liabilities exceeded its assets by $13.3 million as of
June 30, 2012.
Page
12
The current liabilities included $17 million worth of media rights it owed its shareholders and racing
club members from 2007-08 that was "at call".
NSW managed to broker a deal on all levels including digital with Tabcorp after just two weeks of
talks, something the Victorian race clubs could not achieve in two years.
Known now in sporting circles as "the dad's army" of negotiators, it's believed they are still hopeful of
an alternative deal with Channel Seven and Foxtel.
However, Fairfax Media understands that the chances are now remote that any suitor outside of Sky
Channel will be found.
As one senior executive said on Sunday: "This mob negotiating on behalf of Victoria can't get along
with NSW let alone themselves when it comes to making decisions. We've got to see exactly how
much wastage was caused. How disadvantaged are we going to be going forward. And Racing
Victoria don't even have the rights, so it's the clubs that will have to find the money."
In one of the most amazing deals, Channel Seven broadcast on 28 race meetings for more than $2
million a year, a contract that will last another five years, with NSW and Victoria consenting to
honour the contract by contributing $1 million a year.
Fairfax Media also understands that only three of the TVN on-air personalities – Jason Richardson,
Michael Sharkie and Sydney journalist Brent Zerafa, who is also the editor of the associate website
racing network – are the only ones under consideration by Sky Channel.
It is understood an administrator would be able to decipher the contracts made during the final years
of TVN's existence.
"What we want to see is how much money will have to be paid out with staff already on exorbitant
money and then do they have long contracts going forward that these clubs will have to honour?" the
executive said.
"I think we are entitled as an industry to see where all of these millions and millions of dollars have
gone," he said.
Fairfax Media can also reveal that the newly elected state government is taking a dim view of the
TVN train wreck and the enormous amounts of money that have been lost to racing.
The government is bemused that the vision and media rights are held by Country Racing Victoria,
Melbourne Racing Club, Moonee Valley Racing Club and the VRC.
Privately it sees not only the performance of the four in failing the industry but also believes it could
be the reason that a racing commission is created in Victoria.
Racing Victoria does not have any rights for vision and media, but the government has been
impressed by its handling of the cobalt issue over the past three weeks.
It's believed that some of the state-of-the-art trucks used by TRP, the production arm of TVN, may
well be kept back from a fire sale of assets to be used by racing.com.
One of the key negotiators with the four clubs is former AFL staffer Andrew Catteral.
Fairfax Media has learnt that Tabcorp is prepared to talk to the Victorian group. However, it appears
that alternative suitors are being sought.
Just last week NSW signed a 10-year deal with Tabcorp and Sky Channel but as yet there is no
movement on the Victorian situation.
Page
13
It's also understood that the final broadcast date will be at the end of February, shortly after the
running of the Blue Diamond Stakes meeting staged by the Melbourne Racing Club.
It could be a telling few months if Racing Victoria is not given the vision rights for this state's racing.
Fairfax understands that if the vision and media rights are not turned over to Racing Victoria, the
principal body of racing in this state, it could well be a trigger for the state government to hold its own
inquiry into the financial ruin of TVN over the past decade.
