CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
In the name of the Father,
and of the + Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Let us come before God, confessing our sin.
Holy and merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned
against our sisters and brothers
and against you.
We cherish the values of this world.
We cause others to stumble.
The earth is wounded by our excess.
Have mercy, O God.
Forgive us, renew us,
and raise us up on eagles' wings,
that we may do your will
with courage and delight. Amen.
Hear the voice from heaven:
"You are my own, my beloved."
God gives power to the weary
and strengthens the powerless.
Be cleansed, be healed,
for in the name of + Jesus Christ,
I declare to you the forgiveness of your sins
and the revealing of God's reign.
Amen.
GREETING
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Everlasting God,
you give strength to the weak and power to the faint.
Make us agents of your healing and wholeness,
that your good news may be made known to the ends of your creation,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.

Oh, Sing to the Lord
Oh, sing to the Lord, Oh, sing God a new song,
Oh, sing to the Lord, Oh, sing God a new song
Oh, sing to the Lord, Oh, sing God a new song,
Oh, sing to our God, Oh, sing to our God.
For God is the Lord, and God has done wonders…
So dance for our God and blow all the trumpets…
Oh, shout to our God, who gave us the Spirit….

A WORD FOR THE CHILDREN
FIRST READING: Isaiah 40:21-31
21
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22
It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,
and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;
who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
and spreads them like a tent to live in;
23
who brings princes to naught,
and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing.
24
Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown,
scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth,
when he blows upon them, and they wither,
and the tempest carries them off like stubble.
25
To whom then will you compare me,
or who is my equal? says the Holy One.
26
Lift up your eyes on high and see:
Who created these?
He who brings out their host and numbers them,
calling them all by name;
because he is great in strength,
mighty in power,
not one is missing.
27
Why do you say, O Jacob,
and speak, O Israel,
"My way is hidden from the LORD,
and my right is disregarded by my God"?
28
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
29
He gives power to the faint,
and strengthens the powerless.
30
Even youths will faint and be weary,
and the young will fall exhausted;
31
but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
SECOND READING: 1 Corinthians 9:16-23
16
If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and woe to me if I
do not proclaim the gospel! 17For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am
entrusted with a commission. 18What then is my reward? Just this: that in my proclamation I may make the gospel
free of charge, so as not to make full use of my rights in the gospel.
19
For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I might win more of them. 20To
the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though I
myself am not under the law) so that I might win those under the law. 21To those outside the law I became as one
outside the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law) so that I might win those outside
the law. 22To the weak I became weak, so that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I
might by all means save some. 23I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
All are invited
to sing.
GOSPEL: Mark 1:29-39
The holy gospel according to the first chapter of Mark.
Glory to you, O Lord.
9
As soon as they left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30Now
Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. 31He came and took her by the
hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them.
32
That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33And the whole
city was gathered around the door. 34And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many
demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.
35
In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.
36
And Simon and his companions hunted for him. 37When they found him, they said to him, "Everyone is
searching for you." 38He answered, "Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message
there also; for that is what I came out to do." 39And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their
synagogues and casting out demons.
The gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON
HYMN OF THE DAY ELW 787
Pastor Phyllis Milton
APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION
Called to know, love, and follow you, O God, we pray for the church, the world, and all in need.
Everlasting God, deepen your church's commitment to proclaiming the gospel, that many will hear, respond, and
share in its blessings. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Creator of earth's foundations, restore lands, forests, and oceans recovering from natural disasters. Protect and
preserve all animals and humans who live in these places. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Everlasting God, rule over the nations and guide their paths toward the fulfillment of your purpose, nurturing the
common good, protecting the weak, providing justice, and caring for the needy. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Strength of the powerless, lift up the weary and wounded, give endurance to those whose struggle is unrelenting,
heal the sick, and relieve the pain of those who suffer. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Searching God, expand the welcome and witness of this congregation's outreach ministries. We pray for all those
served by these ministries, and for all visiting with us today. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Unsearchable God, you are always more than we can understand or imagine. Guide us to follow in faith where the
saints have led until we join them at your throne. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Trusting your love and healing, O God, we commend to you all for whom we pray, knowing you will hear and
answer, through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
SHARING OF THE PEACE
The peace of Christ be with you always.
And also with you.

OFFERING PRAYER
Let us pray.
Merciful God, as grains of wheat scattered upon the hills
were gathered together to become one bread,
so let your church be gathered together
from the ends of the earth into your kingdom,
for yours is the glory through Jesus Christ, now and forever.
Amen.

As the Grains of Wheat
DIALOGUE
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
PREFACE
It is indeed right, our duty and our joy,
that we should at all times and in all places
give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God,
through our Savior Jesus Christ.
who on this day overcame death and the grave,
and by his glorious resurrection
opened to us the way of everlasting life.
And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church
on earth and the hosts of heaven,
we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE
Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal:
you we praise and glorify, you we worship and adore.
You formed the earth from chaos;
you encircled the globe with air;
you created fire for warmth and light;
you nourish the lands with water.
You molded us in your image,
and with mercy higher than the mountains,
with grace deeper than the seas,
you blessed the Israelites and cherished them as your own.
That also we, estranged and dying,
might be adopted to live in your Spirit,
you called to us through the life and death of Jesus.
In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Together as the body of Christ,
we proclaim the Lord's death until he comes:
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
COMMUNION

offers us his gifts of love and forgiveness are welcome at the Lord’s Table.

LAMB OF GOD
COMMUNION MUSIC
Youth Choir (11:00)
Andrae Crouch Medley
The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power
The blood that Jesus shed for me ‘way back on Calvary,
The blood that gives me strength from day to day;
It will never lose its power.
It reaches to the highest mountain;
It flows to the lowest valley,
The blood that gives me strength from day to day;
It will never lose its power.
My Tribute
How can I say thanks for the things You have done for me?
Things so undeserved, yet You give to prove Your love for me,
The voices of a million angels could not express my gratitude;
All that I am and ever hope to be, I owe it all to Thee.
To God be the glory; To God be the glory.
To God be the glory for the things He has done.
With His blood He has saved me,
With His power He has raised me,
To God be the glory for the things He has done.
Through It All
I’ve had many fears and sorrows, I’ve had questions for tomorrow,
There’ve been times I didn’t know right from wrong;
But in every situation God gave blessed consolation,
That my trials come to only make me strong.
Through it all, through it all,
I’ve learned to trust in Jesus,
I’ve learned to trust in God;
Through it all, through it all;
I’ve learned to depend upon His word.
Jesus is the Answer
Jesus is the answer for the world today
Above Him there’s no other, Jesus is the way.
Jesus is the answer for the world today
Above Him there’s no other, Jesus is the way.
If you have some questions in the corners of your mind,
Traces of discouragement and peace you cannot find;
Reflections of your past seem to face you every day,
But this one thing I do know: Jesus is the way.
Jesus is the answer…
Bless His Holy Name
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me,
Bless His holy name.
He has done great things,
He has done great things,
He has done great things,
Bless His holy name.
Bless the Lord….
Soon and Very Soon
Soon and very soon, we are goin’ to see the King.
Soon and very soon, we are goin’ to see the King.
Soon and very soon, we are goin’ to see the King.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, we’re goin’ to see the King.

week, memory verse, light snack every Sunday except for the third
Sunday and ending with blessing/prayer/visiting.
CHILDREN—The first Sunday of each month we stress the lesson.
On the second Sunday we review the lesson and complete a craft
related to the lesson. On the third Sunday we continue to review the
lesson and prepare a food item related to the lesson. On the fourth
Sunday we continue to study the lesson through art and games and
each student is given the opportunity to say the memory verse for the
month and choose a small prize. On the fifth Sunday we continue to
review the lesson and show a movie related to the lesson.
The theme for Sunday School for the month of February is
“Speaking with Power.” Jesus proclaims good news, even
when it leads to conflict. Jesus speaks with compassion and
power, healing a troubled man in the synagogue. Bystanders angrily
challenge his demonstration of authority. Throughout our lives, we all
struggle with authority (parental, school, friends, church, adults). We
will learn about acceptance and celebration of God’s authority in our
lives. Our Bible lessons come from Mark 1:21-28.
9:30 AM – Children ages 3 years old through 5th grade will process
from the Nave after the Children’s Sermon.
The memory verse for February comes from Mark 1:27:
3 years through Pre-K – “Listen to Jesus.”
1st grade – 5th – “Listen to Jesus, He teaches with authority – God’s
power is within him.”
11:00 AM – Children ages 3 years old through 5th grade will process
from the Nave after the Children’s Sermon. Youth ages 6th grade
through 8th grade are welcome to process out with the younger
children to help teach the lesson.
During the time your children are in the classrooms we will follow the
following schedule: Prayer/offering/attendance, music, activity for the
The closing prayer for the month: Thank you, God, for giving us
the authority, or power, to do good things in your name. Help us to
believe you are with us, during troubled times and always. Amen.
