• Colin Newell, 25, of 38
Romeyn Ave., was charged
Jan. 22 with third-degree
aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and
driving with a suspended registration following a vehicle
stop on Locust Avenue. He
was released on traffic tickets
and is to appear in city court.
• Jeffrey Raiano, 40, of 7
Academy St., was charged
Jan. 22 with driving with a
suspended registration following a vehicle stop on Thomas
Street. He was released on a
traffic ticket to appear in city
court.
• Jacob Yowell, 19, of 16
Vanderveer St., was charged
Jan. 23 with driving on suspended registration following
a vehicle stop on Storrie
Street. He was released on
traffic tickets to appear in city
court.
• James Orapello, 30, of 146
Hoesville Road, Broadalbin,
was charged Jan. 23 with failure to appear on an outstanding bench warrant from city
court. He was held for
arraignment.
• Richard Quinones, 32, of
63 Wilson Ave., was charged
Jan. 23 with third-degree
aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and
failure to appear on a bench
warrant from Rotterdam
Police Department. He was
released on a traffic ticket to
appear in city court and was
turned over to Rotterdam
Police to answer the warrant.
• Elijah Graham, 24, of 31
First St., was charged Jan. 24
with third-degree aggravated
unlicensed operation of a
motor vehicle following a
vehicle stop on Vanderveer
Street. He was released on
$100 cash bail to appear in
city court.
• Corey Sumpter, 23, of 13
Trinity Place, was charged
Jan. 24 with second-degree
assault for striking a police
officer as well as resisting
arrest and obstructing government administration.
Officers responded to a burglary in process and the
sound of breaking glass.
Upon arrival, they said they
saw Sumpter in the hallway.
After repeated commands to
exit the porch area, he
became combative, fought
with police, and was placed
under arrest, according to the
report. He was held for
arraignment.
• Tiffany Torres, 21, of 156
Division St., was charged
Sunday with failure to appear
on an outstanding bench warrant. She was also charged
with petit larceny stemming
from a shoplifting incident that
occurred Nov. 25 in which
she allegedly stole a bottle of
Firefly Rum. She was held for
arraignment on both charges.
• Daniel Giardono, 55, of 26
Shirley Drive, Schenectady,
was charged Monday with
driving with a suspended registration following a vehicle

City man jailed on child porn charges
An Amsterdam man was arrested
Wednesday and charged with possession
of child pornography files on his computer
following an investigation by the U.S
Department of Homeland Security and
the Amsterdam Police Department.
James J. Cooper, 51, of McCleary Ave.,
was charged with four counts of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a
COOPER
child, class E felonies.
Detective Lt. Kurt Conroy said several digital files were
located on a seized computer depicting obscene sexual
performances by children less than 16 years of age.
Cooper was arraigned in city court and remanded to the
Montgomery County jail.
Fraud, larceny, mischief reported
The Amsterdam Police Department is investigating a
fraud complaint made by a Forest Avenue business.
Detective Lt. Kurt Conroy said the victim reports that a
former employee altered invoices between September and
October 2014. It is alleged that the employee pocketed the
difference between the true invoice amount and the altered
invoices.
“The case is still being investigated,” Conroy said.
In other police reports:
• A larceny was reported Saturday from a residence on
Lindbergh Avenue. A snowboard was reported taken from
the breezeway of the residence.
• There was a report Saturday of criminal mischief on
Clark Avenue. The caller reported damage to the exterior
rear door of the residence but there was no sign of entry
and nothing was taken.
• There was an attempted larceny Sunday of two 25ounce beers at a business on Market Street. The individual was allegedly confronted at the exit and returned the
property to the store. No charges were filed.
• There was a report of criminal mischief Monday on
Garden Street. A caller reported one of her apartments
was damaged by a tenant. The caller was referred to civil
court to recover the damage. However a refrigerator may
have been taken from the apartment. The case is open to
investigation, Conroy said.
• There was a hit and run Monday on Bunn Street. An
anonymous witness stated an unknown pickup truck
backed up into another vehicle and fled the scene.
• A caller reported a larceny Tuesday on Morris Street.
The caller said she had agreed to sell a Toshiba mini laptop to a party on Facebook. Upon meeting with the individual Tuesday and while showing them the laptop, they took
off with it, police said.

vehicle and was released on
a traffic to appear in city
court.
• Anibal Berrios, 39, of 48
Elizabeth St., was charged
Monday with seventh-degree
criminal possession of a controlled substance and is to
appear in city court. He was
then turned over to the
Montgomery County Sheriff’s
Office on an outstanding
bench warrant.
• Wilmarie Carrillo, 38, of
404 Summit Ave.,
Schenectady, was charged
Tuesday with theft of services
for not paying a cab fare as
well as false impersonation
after allegedly providing
police with a false name during her arrest. She was
released on an appearance
ticket for city court and was
turned over to Schenectady
Police for an outstanding
arrest warrant.
• Joseph Angelo, 44, of 28
Broadway Extension, was
charged Tuesday with second-degree harassment for a
physical altercation that
occurred Nov. 26, 2014, in
which he allegedly punched a
victim in the mouth. He was
released on his own recognizance from court.
• Marilyn Torres, 23, of 61
Jay St., was charged
Tuesday third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of
a motor vehicle following a
vehicle stop on Jay Street.
She was released on $100
cash bail to return to city
court.
• Gerald Gallup, 56, of 18
Northampton Road, was
charged Tuesday with thirddegree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor
vehicle and driving with a
suspended registration following a vehicle stop on Division
Street. He was released on
traffic tickets to appear in city
court.
• Penny Brooks, 46, of 4
Grace St., Johnstown, was
charged Tuesday with driving
with a suspended registration
following a vehicle stop on
East Main Street. She was
released on a traffic ticket for
city court.
• Delvon Sewer, 31, of 33
Elizabeth St., was charged
Wednesday with first-degree
criminal contempt for violating
a stay-away order of protection. He was held for arraignment.

Sheriff’s Office
• Amy Lynn Johnson, 25,
and Jason Daniel Moyer, 23,
were arrested after allegedly
attempting to steal from
Super Shoes in the town of
Amsterdam while Johnson’s
son was with them. Deputies
said Johnson and Moyer
were charged with petit larceny and endangering the welfare of a child after they
reportedly stole shoes from
the store’s shelves by concealing the merchandise in a
purse carried by Johnson.
• Two residents were arrested and charged with unlawful
possession of marijuana following a traffic stop in the village of Fort Hunter. Matthew
Steven Litz, 21, of West
Winfield and Darius Leon
Butler, 18, of Tribes Hill were
allegedly found smoking marijuana in Litz’s vehicle.
Deputies said they also found
a glass pipe with burned marijuana in it and found a quantity of marijuana on Butler.
They were issued tickets to
appear in Florida town court.
• Peter William Mertens, 24,
of Hagaman was arrested
Jan. 19 and charged with petit
larceny after allegedly stealing
a GPS device from a vehicle
on Northern Boulevard
