February 1, 2015 - Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Community

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time  February 1, 2015
Moses reassures the people that God will one day raise up a prophet like him
among them. St. Paul teaches that some people are called to devote their lives to
service to the Lord. In the gospel, St. Mark tells us that Jesus taught in the
synagogue and expelled unclean spirits. The people were astonished and
amazed by the authority of his words.
Not all people are called to be a Moses or a St. Paul, but each of us can speak
against injustices in our society. We can live the teachings of Jesus in our
families and in the workplace. We can be the messenger of God’s love and
forgiveness to someone whom no one else can reach. Such service can bring us
great joy.
Lenten dinners – Volunteers meeting
On Tuesday, February 10, at 7pm, all Lenten
dinner volunteers are invited to a general meeting
in the parish hall. Ray Lucido wants to make sure
that this year our dinners are going to be the best
and that all volunteers know what is happening.
While being fundraising events these dinners also
build up our parish and bring us closer together.
Heartfelt thanks to all those of who are working
so hard to make these events happen.
Lenten
Bible
Study
The Ressurection of Jesus
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, February 18. I
was thinking to make Lent special by offering
four Bible Study sessions focusing on the
Resurrection of Jesus according to the four
Gospels. We will meet in the parish hall on the
following Wednesdays of Lent, at 6:00pm: March
4, 11, 18, 25. Each session will be approximately
one hour.
Drinks and snacks will be provided. Please email
me if you are interested in attending this Bible
study.
Jury Duty?
It is possible that
beginning with this week I
will be on jury duty. If I
will not be dismissed, our
week day Mass schedule
will be affected and we
will have Communion
Services instead. I will inform you as soon as
possible about this issue.
What to do with our empty lot?
Last weekend I asked you to send me some
suggestions in regards to our empty lot. By early
2019 we must build something on the property
and incorporate it to the parish otherwise we will
loose our water credits. Please send me your
proposals via email. We will discuss them with
the pastoral and finance councils and then present
them to you.
