Pedal a Path to Independence: A Spring Favorite!
Your editor has done this ride every year since its inception
save one, and he and Stoker have already signed up the
Brumby Tandem for the event. We hope to see lots of SBC
members wearing club jerseys join us. Why not sign up right
now and support this worthy cause? Here’s the information
about this very entertaining event.
Community Center for the Blind invites you to the seventh
Pedaling Paths to Independence on Saturday, February 28,
2015. A great ride on ANY bike–road, tandem, mountain, single
speed, recumbent, fixed gear, cruiser, high wheel, hybrid, or
even unicycle! The metric century (65 miles with 1,300 feet of
elevation gain) and quarter century (25 miles with 300 feet of
elevation gain) routes begin and end at DeVinci’s Delicatessen
and Catering-Linden (18847 East Front Street, Linden) and traverse the quiet rural roads of San
Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Calaveras counties, through verdant pastures, orchards, and vineyards.
(The metric century includes a portion of Stage Three of the 2011 Tour of California). Fees ($40.00
for the metric century, $35.00 for the quarter century) include pastoral scenery, maps and route
sheets, pre-ride technical support from Lodi Bicycle Shoppe, radio communications provided by the
Stockton-Delta Amateur Radio Club, fully stocked rest stops with those famous Betty Crocker®
Brownies courtesy of General Mills, Inc. Lodi Plant, fig bars provided by Nature’s Bakery, and
Gatorade supplied by Farmington Circle K. Of course, riders and guests will end the day with a
scrumptious post ride meal catered by DeVinci’s Delicatessen and Catering–Linden, dessert from
Lindt & Sprüngli (USA) and United Way of San Joaquin County, and entertainment by Creative
Sounds DJ and Sound Services. Miles John Natural Light Photography will capture images of the
event, which will be available for purchase. And, be sure to bring a few extra dollars to purchase raffle
tickets–$1.00 each or six for $5.00–to win some very cool items donated by Polar Bottle®, Rivet
Cycle Works, LLC, Road ID, and more. Register online—no additional fee—at
http://www.communitycenterfortheblind.org/pedaling-paths by February 22, 2015. Or, download
a registration form and mail your entry by February 13, 2015. Riders must be at least 16 years of age;
each rider must sign a waiver at the event.
