Ruđer Bošković Institute Second announcement and call for registration EURADOS Annual Meeting 2015 AM2015 Dubrovnik, 9-12 February 2015 Including: Winter School "The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident - the role of dosimetry in assessing the consequences" Meetings of EURADOS Working Groups EURADOS General Assembly and Council Meeting European Radiation Dosimetry Group e.V. Ruđer Bošković Institute Invitation Since 2002 EURADOS Annual Meetings (AM) are key elements in the agenda of the community working in the field of ionising radiation dosimetry. It has become a tradition to combine statutory actions of EURADOS with meetings of EURADOS Working Groups and also with events of general interest such as the EURADOS Winter School or a workshop dedicated to a topic of particular importance. The AM2015 will take place on 9-12 February 2015 at Importanne Resort in Dubrovnik, organised by the Radiation Chemistry and Dosimetry Laboratory, Ruđer Bošković Institute. The meeting includes the 8th EURADOS Winter School "The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident - the role of dosimetry in assessing the consequences". It is planned to provide all presentations of this event on the EURADOS website. This second announcement shows the overall programme as well as the topics and the speakers of the presentations during the Winter School. We encourage you to register and to book your hotel at your earliest convenience. Please note the reduced fee for early registration before 9 January 2015 and the final deadline for registration of 5 February 2015. We look forward to seeing many colleagues from the EURADOS network and also many other persons interested in the topics of AM2015 in Dubrovnik. Ruđer Bošković Institute 8th EURADOS Winter School "The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident - the role of dosimetry in assessing the consequences" 12 February 2015 Scope: It was on March 11, 2011, when Japan was hit by a three-fold catastrophe. First, the magnitude 9.0 great Tohoku earth-quake occurred in the sea east of Japan, followed by a tsunami that devastated large parts of the North-Eastern Japanese coast. As a result, the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant suffered a complete power failure which led to an insufficient cooling of the reactor core already shut down at that time. The subsequent hydrogen explosions resulted in large-scale radioactive releases, mainly of 131I and 137Cs. The 8th EURADOS Winter School is dedicated to this nuclear accident, focussing on the relevance of dosimetry for the assessment of the consequences of this disaster. The school will include a description of how the accident happened, followed by a discussion of doses to the workers at the plant and the radioecological issues that became relevant after the radioactive releases, including remediation actions that were initiated. Doses to the Japanese population and the resulting radiation risk, EURADOS activities after the Fukushima accident, as well as radiation protection issues will be also addressed. All lectures will be given by internationally well-known scientists who are involved in actions taken in the aftermath of the Fukushima accident. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Topics: How did it happen: lay out of the accident The role of dosimetry in the radioecology and remediation actions Doses and risks to workers and the population in Japan Scientific Committee: Maria Antonia Lopez (CIEMAT, Spain) Werner Rühm (HMGU, Germany) Filip Vanhavere (SCK-CEN, Belgium) 4 European Radiation Dosimetry Group e.V.
