February 1, 2015 WELCOME TO THE CHURCH OF St. Bridget 600 Clifford Avenue • Loves Park, IL 61111 633-6311 www.StBridgetLovesPark.org Reverend Msgr. Daniel Deutsch, Pastor Reverend Christopher DiTomo, Associate Pastor Reverend Keith Romke, Associate Pastor Deacons Philip E. Abel, Jovie Reyes, William Riseley Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time FROM THE DESK OF MSGR. DANIEL DEUTSCH Dear Parishioners, 1. Thanks to all for a great Catholic Schools Week. We are blessed with a principal, staff, teachers, students and parents that do our parish proud. In addition, none of this would be possible without your support. 2. In this Year of the Consecrated Life, we honor our consecrated religious next Sunday at the noon mass by inviting them to be with us as they renew their vows. That will be a lovely privileged moment for all of us, especially our very own, Sr. Mary Kay. 3. Please make plans to come to Scott Hahn on February 14th at 10am for his amazing presentation. He is one of the best teachers and speakers I have ever heard. If you can't pay for the ticket, give what you can, but please come. I promise you, you will be glad you did. 4. SAMPLE for the Mass time changes we will be deciding on in the next month or so: Saturday @ 4pm or 4:30pm, Sunday @ 7:30, 9 and 11 Saturday @ 4pm or 4:30pm, Sunday @ 8:00, 9:30 and 11 or Some other variation as you may suggest. Think about it and pray. We will talk more in a month, then decide. The change will go into effect after RE ends in May. 5. Lent will be starting in a few weeks. We will have more information about all the different things we will be doing as a parish, but please start thinking about where you feel the Lord is calling you to make some changes in your life. 6. The priests will be gone from Monday to Wednesday next week at our mandatory annual priest conference. All the priests of the whole diocese will gather for 3 days at a conference center in Lake Geneva for fraternity, teaching and time with our Bishop and presenter, Fr. Michael Schmitz (He's the priest who did our parish mission last year). Please pray for all of us and for me as well since I am the one who is organizing and running the conference. Peace, Msgr. Invite her to come with you as you go through your day. Tell her what you're doing. Ask her for her help. Tell her you love her. Tell her of your joys and fears. The more you converse with Our Lady, the closer she will be to you and the closer you will feel to her. Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Beginning February 18, 2015, Ash Wednesday, the Novena is moving back into the Church! The Rosary will begin at 5:10pm followed by Mass at 5:30pm. The Novena will begin immediately after Mass. Please join us every Wednesday as we petition our Blessed Mother for her help with all of our needs. Super Bowl Sunday, February 1st is just around the corner. This means that our SOUPER BOWL PANTRY COLLECTION is almost here too. Vote for your favorite team with canned goods or money donations or if your favorite team isn't playing then vote for the "I don't care, but the pantry does" team. No matter how you vote we all are winners in helping feed the poor. HIKE! Pantry Note: We here stories on the evening news and most of them are tragic. Rarely, do we hear a happy story, nor do we hear the outcomes, or as Paul Harvey puts it "the rest of the story”. I often wonder what the outcomes are for some of our pantry families. Sometimes they come back and tell me they are okay now. One special case, a man named Mark, calls me now and then and updates me. He is the one that several years ago I asked for the donation of a coat when I did my annual turkey talk and then the men's coats came flooding in. Mark has now moved to a warmer climate where a winter coat is no longer necessary. He says he is doing fine. He lives on a shoe string and enjoys life. I would be in great despair if I were him. He is confined to an electric wheelchair with very limited walking. A car accident caused the damage to his body. If you ever met Mark he would not be talking much about his troubles, instead he would be up to date on the latest ball stats, or the newest cars coming out, or anything positive. I admire him for that. I wonder what kind of story I tell. Do I have hope and optimism like Mark? Do I look for the happy note? This last week I helped a man sign up for LIHEAP and as we worked on his application he shared with me his story. He had gotten custody of his son when he was only months old and now his son is a successful adult. His story was touching and the joy and light in his face was that of peace and calm. I wonder what story my face tells? What story do you tell? ~Teresa Marotta CHARISMATIC HISPANIC PRAYER GROUP Will meet on Wednesdays from 7:00 until 8:30 PM. We will meet in Mitchell Hall. Please call Rose Johnson at 815/282-9579 for more information. Vocations Corner: Let God Encounter You Day in and day out how often does it seem as if in order to get anywhere in life or in order to accomplish anything that you need to first prove yourself to others or to fulfill certain benchmarks or goals? I’ll admit that this temptation tries to creep in each and every day of my life. I think that this phenomenon is simply a part of our culture and a part of our lives. One place where this need to prove oneself NEVER needs to apply is in living a life of prayer. You see, God loves you just as you are right now. It’s not as if you have to reach a certain level of prayer before you can be pleasing to God. I used to think that unless I could pray with perfect focus 100% of the time, that I would be a miserable priest and that God wouldn’t be able to use me. Guess what? I still don’t stay focused all of the time and I’m not a perfect pray-er by any stretch. But the difference between God and the way the world sometimes works is that God is more interested in our intentions and our efforts than in results! God simply wants for us to be willing to walk with Him no matter where we might find ourselves. We don’t have to walk alone in order to get to Him first, so that we can then walk with Him down the road. So let God encounter you now, so that He can lead you to where you need to be. ~Fr. Keith Romke Pre-Kindergarten School News Pre-K has had an exciting and busy year! So far, we have enjoyed learning about all of the wonderful gifts that God has blessed us with. We just shared “Muffin Day” with moms and other people meaningful to us for “M” week. We are enjoying learning about the weekly gospel and Jesus through our “Seeds” program. The children continue to love the new “Page Turner Reading Program” we introduced last year. Each month they look forward to getting a new, free book for their home libraries from the United Way Reading Program. Everyday is a new learning experience and we can’t wait to see what other blessings this year holds for us! We are also very excited to be introducing a NEW Pre-K (4) program next fall that will consist of FIVE afternoons a week! We will continue to also have a Pre-K (4) program that is three-mornings a week as well as our two-mornings a week Pre-K (3) program. Registration will begin next month and spots will fill up quickly. Call the school office at (815)6338255 for more information. Thank you. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends are February 6-8, 2015 in Crystal Lake, IL., March 6-8 in Madison, WI. And April 17-19 in Brookfield, WI. Early registration is highly recommended.
