Federation Update
Events Affecting Kings Point
In Case You Haven’t Heard….
You can now drive your golf cart after dark in Kings Point!
During the December Federation Board Meeting, the Sheriff’s Resource
Deputy, Jason Castillo, announced that Sheriff’s officers are not going to
cite golf cart driving after dark in Kings Point. Because Kings Point roads
are considered private, at the community’s request the Sheriff, using his
discretion over enforcement of civil infractions, has decided that officers
will not cite driving golf carts after dark. However, officers will continue to
Jim Haggerty, President
issue citations for other traffic violations such as speeding, running stop
signs, crashes, etc. In addition the officers will enforce all other criminal laws, such as reckless driving
or DUI’s.
To be very clear: Driving golf carts after dark on public roads is a civil infraction. Because our roads in
Kings Point are private and separate from Sun City Center, you are allowed to operate your golf cart
after dark only inside Kings Point. You are not to go outside our gates! If you go outside the Kings
Point gates you will be ticketed. For example, if you go to Winn-Dixie after dark you can be ticketed
and we are told that fines are $103. Therefore STAY INSIDE KINGS POINT AFTER DARK—
specifically from sunset to sunrise. Also golf cart driving on the roads outside the South Gate ANY
TIME DAY OR NIGHT is not allowed—note the large sign painted on the road at the South Gate exit.
If you drive after dark you must have lights and turning signals on both the front and rear of your golf
cart. And whether it is daylight or dark, golf carts must obey all the “rules of the road” required of
other vehicles—don’t run stop signs or commit other traffic violations. If we don’t observe all of these
requirement, we could lose these privileges.
Finally, remember that other vehicles on the road are all bigger than our golf carts, so golf cart drivers
and their passengers are on the losing end of any accidents that may happen!
Special thanks to the Sheriff’s Office for making this happen for the Kings Point residents.

Safety & Security
F
irst off, I would to thank everyone for the
warm welcome I’ve received since I’ve joined
you here at Kings Point. It has been great to
get reacquainted with friends and meet new
residents who have moved here since I worked here 10
years ago.
Back then, as the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office
Community Resource Deputy, I thought very highly of the
Kings Point Security.
I often told residents here that, for the size and volume
of traffic that gets processed through your gates, they do an
extraordinary job.
As a matter of fact, it’s because of the outstanding
reputation of the Kings Point Security that I couldn’t resist
the opportunity to come and work for you.
Now that I’m here and have again taken the time to
observe the gate operations, and noting the growth of the
community over the past 10 years, I’m even more impressed at the volume of traffic that gets processed through
the gates, all the while maintaining a high level of customer
service to guest and residents.
I was amazed to learn that Security dispensed over
143,000 visitor passes throughout the year 2014.
The credit for this remarkable achievement goes to
you the residents, who reliably call in (813-634-2063) or
email ([email protected]) your guest’s visit
prior to their arrival and to the fine officers who process
your visitors in a professional and expeditious manner.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for
your cooperation and to refresh and remind our
“experienced’ residents of the visitor pass procedures and
to introduce the procedures to our new residents.
Visitor pass procedures
All visitors need to be called in to the front or back
security gate.
Either gate may be called as the information is entered
into a computer system accessed by both gates.
Please have the address where the visitor will be going, the name of the resident of that address and the visitor’s first name/names or company name, if appropriate,
and length of visit (30 day maximum) readily available.
To limit visitor entry delays, inform visitors that they
will also need that information at hand to give to the security officer while approaching the visitor’s lane.
If the visitor’s pass request has not been called in or
missing or conflicting names and/or addresses are noted,
4
the visitor will be asked to call the resident and request
the resident to call the security gate for visit verification.
All visitor passes are to be placed on the
dashboard so they may be viewed by security during
guest’s visits.
