A Note from Dea…
Happy New Year! Big news for our office: Declan was named by Groups Today Magazine as a Top
10 Next Gens: Leaders of the Next Generation in Group Travel in their January issue. Declan is
one of 10 people under 40 making a difference in the industry with creative ideas and entrepreneurial
spirit. They even had a special reception for him during the 2015 American Bus Association
Marketplace, of which Saint Louis was honored to be the host city. Our sister company, Discover St.
Louis, was chosen by the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission to offer 11 unique tours of the
St. Louis area. All week people shared their wonder about our city, from our incredible neighborhoods
such as The Hill and Lafayette Square to our world-class attractions such as the St. Louis Zoo, the City
Museum, Missouri History Museum, the Fabulous Fox and Ballpark Village. It was refreshing to hear
how much they loved our city and are planning tours to bring their own groups for a visit.
Last year was our highest mileage year yet, beginning with an 18,000 mile round trip journey to
Tanzania, where we brought 8 people on the journey of a lifetime. Declan and I have dreamed of touring
Africa, and the trip exceeded all expectations. Our safari went through the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro
Crater, and Lake Manyara regions, seeing elephants, lions, zebra, giraffes and even 10-day-old cheetah
kittens! It was breathtaking, and the people of Tanzania were so friendly, it made the entire trip so
relaxing. Our next Tanzanian Safari Splendors is in 2016, so make plans and sign up today!
After three successful Ireland tours featuring the Castles & Manors, we redesigned the entire
tour, focusing on the Backroads of Ireland. The biggest highlight of the tour was our overnight on the
Isle of Inishbofin, home to the only pub we’ve ever seen with the owner’s platinum record on the wall!
We head back in 2016, and if you’re lucky, maybe he’ll sing for you as well.
Back home we toured 38 states and the District of Columbia. Our National Parks tour went
through 11 states, and in 2016 we bring back our Route 66 tour to visit some of the 12 we missed.
So what’s in store for this year? A tour of which I have dreamed since I started watching the hit
PBS series: From Downton Abbey to Downtown London. We are lucky enough to have tickets to tour
Byfleet Manor and Highclere Castle, the actual locations used in the filming of Downton Abbey! If you
are a fan of the show as much as I am, or know someone who is, this is the opportunity of a lifetime.
We spend 5 nights in Windsor and also go into London for touring. But don’t delay - as one of our
friends in the UK has said, “these tickets are as rare as gold flakes”. Call today!
Fancy going to other European cities? Our Paris, London and Rome tour is nearly at
capacity! This highlights tour is in conjunction with our friend Michael who runs a tour company in
Pennsylvania. He lived in Europe and adds such a special flair to the tour having been a local. He is
also planning our Hidden Treasures of Central & Eastern Europe tour coming up in 2016.
In the US, we have an Are We There Yet? first of overnighting at Nottoway Plantation on
Natchez and New Orleans, a Select tour. I have taken groups there several times for lunches and tours
but this will be the first time we stay in their incredible rooms. I know you’ll love it! Another original
journey includes the Biltmore House and Gardens in the spring, when the gardens are in full bloom.
For those who have never been, or who have only been during Christmastime, this is a whole new way
to see this magnificent home.
Stemming from our meetings at ABA, we just recently added two tours. First is a Halls of Fame
tour featuring the MLB, NFL, NBA and Rock ‘n Roll halls as well as a game at Fenway, MLB’s oldest
park! We also have a Breakfast with Jack Hanna and the animals of the Columbus Zoo tour. He only
does this a few times a year, and only for groups. You’ve seen him on TV for years, now see him live,
plus have a photo with him and his animal companion for the day.
We have some great summer tours lined up. For those who like some excitement, why not
celebrate our nation’s birthday in style with our NYC Freedom Tour over the 4th of July? Slightly
different from our NYC Express, this tour includes breakfast every morning, a 4-hour city tour with
lunch, and a Brooklyn “Epicurious Tour,” featuring incredible food from the hottest borough of New
York City! For those wanting some relaxation, you cannot do better than our yearly trek to Mackinac
Island. With 3 nights on the island, it’s the perfect place to unwind. Sports fans might want to check
out our Cards vs Cubs 2 game tour in September - get there early for the best experience!
Fall finds us returning to the Northeast on our New England Fall Foliage. Many of you have
wanted more time in New England, so we are flying this year. Want to travel a bit further? Our Rhine
River Splendors will amaze you with the scenic gorges, castles on the hillsides, and old-world charm.
Then we have our Australia and New Zealand All Over “Down Under” tour, featuring the best of both
countries, we’ll see the great vistas of Ayer’s Rock and Milford Sound, quaint towns of Alice Springs and
Christchurch, sheep stations and Sydney Harbour, and so much more. While it might seem far away,
the sooner you book, the better the airfare will be!
We’ve finalized most of the details on our Christmas tours, flying to San Antonio’s Illuminated
Riverwalk and coaching to Colonial Williamsburg.
There are so many great places we are visiting this year. We can’t wait for you to join us on our
tours across America as well as around the world!
