Every year about this time I receive numerous mailings promoting books, seminars, programs promising to show the
way to grow the church. They
are always tempting. Some offers may sit on my desk for a
while, but eventually most find
their way to the wastebasket.
That is not to say that these
types of things are a waste of
time and money. I am sure they
offer good ideas and specific
things that can be helpful in
growing the church. I know that
is true because over the years I
have read some of the books
and used some of the programs.
then those of us who were here
adopted a common purpose
based on a simple Scripture
verse that described the life of
the first church and first believers in Jesus, some of whom had
seen Jesus after he had risen
from the dead. Their life together as the church is described this
way: All the believers devoted
themselves to the apostles’
teaching, and to fellowship, and
to sharing in meals (including
the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. (Acts 2:42)
Today, we speak of our life together differently. We are a people who are focused on Helping
People Become Fully Alive in
Jesus! Our Biblical basis for that
remains the same. As we devote
ourselves to God’s Word, each

The mother has invited Mariam

with Pastor PJ from Mt. Moriah,

John, too, meets with the man

beliefs were discussed, so John

between Islam and Christianity
with the message of salvation.
Now, each time they meet, John

Please pray for this man and his

CONNECTING AND STAYING CONNECTED TO THE BODY
Getting and staying connected at
a church can be challenging.
There are so many ways to get
involved it can be a little overwhelming and maybe even intimidating, be it volunteering or just
plugging into one of the many

equip and enable these connections, but we can only do so
much. Let me just say that any

“I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since

Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not
say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what
was spoken through the prophet:
