Have you ever thought of giving
the gift of stock to generate an
income tax charitable deduction?
Cashing in your stock investment
comes with a price tag in the form of
capital gain tax. Many charitable
minded taxpayers have discovered
that they can reduce or even
eliminate capital gain tax by using
their appreciated investments to fund
their charitable objectives. A well
planned gift of stock may let you
generate an income tax charitable
deduction based on the full fair
market value of the stock. Check with your
investment counselor to see if this might work for you!

The Fourth Sunday
Dear Friends,
in Ordinary Time
God has graciously called us here today on this Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time to
support each other in our faith and to be nourished at the tables of the Word and the Eucharist.
The question is always how do we, called as disciples of Jesus Christ, hear the Word of God and
most importantly, put it into practice in our lives? Does what we do here each Sunday make a
difference in our lives and in the lives of those around us? Perhaps our prayer this week is to ask
the Lord for the ability to hear what he is saying to us through his Word and to have the courage
to put it into practice.
This past week we had a wonderful celebration of Catholic Schools Week here at Saint
Joseph/Saint Robert School. The theme this year was CATHOLIC SCHOOLS: COMMUNITIES
OF FAITH, KNOWLEDGE AND SERVICE. We are very proud of this very important
component of our parish community which indeed fosters a lively faith, excellent academic
program and a rigorous service outreach. Just for your information and reflection, currently we
have 89 families from our parish who make use of our school with 142 of the 242 children
enrolled from our parish. This represents 4% of our families who take advantage of this form of
Catholic education. Our parish currently subsidizes the school $190,980 annually. This
translates into a scholarship for each student attending at $1,364.00 This is a wonderful
expression of our parish’s commitment to this form of Catholic education and its mission to educate the
youth of the community. As we heard from the students at last week’s Masses, the students are aware of
your sacrifices on their behalf and they pray each day for the benefactors that make their school
accessible and affordable for their parents.
This Sunday our Confirmation candidates are on retreat at the Shrine of Our Lady of
Czestochowa in Doylestown in preparation for their reception of this sacrament on Thursday, March
12th at 4 PM. We are blessed to have Bishop John McIntrye with us once again to administer this great
gift of the Holy Spirit. Please pray for these young people, that they will be true witnesses to the faith
and welcome the power of the Holy Spirit into their lives in this special way. Please also remember their
parents and sponsors in your prayers. They have an awesome responsibility before God to be the best of
teachers and living examples of what it means to be a public witness to our great faith.
We continue with our capital campaign BUILDING ON OUR FAITH....EXPANDING OUR
LEGACY! We are grateful for the contributions already received and the pledges made in good faith.
There are many families we have not heard from and we will be reaching out to them in the near future.
If you have an intention to participate in this endeavor, please let us know by making a gift or pledge
today. Our Fund Raising Committee will meet this Tuesday for a strategic planning meeting to further
this campaign.
May Saint Robert Bellarmine bless our winter days with the warmth of God’s love and the
brightness of his grace!
With prayers,

FOCUS ON FAITH
FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
FIRST READING: God’s Prophet — Deuteronomy 18:15-20
The legacy of Moses endures because God promises that he will continue to raise up a
prophet to help guide the people. God will put his word in the mouth of the prophet whose
preaching will convey the message intended by the Lord.
SECOND READING: God’s Teaching — 1 Corinthians 7:32-35
Marriage for Paul was difficult, and so marriage was a distraction for him. Paul instructs
the Christian community to be as free as possible of worldly ties. The believer’s focus is to
be entirely on the Lord and his coming.
GOSPEL: God’s Holy One — Mark 1:21-28
The miracle Jesus performs leads the people to see his teaching in a new light. His
teaching does not contain mere words. His teaching, full of authority, is one of action that
effects healing.
The words that Jesus speaks are a direct and victorious confrontation with the forces of evil
which can possess the
human heart. We, too, are called to banish evil because, baptized into Christ, we are
holy ones “of God.” Does this give you confidence and allow you to be “free of anxieties” as Paul request of us in the
second reading?
Lord, we ask that we may grow in our baptismal holiness and confront evil with authority and victory.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul
was formed in Paris, France in 1833
by six college students who were
looking to live out the gospel
message of taking care of His "least
ones," as Jesus Himself spelled out
in Matthew 25. The first Conference
(parish-based group of members) was established in Philadelphia in
1851. Today, the Society has more than 40 Conferences in the
Archdiocese of Philadelphia, with over 600 active members, all helping
the poor in their local communities.
SVDP-Philadelphia is embarking on a new chapter in its
history with some exciting new methods to combat poverty and its
effect in our communities. With those opportunities comes the
challenge for new leadership, with fresh visions and more effective
ways of better serving the people in need in the greater Philadelphia
area.
We are seeking persons who want to assist us in this revitalized
mission, helping the Society to grow stronger and thrive while tending
to the needs of those struggling. We are looking for Conference
members, officers, and even positions on the Board of Directors. We
need your help as we focus our goals to serve Christ’s poor for years to
come.
As new Board President, I welcome your insight, interest, and
energy. Please contact me at 267-266-3938 to discuss how we can
work together to serve the poor in the Philadelphia area. I eagerly await
your call and ask for your prayers as we continue to move forward.
