Helias Catholic High School 2015 Hall of Fame New Members
A distinguished group of seven individuals were celebrated Sunday at the Helias Catholic High School Hall of
Fame Mass and Banquet. Helias is pleased to honor these exceptional individuals who have given of
themselves to Helias and the community.
This year’s newest Hall of Fame inductees joining an already outstanding list of sixty-five previously inducted
include: Mary Lock Flowers ‘73, Craig Husting, Everett A. Ralston (posthumously), Robert “Jack” Schnieders,
Debora E. Snyder, Edward J. Twehous ‘79 and Daniel G. VanderFeltz ‘80.
The Hall of Fame mission is to foster a greater understanding and recognition of Helias Catholic High School
individuals that displayed outstanding achievement in their communities and who have provided assistance to
the school both financially and personally. These individuals, awaken a greater interest in cooperation to aid,
improve, and develop the established mission of Helias Catholic and the Helias Foundation.
The Helias Foundation is established to support long-term financial stability for a quality Helias Catholic
education based in faith, knowledge and service to others.
“Jack” Schnieders, who currently resides in Oak Grove, Missouri was hired by Helias in 1956 to teach English and
Physical Education. He also was the Coach of the first Football team and Track team at Helias. His teams held
the nation’s longest winning streak in football and was named National High School Coach of the Year. “Jack”
stated: "I spent 10 glorious years as a teacher and coach at Helias High School. Some of my proudest and most
joyful memories come from my experience and association with the faculty and students during those early
years. I will always remember and cherish my time there. I am proud to see what the school and its athletic
program have grown into since those days and I want nothing but the best for the future of Helias."
Likewise, Ed Twehous and Dan VanderFeltz who are both graduates of Helias, are very proud of the Catholic
education and experiences they received while attending Helias. Being able to give back of their time, talent,
and treasure, like the many alumni and community people who sacrificed for them during their time at Helias,
supports the fact that things do come full circle. Twehous explains: “The time I spend helping out at Helias is
simply… all about the kids. Year after year…..we have the best and brightest young people to ever walk
through the doors of any school. It’s rewarding to me to watch students go through their four years at Helias
Catholic and see them grow as individuals and as Catholics. It’s also a lot of fun to hear, “Hey, Mr. Twehous!”
from everyone I see.” VanderFeltz continues the same sentiment by saying: “Being a Catholic comes with great
responsibility. It is important to receive and honor the sacraments. And equally it is important is to raise your
children Catholic. Helias was built for that reason and I have tried and will continue doing my part to keep it
going.”
This year’s nominees along with others from the past get involved in their communities and their cities. They are
nominated not just for their contribution to Helias with their time and talent, but their contribution in their field of
work, their charitable work outside of Helias, and also their involvement in their city. Craig Husting graduated
from Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, Texas. Craig is a youth basketball coach and co-founder of the Knights
Basketball Club and is a member of the United Way of Central Missouri Governing Body. Craig’s involvement
with Helias began several years ago and continues to be very strong today and into the future. Husting states:
“I am honored to be associated with Helias Catholic High School and proud that Helias continues to offer a
quality and faith based education at a low cost to the families of central Missouri.”
