OFFICE OF THE DEAN OF STUDENTS The Office of the Dean of Students provides institutional leadership for the development and delivery of a broad range of student services, essential to the achievement of the educational goals of the institution. Student Services are designed to contribute to the health, social, academic, career, sports, cultural, moral, intellectual, and physical well-being of students. It creates an environment that complements the central teaching and research mission of the Polytechnic, while building within each student a sense of personal worth, self-confidence and sense of community. STUDENT SERVICES SECTION: HEALTH HEALTH SERVICES SECTION: SERVICES Provides primary health care services and ensures a good quality of life of all students. It focuses on the prevention of illnesses, promotion of a healthy life style and general hygiene. Health Development Workshops focuses on family planning, First Aid, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s) and HIV and AIDS. SECTION: SOCIAL SOCIAL WELFARE WELFARE SERVICES SECTION: SERVICES Focuses on social problems and promotes good mental health amongst students. Social Welfare Development Workshops focuses on issues related to violence against women and children, alcohol and substance abuse, World-NO-tobacco day, relationships, date rape and stress management. SECTION: STUDENT STUDENT COUNSELLING HIV/AIDS COORDINATION COORDINATION SERVICES SECTION: COUNSELING &&HIV/AIDS SERVICES Provide comprehensive academic & social counselling. It features both individual and group counselling. Student Academic Development Workshops focuses on study skills, note taking, time management, exam preparation, test anxiety, concentration and procrastination as well as student leadership workshop. SECTION: JOB JOB PLACEMENT PLACEMENT SERVICES SECTION: SERVICES Provide students with career guidance counselling. Career Guidance Development Workshops focuses on job-hunting/search skills, CV writing, interview preparation, cover/thank you letter writing. SECTION:ACCOMMODATION, ACCOMMODATION, SPORT SECTION: SPORT AND ANDCULTURE CULTURE 416 beds. There are two (2) female hostels and one (1) male hostel. Provide quality living quarters. There are three (3) hostels with a capacity of 440 The three (3) hostel Superintendents are assisted by ten (10) Housing Committee (HC) members. Sport activities provide students with a well balanced and stimulating extra-curricular environment. It provides a platform for students to participate in a variety of sport codes. Students are encouraged to explore sports talent. The trophy award ceremony recognizes both sport and cultural achievements. Cultural activities provide students with a platform to express their cultural heritage. Extra-curricular activities are vital to each student’s education. The Cultural Festival is a weeklong event of fun and entertainment, which culminates the crowning of Miss and Mr Polytechnic. SECTION: HOSTEL HOSTEL AND SECTION: AND KITCHEN KITCHEN SERVICES SERVICES Provide students with a wide range of nutritional meals, served at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is planned in conjunction with the menu committee. Hostel and Kitchen services ensure a clean living environment, while auxiliary services are responsible for repair and maintenance of hostel facilities.
