STEW ARDSHIP AND THE SllNDAY GOSPEL
In the midst of miracles and cures and deep understanding of peo
ple, Jesus may sometimes seem distant from us . The readings on
this Fourth Sunday in Ordinal), Time, however, emphasize His
humanity; He was one of the people, someone who each of us
could relate to not as a God , but a man. However, it can be a bit
overwhelming for us to accept Jesus in the way He wants us to .
That does not mean we do not acknowledge His divinity, but we
al so must view Him as a companion on our own life's journey. In
a sense, this is what stewardship calls us to - walking with the
Lord and leaning on Him when we must, and certainly finding
strength in His presence. But to have Him present in our lives
requires us to make an effort to make that happen . In the first
reading fi'om Deuteronomy, Moses declares, "A prophet like me
will the Lord, your God, raise up for you from among your own
kin ; to him you shall listen." Throughout Advent and the Christ
mas season we prepared for the arrival of Jesus. Now as we ap
proach Lent and Easter it is time for us to listen to Him. The late
Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, "One of the best ways to get hap
piness and pleasure out of life is to ask ourselves, 'How can I
please God' ?" For more reflections on scripture and stewardship

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY
Sunday, February 1, 2015 there will be NO 6:00PM Mass.
ASH WEDNESDAY The Masses for Ash Wednesday will take place on Wednesday, February 18'h at 7:30AM and 7:00PM and there will be a noon
time prayer service with ashes taking place at 12: 10PM. BRISTOL LODGE MONTHLY DINNER The next Bristol Lodge Dinner will take place this Wednesday, February 4'h at 5:00PM. Suggested menu for this month is Meat
loaf, any type of vegetables, salad, dinner rolls or bread and des
sert. Our volunteers are happy to heat any food donations that come to the parish or directly to the soup kitchen. Volunteers are needed to prepare and donate a portion of the entree or any accompaniments; servings to feed 10-15 people will insure that there will be plenty of food to go around. Donations may be dropped off either here at the parish hall kitchen by 4:30PM or directly to the SOllP Kitchen at Immanuel Methodist Church, cor
ners of Moody and Cherry Streets by meal time at 5:00PM. BOY SCOUT SUNDAY This year we will celebrate Boy SCOllt Sunday a week later than usual. Since many families make a day of Superbowl Sunday we have scheduled our parish's Boy Scout Sunday Mass to take place at 1O:00AM on Sunday, February 8, 2015. We hope that all scouts, their pack leaders and assistants will join us for this spe
cial Mass which will be followed by a coffee and donut social in the parish hall. All are welcome! FEBRUARY 1,2015 PARISH NEWS, Continued

CATHOLIC APPEAL COORDINATOR
The pastor seeking a volunteer £i·om the parish to assist him in
next year's (2015) Catholic Appeal. The role of Appeal COOl·dina
tor would consist of attending one training session with the pastor
and parish staff members, assisting with presentations at Masses
on Appeal weekend, and helping to communicate ways in which
the Catholic Appeal supports parish mini stries, outreach to the
poor and support for Catholic parishes and agencies throughout the
Archdiocese.
VOLUNTEER(S) NEEDED
We are seeking one or several volunteers for a rela
tively simple task, to "adopt a pump". Our religious
education building contains 6 large pumps which
keep our rooms dry. They are relatively easy to main
tain but they do require an occasional check to keep a
balanced water level in the battery. We are seeking
one or more volunteer who could take on the task of
overseeing the pumps every other month or so and
refilling the battery with water when necessary. John
Carter, a parish volunteer who manages the systems
in the church will be more than pleased to have a vol
unteer or two for the RE room pumps and will walk
the volunteer through the process of checking and
filling the battery. This is the perfect volunteer oppor
tunity for busy parishioners or Religious Education
parents who can't commit much time but would like
to help their church. For additional infonnation
contact Bernadette at 781-893-8461.
