This volunteer position requires that you would accompany the guest to their site and impart park information and generally welcome our new neighbors. Wednesday, February 4th and Monday, February 9th Maricopa County Tent City Jail tours are full. If you signed up you are expected to be at the jail at the date and time on the sign up sheet. Wednesday, February 4th we will have an Italian Night Dinner sponsored by the Activity Committee at 4:30 in the CH. The menu is stuffed manicotti, salad and dessert for $8. Tickets available in Activity Office and at the ticket sales table. Thursday, February 5th the hiking group will be taking off at 8 a.m. from east of the CH. We will go to the Saguaro National Park in the Tucson area. There are several different trails to pick from. See information and sign up in the CH kitchen hallway. We will pick the actual trail later. Thursday, February 5th join the group for the Pacific NW Breakfast. Originally set up for people from Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, Idaho, Alberta and Montana, the group has grown to include anyone who would like to attend. Meet at Golden Corral at 8:30. Thursday, February 5th the Sunscape Singles will be having lunch at Francisco Grande at 11 a.m. Please sign up in the CH. Friday, February 6th a representative from Senior Financial Solutions will answer your questions regarding Medicare options, Long-Term Care, Final expenses, Wills & Trusts, Life insurance and Safe Annuities. Saturday, February 7th there will be park-wide yard sales from 8 to noon. If you can’t sell your items at your yard sale, drop them off at lot 269 or at lot 440 for the Park Party Garage Sale. No TV’s or electronics. Items need to be clean and in working order. Saturday, February 7th we’ll enjoy the comedy of Dan St. Paul, finalist in of the nation's toughest comedy competition, The San Francisco International Stand-Up Comedy Competition. Dan has appeared on several episodes of "An Evening at the Improv", plus numerous shows on VH-1, MTV, and Comedy Central. He has also opened for such superstars as Jerry Seinfeld, Natalie Cole, Dwight Yoakum, Smokey Robinson, and Vince Gill. He appeared in the movie "Flubber" with Robin Williams, and signed a recording deal with MCA records. His CD, "Natural and Good for You" contains one the most requested comedy pieces on radio, "The First Baseball Game". Tickets cost $8 and are available now for this 7 p.m. show in the Sunscape CC. Sunday, February 8th come enjoy the ice cream social in the CH at 2 p.m. Ice cream varieties available are no-sugar-added Vanilla and chocolate, reduced fat varieties of chocolate, chocolate revel, vanilla and strawberry revel. Regular, sugar free and reduced fat toppings available. $1 a scoop, $3 for a root beer float (available in diet) and $4 for a banana split. Sign up now for this free informational workshop to be held from 10:30 to noon in the AC CO. Monday February 9th There will be a Greeters Meeting in the library at 10 am. Greeters wanted must have a pleasant personality, able to provide their own golf cart, willing to be available one day a week on call, flexible enough to share duties with other greeters and assist on other days if they are available. Duties are to be the face of the park and provide a welcome that will impress newcomers and entice them to come back to our park. Contact Marion Wallin at 520-723-0311 for information. Tuesday, February 10th Sunscape residents are invited to join the tour of St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery south of Florence. See the beautiful wood, brick and tile work. We start off with a guide who explains some of the details on the origins of the monastery and the interior of St. Anthony’s Church. Tour four chapels and the Phaili Courtyard on your own. See the dress requirements and more information on the board in the CH kitchen hallway. Women musts wear long skirts and scarves over their hair. The monastery has a selection if you do not have your own. Everyone must wear long sleeves and cover their legs. The tagalong leaves from outside the Sunscape gates at 10 a.m. for the 10:30 tour. Sign up in the CH. Thursday, February 12th the United Blood Services Bloodmobile will be set up in front of the CH from 10 am to 2 pm. Arizona needs 500 blood donors every day to meet the needs of our hospital patients. With all of our visitors coming to the valley this week for two major sports events we will see that need go up even higher. Please help us by making an appointment or dropping by the blood drive to donate. Donors please bring I.D. Donors get points they can use to collect prizes. You can sign in online and avoid some of the paperwork before your appointment. Visit www.bloodhero.com. Friday, February 13th the Scarlet Darlin's Monthly Tea will be held at 2 pm in the CH. Scarlet Darlin’s is open to any women wanting to participate in activities with other ladies in the park with a goal of establishing new friendships. Scarlet Darlin’s has been organizing such functions since 2002. We were originally a Red Hat Chapter & had many great outings. We no longer belong to the national organization and do not claim Red Hat status. However we are still a group wanting to provide fun gatherings and outings for our members. We are asking for your participation to help us determine our direction for the future. We are extending an invitation to all the ladies in the park to come and share their ideas with us. Refreshments will be provided. Refreshment will be available Monday, February 16th a bus will take you to Wildhorse Pass or Lone Butte Casino for a day of fun. Wildhorse Pass has their Club 55+ day on Mondays with cash drawings hourly. Lone Butte will have their President’s Day Grand Slam Must Go Bingo with prizes as high as $5,000! If shopping is your thing, Wildhorse Pass has a shuttle bus from the casino to the outlet mall every 20 minutes. Sign up by Tuesday, February 10th. Please include your card number and indicate which casino at which you would like to be dropped off. Three tours have been scheduled for the Maricopa County Tent City Jail. Tuesday, February 10 th at 10 a.m., Monday, February 16th at 10 a.m. and Friday February 20th at 3:30 p.m. Attendance for each tour is limited to five people. Signup sheet will be taken down on one week before the event and sent to Maricopa County so they can do a background check on the people signed up. If you signed up, you are expected at the date and time you signed up for. Wednesday, February 24th a Shamrock Farms tour has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Past Sunscape visitors have been fascinated by this farm’s cleanliness and the cow’s milking routine. Cost for the farm tour is $8. The tour is given in an open-air tram that takes you around a working dairy farm. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour. Plan on arriving no earlier than 12:30 and no later than 12:45 so we can keep our “herd” together. After the tour we will visit the Welcome Center Barn where Shamrock Farms’ Premium ice cream, hot dogs, pretzels and more are sold at Roxie’s Ice Cream Parlor. You’re welcome to enjoy a brown bag or picnic lunch that you’ve brought in Roxie’s Welcome Center Barn. Seating is limited so sign up and pay by February 9th. Wednesday, March 18th seats have been reserved for the Seattle Mariners – Oakland Athletics spring training game at the Peoria Sports Complex. So far only 12 tickets have been purchased on the first level (Section 10) between home base and 1st base. This group, led by Lanney Wixson, will be renting a van to get to the game. Seats, van, gas and parking are included in the price of $49.75 per person. Please sign up ASAP if you are interested in this trip. There is another signup sheet for those interested in making the trip if we have enough interest for a bus load. We will be purchasing tickets and contracting for a bus if we get at least 40 people signed up. Seats for a later purchase will not be as good but the price for the trip may be lower. For Your Information Sunscape Players are happy to announce the 2015 play: “No Body Like Jimmy”, by Burton Bumgarner and produced by special arrangement with Heuer Publishing LLC of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The comedy will be performed the week of February 15, 2015 in the Community Center. Some previous play cast members have returned, including our favorite Pastor! There are several different types of donations boxes in the cabinet under the microwave in the CH. Please put used stamps (breast cancer fundraiser), Box Tops for Education, coupons, pop/beer can tops and glasses in the appropriate box. Please see JoAnn if you were the originator of any of these donation boxes. Would you be interested in joining a Sunscape trap shooting group? Some Sunscape residents have been shooting at the Casa Grande Trap & Skeet Club south of I-8 on Trekkle Rd. They usually shoot at 10:00 or 11:00, on Thursday or Saturday, but any day except Wednesday might be available. If you are interested please sign up on the sheet in the CH kitchen hallway. Sunscape no longer has a burn pile. Please put your debris in the appropriate dumpster. Plant material and other large items should go in the large roll-on dumpster. Park Party Garage Sale – Remember to donate your items. If you can’t sell it from your patio sale, drop it off at lot 269. No TV’s or electronics. Clean clothing please. If you would like to have a name put on the memorial boards, please fill out a request form and turn it in at the Activity Office. Forms are located on top of the cabinet right under the memorial boards Re-painting of the Christmas Yard Decorations and painting of the new Road Runners will be taking place on weekdays at 1 pm in the south end of the Maintenance Building. All help appreciated. Lost and found is at the Welcome Center Do you know the park has a Wii? If someone wanted to start a weekly/monthly wii sports activity, it’s available. See JoAnn in the Activity Office if interested. The local Cancer Support Center would like to get in touch with someone from Sunscape to run a fund raiser here. They offer many services for cancer patients from home delivery of meals, exercise classes, support groups and nutrition classes. All funds raised are for local use. Contact information for their community liaison available in the Activity Office. If you rinse out your metal food cans (not pop/beer cans), you can place them in the container by the pop can shed. Please do not put them in the chute for pop/beer cans. Pop/beer cans go in the aluminum can chute on the shed. All metal collected is hauled away and Sunscape gets cash in return so please save your metal cans and pop/beer cans for Sunscape. Please do not squeeze cans as it makes them harder to crush. The Architectural committee meets every other week on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm in the AC CO. If you have a request for a permit please sign up on the sheet provided outside of the room on the day of the meeting. Project Layout Forms for permits are available in the Welcome Center. Rules & Regulations are also available in the Welcome Center. Casa Grande area phone books are available in the CH. Attention Golfers: We need more golfers on Thursday each week at Arizona City. If we do not meet the minimum of 16 golfers each week, we will be in danger of losing all of our slots permanently. Sign up sheet is in the CH kitchen hallway. You must sign up by Monday night. The Sunscape Quilters meet Wednesday from 1 to 3 to prep or start items to be finished on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. On Wednesday park residents can use the machines in the AC CR on their own items. V.I.P. discount cards for area business are now available for sale by the Sunscape Singles. They are like the old kind we had before last year’s one. To use either the computers at other times see Billie Hering, lot 247. Sunscape’s Veterans Group is collecting used U.S. Flags. If you have a U.S. flag to retire from service, please drop it in the mailbox at lot 404 so it can be retired from service with honor and respect. You may also drop off any unused toiletries from motels/hotels. They will be delivered to our troops overseas. Check out the www.sunscapervresort.info website. The Veterans Group has its own section. If you were in the military and would like to share your story and have it posted on the website please email it to Dick & Lois Emmel at [email protected]. If you have posted “For Sale” or other cards on the cork board by the mailboxes, please take yours down if it is no longer applicable (item sold, item rented, etc.). All cards need to be initialed by the park manager or activity director before being placed on the board. Please take any ad that is no longer relevant in the “For Rent” or “For Sale” books in the CH. It’s up to the residents to keep these books current. Lost and Found is at the Welcome Center. Found items will be kept for two weeks and then taken to the Town Hall meeting. If not claimed there, they will be disposed of. The park has two nice grills. If you use one, please clean it and refill the propane tank when you are done. Friends Helping Friends is a park organization that assists park residents in need. They will accept any food or monetary donations and they offer an airport shuttle service for donations. Contact Mary Domejka at 520-840-5299 for more information. There are several donation boxes in the CH microwave cabinet just waiting for your donations. If you have cell phones, eyeglasses, Box Tops for Education, pop can tabs or stamps or coupons, drop them off in the cabinet. The REGIONAL FIRE AND RESCUE DEPARTMENT of Casa Grande is now responding to all medical and fire emergencies within the park. Dial 520-421-9957 for medical and fire emergencies. The Sunscape Emergency Response Team will be dispatched when you call this number. If you are planning on donating your aluminum pop and beer cans to the park, please do not put cigarette butts in the cans as they have to be cleaned out before they are crushed. Please put your aluminum cans in the can recycle containers in the AC, CH and by the dumpsters. Funds raised benefit the park. Fritters and donuts for sale for $1 every Friday morning from 7 to 9 a.m. in the CH. Join the Walk with Leslie Sansome aerobics exercise classes every weekday morning at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. in the AC. Exercise at your pace to make it high impact or low impact. Do you like to bowl? The Sunscape bowlers are looking for more people to join them every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Cottonwood Lanes. Just show up and join the fun! There are many games available for your use. Card and board games are found in the cabinet in the CH. Bean bag, holey board, bocce ball and ladder ball games are found in the equipment shed by the shuffleboard courts. Equipment for shuffleboard, pickleball and badminton are also in this shed. Check out the key for the equipment shed from the Activity Office. The multi-purpose courts are available for open play at any time until organized play begins later in the season. The Casa Grande Library Bookmobile stops at Sunscape on Fridays from 9 to 9:45. You can apply for a library card if you bring a photo ID and proof of local address. Sunscape Café meals: Supper will be served Monday night from 4:30 to 6:00. Sign up in the CH kitchen hallway as soon as possible since the sheet will be taken down after breakfast on Sunday. Dinner on February 2nd will be plate tacos. There will be a special Prime Rib or Shrimp dinner on February 7th. Cost is $16. Sign up ASAP and make it an early Valentine’s Day treat. Lunch is served on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Breakfast served from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays. Order lunch and breakfast from the menus, which can be found in the CH kitchen hallway. Wait staff needed for all meals.
