JANE FRANCES de CHANTAL CHURCH EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA FEBRUARY 8, 2015 My Dear Parishioners, In today’s Gospel reading, the evangelist Mark mentions a time when Jesus woke up early and went to a lonely place in order to pray. Prayer was a vital part of the life of Jesus and it was central in the lives of his followers as well. Jesus came to his heavenly Father with prayers of praise and thanksgiving, supplication and petition. In his teaching, Jesus asked his disciples to pray in simplicity of heart with a childlike confidence. He asked them to come to God with all of their needs, and he urged them to persevere in their prayer and not to give up. Prayer should be a daily part of all of our lives. We can call upon God using the formal prayers that have been taught to us by the Church, or in the informal prayers of our heart. Our recitations of the rosary, our praying the psalms and other standard prayers, our meditating upon God’s Word are all meant to lead us into deeper prayer. Prayer is a means of uniting ourselves more closely with our Savior, Jesus Christ. The foundation of prayer must always be humility, the deep recognition of our need for God and for the gift of his redemption. As we come together this week to offer God praise and worship in the Liturgy, perhaps we might take the time to reflect upon the place of prayer in our lives. Do I really make the time to pray, or is prayer mainly something that is confined only to church? Do I draw my strength from prayer, and do I have the faith to allow the Lord to direct me in my choices and decisions? Am I sincere in my prayer, trusting that the Lord knows what is best for me? As a model for prayer, we look to the prayer of our Lord Jesus himself. He trusted in God as a loving Father, seeking always his will. He taught us to turn to our Father daily with the deepest needs of our hearts. May we learn to turn to him every day of our lives! Sincerely, Monsignor Radocha The Rosary is prayed 7:45 a.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The Chaplet of St. Michael is recited daily, Monday through Friday following the 8:15 a.m. Mass.
