It is time for Session 3 of our Tripp After School Program. This program is
for children in grades 1-4. It aims to expand on areas of learning that cannot
be fully explored within the regular school day. It is an opportunity for your
children to fill those unstructured after school hours with meaningful and
enjoyable activities that reinforce thinking skills as a way to have fun.
CLASSES:
Classes are offered Monday through Thursday from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm.
Students may register for one day up to all four days.
ATTENDANCE:
If your child is unable to attend a class, please email CHERI GIECEK at
[email protected] or send a note to school with your child excusing
your child from the class. This will ensure that your child is accounted for, as
attendance is taken at the beginning of each class. Your child’s safety is a
priority! A phone call will be made if your child is not present in class and I
have not been notified. If your child is in Girl Scouts, please email me or
write a note and let me know they will not be attending their after school
class!
REGISTRATION:
We will begin in-school registration on Friday, January 30th at 9:00 am.
Please complete the registration form and send it in with your child or email
your form to me at [email protected]. Registration is on a first come,
first serve basis.
IN ORDER FOR YOUR CHILD TO RECEIVE THE AFTER SCHOOL BUS,
YOU MUST REGISTER BY 4:00 PM, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH.
NO BUS REQUESTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THAT DAY.
GOING HOME:
No children will be allowed to walk home alone.
Children must either be picked up or ride the After School Bus.

CANCELLATIONS:
Parents must contact the director within the first week of classes in order to
cancel a class. Refunds will not be given after that time.
CLASS PROGRAM CONFIRMATIONS & PAYMENTS:
Class Program Confirmations will be sent via email. Please include your
email address on the Registration Form to receive your student’s
Confirmation. Once you receive your Program Confirmation, please send
in your prompt payment with the bottom portion of that form. Payment
is made to District 102. PAYMENT DEADLINE: 3/20/15.

This is for all families with students riding the bus after class.
All students scheduled to ride the bus at 4:30 pm MUST go home on the bus,
unless I am contacted BEFORE 3pm that day.

You MUST pick up your student at the front door of the school at
4:30 pm.
I am NOT able to release any student without a parent or guardian present.
There are NO crossing guards at 4:30 pm and NO school staff in the parking
lot directing children into cars.

GUITAR STARS
Monday
(Grades 2 - 4)
No previous knowledge of guitar or music is necessary.
Learning to play the guitar is fun! The children will learn the fundamentals
of guitar playing, including holding the guitar and pick, proper fret-hand
finger position, sight-reading, playing by ear and playing basic songs. Also, as
the children progress, they will have the opportunity to test for "Guitar
Belts", a fun motivational system patterned after martial arts. Returning
students will be taught chords and other harmony parts to accompany the
class. Returning students will also be taught "blues" scales and will be
encouraged to improvise with these scales. Each child will receive a
participation award and guitar-related prizes on the last day of the session.
NOTE: A GUITAR IS REQUIRED. A basic, inexpensive guitar can be

AMAZING ART
Monday
Amazing Art combines all your favorite art projects and mixed media in this
unique class. Kids will make Tie Dye shirts (art smocks for the session),
experience pottery painting, create fired ceramic arts, paint a canvas acrylic
painting, make recycled art projects and more. Lessons will include concepts
and techniques kids can use for a lifetime and the experience of creating
awesome projects that will result in great self-esteem and a sense of
accomplishment. Finished works will be taken home immediately.

Calling all first and second graders! Come on an incredible journey with
Amazing Minds after school. Explore topics such as countries near and far,
land and water animals, science experiments, Native Americans and more!!
Build a New York landmark collection filled with souvenirs, learn how to make
water change color and get your fingerprints taken. Learn to use tools that
help you solve problems such as calculators, magnifying glasses, microscopes,
tape measures and scales. Engage in science experiments where you dissect
owl pellets, wear prism glasses, and make raisins bounce. Top it all off with
exciting take home prizes such as rubber snakes and shark teeth. Come and
exercise your brain!

SPANISH CLUB

Learning Spanish is as easy as uno, dos, tres! In Afterschool Amigos Spanish
Club, children will learn numbers, colors, shapes, greetings, days of the week
and more. We will be singing, clapping, and counting our way towards learning
the Spanish language. Each child will receive a participation award and there
will be a fiesta on the last day of the session.

Chess Scholars presents a professional chess program consisting of a
structured teaching period and practice time.
Both beginner and
experienced players are welcome and will receive the appropriate level of
instruction. Each participant will receive a chess set and a trophy or medal.

Scholars has trained several state and national champions. Additional

Students will have the opportunity to learn, practice, write, & read cursive

skills with creative writing, creating cards, and calligraphy! We will also read
Muggie Maggie, which is a novel about a young girl who finds out that cursive
is fun! Whether you just want to improve your cursive handwriting, or if
you're a beginner, this class is perfect for you.

math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-ofthe-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps.

Students will play with legos in imaginative ways. They will build a Lego city,
buildings and houses. Students will build with a variety of Legoland pieces

LEGO MACHINES & ROBOTS

2nd through 4th grade students will become Masters of LEGO by building
exciting projects like a power car, windmill, sweeper and many more. They
will test and explore machines and mechanisms, investigate motorized
machines, capture wind, study gearing mechanisms, alternative energy and
more. In the robotics part of the class children will be working with motors,
motion, tilt sensors and sounds by using software on our computers.
Students will build a firm base of understanding from which to expand their
robotics learning. All models are for in class use only. Students can take
pictures of the projects they completed.

“LET’S BUILD IT!” - ENGINEERING

Energy and power engineering is a field that combines math, chemistry and
physics for the production of efficient energy. Students will design, build
and test various forms of energy needed to do work. Students will
experiment with wind, electricity, light and motion to generate power. No
previous experience is necessary, just a desire to learn and build. Projects
will include: Wind turbines, catapults, electric motors, gyroscopes and more!

Mad Science is back with one of our favorite series of fun, spectacular,
hand-on science experiments! Some of the cool, new, hands-on science

Each young scientist will be able to make some fun take home projects too
including: A fun movie effect, a propeller driven car and many others. All
materials are included and instructors are provided by Mad Science of
Northern Illinois.

ART FOR THE

Young artists will create original art using a variety of materials. Classes will
focus on the use of many different types of materials and art utensils,
including: Papermaking, clay, watercolors, paints, oil pastels, scissors, glue,
popsicle sticks, found objects, 3D art and others. This class will help your
child to develop his or her creative skills in design and color, and practical
skills in pasting and cutting. All children who love to have fun with art will

Want to be healthy and learn about nutrition? This class is for you!
Learning about nutrition early and often is the key to developing healthy
eating habits. Have fun participating in cross-curricular activities featuring
the MY PLATE food guide, label reading, calculating calories, nutrition,
calculating heart rates, fitness and much more. This class will weave
nutrition education with math, language arts, physical education and health.

On the first day of class students will be given a list of novels to choose
from. The most popular choice will be ordered for the following weeks’
lessons. The cost of the class includes the book. Each week students will be
assigned weekly reading assignments. In class, we will complete fun
activities and games that focus on the literacy elements and reading
comprehension skills. One novel will be chosen for Grades 1-2 and a
different novel will be chosen for Grades 3-4.

Learn how to paint using simple shapes, animals, bugs, objects of nature and

The spring season is an exciting time to be a part of Young Rembrandts.
Springtime is all about vibrant colors, and our colorful drawings are
guaranteed to capture your attention. Students will learn how to think
outside of the box as they create stylized drawings of flowers and snails.
