Our nursing team members are able to participate in Jupiter Medical Center’s Nursing Clinical Excellence Program (NCEP) for Registered Nurses—a voluntary program that recognizes and rewards full time and part time bedside or direct care nurses who contribute more than expected. Team member satisfaction also is an important aspect of patient care. When team members participate in the operations of the Medical Center, they help generate positive outcomes for patients and the organization. Shared Governance is one way team members have a voice in plans and decision-making to help support Jupiter Medical Center's goal to transform the delivery of world-class care for our community. The Leadership Institute, a succession planning program that aligns talent development with future leadership needs at Jupiter Medical Center, graduated its first wave of leaders in 2014. Two of the graduates were promoted to executive positions—one to executive director, and another to vice president. Being tapped for the Leadership Institute is a privilege. The Executive Team extends invitations to team members who have high performance and productivity levels, outstanding engagement in their work, and a commitment to our mission, among other qualities. The new Leadership Institute fosters professional growth and rewards team members who have the heart and the will to succeed in our mission. In addition to exchanging ideas through Shared Governance, Relationship Based Care (RBC) is an operational model that Jupiter Medical Center employs to improve quality, patient satisfaction, and staff satisfaction by improving every relationship within an organization. Since 2011, team members have been given training and a nurturing forum to focus on themselves and their team members through Reigniting the Spirit of Caring (RSC) retreats. These three-day seminars engage, renew, and unify staff from all disciplines within the Medical Center. Since inception, more than 1,000 team members have been trained in RSC seminars. PHYSICIANS Jupiter Medical Center has found strong partners in our physicians—partnerships to stimulate progress that will further our mission to deliver excellent and compassionate healthcare advancing the well-being of the people we serve. Multi-Specialty Physician Group Practice In FY2014, Jupiter Medical Center focused on growing its multi-specialty physician group practice, Jupiter Medical Specialists, LLC —a joint venture between Jupiter Medical Center and Sheridan™ Healthcare, Inc., initially established in 2013. The vision is to provide the foundation for the integrated delivery and coordination of care for patients within our community. Currently six physicians are employed by Jupiter Medical Specialists, with several more in the process of joining our specialty group. Orthopedic Co-Management Agreement Model Furthering our focus on quality and growth, we partnered with our orthopedic surgeons to create an orthopedic co-management agreement model, which has realized significant improvements in outcomes, service and cost. Our orthopedic surgeons work together to enhance the orthopedic patient’s experience before, during and after care. The Orthopedic Management Company, LLC, is co-chaired by Gary Ackerman, M.D. and Michael Leighton, M.D. Physician Perception Survey Additional 2014 Highlights: We continue to build physician partnerships and work through physician alignment strategies to allow us to consider specific needs that provide physicians the resources to best care for their patients. In the 4th quarter of FY2014, a Physician Perception Survey was conducted by Professional Research Consultants (PRC) and completed by 160 Jupiter Medical Center physicians. These assessments provide valuable information to help us maintain momentum for future growth. Raymond Tan, M.D. was named Physician of the Year (FY2013) at Jupiter Medical Center’s annual General Medical Staff Meeting. Team member nominations touted Dr. Tan as “Caring, thorough and a great communicator”; “Compassionate for his patients and great at his specialty”; “Always on top of his patients’ care”. In FY2014, Frank Cook, M.D., was posthumously named Physician of the Year. Anthony E. Addesa, M.D. was named Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Jupiter Medical Center’s Foshay Cancer Center. Several “Excellent” percentile rankings increased from the previous 2008 Physician Perception Survey. Nursing Care was rated in the 90th percentile, a significant leap from the 60th percentile in the 2008 survey. An increase also showed in the perception of Laboratory Services ranking from 80th percentile (2008) to 92nd percentile (2014). Other areas with excellent results include Place to Practice, Quality, Emergency Services, Pathology Services, and more. S. Raymond Golish, M.D., Ph.D. was named Medical Director for the Clinical Trials Program. Dedicated, expert physicians at Jupiter Medical Center now total 554, representing over 40 different specialties. 3 JUPITER MEDICAL CENTER NURSING Quality nursing is a critical component of a patient’s hospital experience and an essential element to good patient outcomes. Jupiter Medical Center nurses are leaders in pioneering positive change and safeguarding the wellbeing of our patients and our entire community. A testament to their commitment, Jupiter Medical Center patients consistently rate our nursing care at the highest levels in skill and compassion. EXECUTIVE TEAM It was a banner year for Jupiter Medical Center President and CEO John Couris. Last year, he was presented the Health Care/ Science Professional Award at the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches’ Annual Business Awards Breakfast. This recognition is presented to a professional who has been in the industry for at least five years, has demonstrated a commitment to community involvement and has displayed excellence in his or her area of expertise beyond the scope of job expectations. In addition, he was recognized with the 11th Annual Bruce Rendina Professional Hero Award at the Palm Beach County Medical Society’s Heroes in Medicine Awards. The Bruce Rendina Professional Hero Award is meant to honor an individual whose profession is an integral part of the health care system but is not a direct provider of patient care, and who demonstrates a desire and willingness to use his knowledge and abilities to improve the health of the local, national and global communities. Further, he was recognized as an Ultimate CEO in Palm Beach County by the South Florida Business Journal, and was named a Corporate Star by the Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches – Palm Beach Gardens campus. Our CEO is backed by an equally strong team of leaders. Thomas Crawford, VP, Chief Information Officer (CIO), was named CIO of the Year by the South Florida Business Journal. MEDICAL CENTER TEAM MEMBERS Easy ID Recognizing Jupiter Medical Center team members came easier in 2014 with a new uniform policy. Jupiter Medical Center implemented a color-coded standardized uniform policy in an effort to help patients and family members easily identify clinical staff. Team members in each clinical area participated through a voting process to select the color choice for their area to signify their specific discipline. Non-clinical team members, including the executive team, also participate by wearing logoed apparel on Fridays. Our team members have welcomed the new uniform policy, understanding the affect it has on our patients and families. Patients are always at the heart of the actions of our team members. Team Member of the Year: Medical Center SARAH RAHILLY Physical Therapy Assistant “She’s an individual who says how can I help you, how can I support you, how can I provide you the world-class care that you deserve? There is a delicate balance to be struck to ensure success. It takes healthcare professionals who are committed to a clear vision—a shared purpose. They must also be comfortable with innovation and action. This year, we aligned with several partners who share in our philosophy and our commitment to world-class quality. Miami Children’s Hospital Mandel Jewish Community Center Phase I of Jupiter Medical Center’s partnership with Miami Children’s Hospital is well underway and includes the implementation of telehealth technology in Jupiter Medical Center’s Emergency Room, whereby ER doctors have the ability to consult in realtime with expert pediatric physicians at Miami Children’s Hospital. In addition, a pediatric emergency specialist is on site in our Emergency Room during peak hours, and a second will be added in 2015. We are also now able to offer pediatric MRI services. By working together, Jupiter Medical Center and Miami Children’s Hospital are enhancing the world-class pediatric clinical services and programs currently offered to the community. Jupiter Medical Center’s partnership with the Mandel Jewish Community Center (JCC) of the Palm Beaches enhances our ability to provide highly personalized health, wellness and fitness programs out in the community. Since 2010, Miami Children’s Hospital has been striving to meet the ever-growing pediatric needs in Palm Beach County thanks to the generosity and partnership with The Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. Both entities joined forces out of a shared mission to enhance access to the pediatric specialists and services families seek in times of need. Now, this partnership is facilitating further growth in Jupiter. We look forward to our ongoing collaboration with Miami Children’s and the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation as we explore additional expansion of medical services, furthering our commitment to our youngest community members and their parents to deliver worldclass healthcare right in their own backyard. University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Last year, Jupiter Medical Center partnered with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to provide clinical rotations for the Medical School’s third and fourth year medical students. Students rotate throughout the obstetrics unit, shadowing physicians in 5-6 week rotations. To date, 22 students have rotated through the program. As the exclusive healthcare partner at the JCC’s Palm Beach Gardens campus, Jupiter Medical Center has provided a full-time, certified, onsite health education specialist who serves as a dedicated resource for members’ health and wellness needs. She helps adults create wellness action plans, keeps them on track with their health goals and, should the need arise, acts as a liaison to the wealth of clinical resources available through Jupiter Medical Center. Jupiter High School’s Jupiter Medical Center Academy Jupiter High School students interested in a health career participate in the Jupiter Medical Center Academy that provides access and insight into the healthcare industry. The Academy fosters development of leadership skills, personal growth, and essential skills required for career success. Acting as a stepping stone to a career in health, the program broadens learning opportunities and reflects the diverse areas in health occupations. Students rotate through various departments of the Medical Center throughout the year to shadow physicians and team members, and learn about the clinical offerings of the Medical Center. 5 JUPITER MEDICAL CENTER WORLD-CLASS QUALITY Not only is our team world-class, our quality is world-class, as well. Jupiter Medical Center is proud to be designated a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by the Joint Commission, the independent organization that accredits and certifies healthcare providers across the country. This recognition is based on data reported about clinical processes that are proven to be the best treatments for certain conditions. Once again, Jupiter Medical Center has excelled in care for heart attack, pneumonia, surgery, and heart failure. As a Joint Commission-accredited hospital, Jupiter Medical Center’s Board Quality Committee ensures the hospital is diligent in its compliance with national core measure indicators. For the third consecutive year, Jupiter Medical Center reached 99% and above on composite scores in several categories of patient care: Heart Failure Surgical Care Improvement Project Acute Myocardial Infarction Pneumonia Venous Thromboembolism Stroke Infection Rates Mortality Ratios We are also proud to report that Jupiter Medical Center has had zero hospital-acquired infections for the entire FY2014, compared to a total of six cases the previous year. This is critically important not only for the safety of our patients but because Medicare is now handing down financial penalties tied to infection rates. One of the clearest measures of our quality is our mortality ratios. The government compares patients’ actual mortality rates to their expected mortality rates, based on the severity of illness. Jupiter Medical Center is ranked in the 96th percentile in the state and the 97th percentile in the nation for risk adjusted mortality. Overall Patient Satisfaction Additional Quality Measures Jupiter Medical Center’s high quality ratings resonate in our patients’ satisfaction with their care. In fact, Jupiter Medical Center is ranked the number one hospital in Likelihood to Recommend and number one in the Overall Rating for patient satisfaction in Palm Beach and Martin Counties as reported by CMS (2013). In addition, we saw an overall vaccination rate increase from 98% to 99% (includes pneumococcal at 99.8% for FY2014 and influenza at 98.4% for the 2013-14 flu season). Outpatient quality indicator composite scores also are hitting world-class benchmark status with AMI/Chest Pain at 100% and Outpatient Surgery holding at 99.4%. Quality & Safety Data Jupiter Medical Center is proud of its medical excellence achievements as reported through CareChex by Comparion, an independent company reporting quality and safety data. We are also proud to report that the facility was one of 77 centers nationwide to receive the 2014 Silver Achievement in Quality Award from AHCA and the National Center for Assisted Living for serving as a model of excellence in providing high-quality long term care. STAR QUALITY RATING Other Awards and Accomplishments We have many other great accolades to be proud of for a number of our service lines within the hospital, including: Re-accreditation by the Joint Commission for Total Joint Replacement for Hips, Knees and Shoulders Re-accreditation of our Stroke program by the Joint Commission The American College of Radiology designated Jupiter Medical Center an Image Gently site for pediatric imaging and Image Wisely facility for radiation reduction in imaging Our Stroke Program received the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award Re-accreditation of our Lab Services by the American Association of Blood Banks Re-accreditation of our Diabetes Education program by the American Diabetes Association CMS named Jupiter Medical Center as a Mentor Hospital Our Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence became an American College of Radiology designated Lung Cancer Screening Center and has also been named a Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance Quality Core Measures 94.6% 98.7% 100% 99.0% 96.9% 97.2% 99.5% 99.7% 100% 100% 100% 95% 95% 95% 90% 90% 90% 85% 85% 85% 80% 80% 80% 2011 2012 2013 2014 2011 Acute Myocardial Infarction 99.2% 99.4% 99.9% 2012 2013 2014 99.6% 79.7% 88.4% 96.0% 99.3% 100% 95% 95% 95% 90% 90% 90% 85% 85% 85% 80% 80% 80% 2013 2014 Surgical Care Improvement Project 98.9% 98.9% 2011 2012 2013 2014 Pneumonia 100% 2012 98.5% Heart Failure 100% 2011 96.7% 2011 2012 2013 2014 Venous Thromboembolism 97.8% 98.6% 99.2% 99.6% 2011 2012 2013 2014 Stroke 7 JUPITER MEDICAL CENTER PATIENT SATISFACTION Awards from the government and accrediting bodies are meaningful because they affirm we are providing care of the highest quality. But an equally important measure of our performance is our own patients’ evaluation of the care they received. Delivering world-class patient satisfaction requires the involvement and commitment of team members at every level of the organization. Our teams work hard to deliver care that surpasses expectations. Our Service Excellence Committee creates and implements new strategies to ensure patients are receiving the best possible experience. This year, Jupiter Medical Center ranked in the 95th percentile for inpatient likelihood to recommend — our highest score to date. Also impressive is our ranking in the 94th percentile for likelihood to recommend our emergency services. In fact, Jupiter Medical Center is the #1 Hospital in Likelihood to Recommend and #1 in Overall Patient Satisfaction in Palm Beach and Martin counties as reported by CMS (2013). Walsh Robotic Surgery Program Our Walsh Robotic Surgery Program, under the medical direction of Donna Pinelli, M.D., has seen impressive growth in just a few short years. Last year, due to increasing demand from patients and our physicians, we added a second robot. The da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System is the next frontier for minimally-invasive surgery, offering highly-magnified 3D HD vision, wristed instruments that bend and rotate far beyond the human hand, Intuitive® Motion technologies that allow the surgeon to operate with steady, natural movement; and enhanced ergonomics—all helping surgeons to deliver unparalleled precision. Jupiter Medical Center is one of the first facilities in the world to possess this technology. Four years ago, only two surgeons at Jupiter Medical Center operated with the robot—Donna Pinelli, M.D., Medical Director of the Robotic Surgery Program, and K. Adam Lee, M.D., Medical Director of the Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence. Today, 22 Jupiter Medical Center surgeons use the da Vinci surgical robots for a variety of specialties including thoracic, urologic, colorectal, gynecologic and general surgery. And, more than 1,000 patients have received treatment with this remarkable technology that results in less invasive surgery, less pain, blood loss, and scarring, lower risk of infection, shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery. Our surgeons are at the forefront of using robotics to advance minimally invasive surgery. Jupiter Medical Center was the first facility in Florida to offer robotic thoracic surgery and robotic gynecologic surgery using the new da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System. The lung procedure was performed by Dr. Lee and the gynecologic procedure was performed by Dr. Pinelli. In addition, Dr. Pinelli performed Palm Beach County’s first single-site gynecologic surgery. During this cutting-edge procedure, the surgeon uses the robotic technology to work through the natural folds of the belly button, leaving no visible scar. This single-site technique can be used to perform hysterectomies and in the removal of the ovaries and gallbladder. Cardiology Services In FY2014, we did a great deal to advance heart care, here at home. Under the medical direction of Gonzalo Loveday, M.D., we added a second high tech cardiac catheterization lab, which utilizes the latest technology. This includes the Philips AlluraClarity with ClarityIQ technology interventional x-ray system, and “Vision Screen” capability that allows the doctors to see the flow of blood through coronary arteries to detect blockages. The lab is also equipped and state-certified to perform interventional procedures such as balloon angioplasty and coronary stents to open blocked arteries. In the past, heart patients had to travel to other hospitals for catheterization. Now those procedures can be done at Jupiter Medical Center with a team of board certified cardiologists and interventional cardiologists. Our goal is to continue to grow our cardiac services with additional advanced cardiac procedures. We are incredibly proud of the cardiology team we have in place, the program we have built, and the excellent quality and patient satisfaction ratings we have achieved. A N N UA L 201 4 REP O RT Clinical Research Researchers across the nation work every day to find new and better ways to treat and cure disease, and improve the health of patients. The Clinical Trials Program at Jupiter Medical Center, under the medical direction of S. Raymond Golish, M.D., Ph.D., Chair of the Institutional Review Board, offers new hope through clinical trials. These studies may include new forms of treatment, methods of prevention, ways of screening for diseases, or ways to improve comfort and quality of life for patients. All of today’s most effective treatments are based on the results of past clinical trials. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews all the clinical research protocols to ensure patient rights are maintained. To date there have been more than 200 clinical trials with 15 open trials currently available through Jupiter Medical Center. Clinical trials offered at Jupiter Medical Center include oncology-related studies, disease-specific trials such as stroke and infectious disease studies, surgery studies, bio specimen trials, research testing hyperbaric oxygen therapy and disease prevention trials. KineSpring Knee Implant Jupiter Medical Center partnered with local orthopedic surgeons, Matthew Stiebel, M.D. and Gary Ackerman, M.D. in the KineSpring clinical trial in FY2014. The purpose of this research study is to test if the KineSpring implantable device is safe and provides relief of knee pain caused by osteoarthritis, improving knee function thereby decreasing the need for painkillers and steroid injections. Xeno 01 Last year, Jupiter Medical Center partnered with Scripps Florida, a division of The Scripps Research Institute, to study surgical tissue specimens of the breast and the lung. Led by principal investigator Paul Garen, M.D., research scientists at Scripps Florida will analyze the tissue from the biopsy to learn more about cancer mutations affecting DNA, RNA and protein expression in tumors. There is great potential for future cancer treatments that may someday benefit patients. Results from the trial will help the medical community better understand how therapies work and how to most effectively manage and treat cancers. Joe Namath Neurological Research Center Last year, Jupiter Medical Center received FDA approval to open a clinical research trial that aims to help combat the debilitating effects of traumatic brain injury (TBI), which affects 1.7 million Americans each year and is a major cause of death and disability worldwide. Under the leadership of co-medical directors Barry Miskin, M.D., Principle Investigator and Lee Fox, M.D., Sub-Investigator, the clinical trial seeks to reverse the damage resulting from head trauma and improve the quality of life for those affected by TBI. The program, named after Joe Namath, the legendary New York Jets quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Fame member, tests the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to determine if oxygenation can stimulate the healing process of the brain. After extensive neurological examination and cognitive tests, it was revealed that Mr. Namath was suffering from TBI and he decided to undergo HBO therapy. Dr. Miskin designed a customized treatment regimen for Mr. Namath. Imaging and cognition tests were repeated periodically and revealed steady progress; areas of his brain that had appeared “dark” in initial scans began to show new neurological activity. The exciting results showed that Mr. Namath’s brain was beginning to show signs of recovery. Mr. Namath shared his personal story about his health issues to help raise awareness, funds and widespread support for targeted research into a potential new treatment for TBI. Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence Jupiter Medical Center’s Thoracic Surgery & Lung Center of Excellence has been singled out as a world-class leader by Veran Medical Technologies. Jupiter Medical Center is one of only seven hospitals in the nation to be named a Veran Center of Excellence, putting us in the company of esteemed institutions like The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Under the medical direction of K. Adam Lee, M.D., the Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center Excellence was the first in the nation with Veran™ Medical Technologies Total Navigation Oncology Solution. This comprehensive technology enables easier navigation to lung, liver and kidney biopsies—allowing for early detection and diagnosis of cancer. As a Center of Excellence, Jupiter Medical Center is now a designated teaching hub. Doctors from across the nation travel to Jupiter Medical Center to study our physicians performing procedures using Veran equipment. Others watch via webcast. In addition, physicians and administrators from hospitals across the country visit our Center of Excellence so that they can model their own programs after ours. The combination of top physicians, staff and leading-edge technology allows us to formulate a world-class facility here at Jupiter Medical Center. This is exhibited over and over with great outcomes from procedures, the ability to teach at the hospital, and by keeping the facility up-to-date with the most advanced equipment. Our program is truly comprehensive – combining a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, navigation, research, technology, survivorship and surgeon skill with the patient at the center of the care. 11 JUPITER MEDICAL CENTER THE FLORENCE A. De GEORGE PAVILION We've made significant progress in the construction of the Florence A. De George Pavilion, our new $46 million, 85,268 square foot, three-story tower. The new facility will house The Caring MRI Suite, where patients can set up personalized music, lighting and visuals for the room—a definite advantage for patients who experience stress in confined spaces. Kristin Hoke Breast Health Program Jupiter Medical Center’s Kristin Hoke Breast Health Program, under the medical direction of John A.P. Rimmer, M.D., enhanced its already world-class Comprehensive Breast Program with the purchase of the Liac 12 Mobile Electron Beam IntraOperative Radiation Therapy (e-IORT) system. This new method of delivering radiation in the operating room immediately after a tumor is removed is offered in just a handful of hospitals across the country, and, in some cases, can reduce weeks of radiation treatment down to a single dose. The benefits of e-IORT include reduced radiation exposure, lessened treatment time, and a faster return to a normal quality of life. e-IORT allows radiation and surgical oncologists to visually see the exact area they need to radiate and the use of electron beams protects the body from unnecessary radiation to healthy tissue. In addition to the clear health benefits of this cutting-edge treatment, it also offers a better cosmetic result with no fibrosis, scarring, or hardening of the skin or other tissues. At the end of the day, it translates into excellent outcomes for our patients and our community as a whole. Pain Management One of our goals in interventional pain medicine is to develop new ways of treating pain. The treatment of osteoarthritis of the knees and hips is one such therapy. Last year, our Pain Management team introduced a new procedure called cooled radiofrequency ablation. When focused on the knees and hips, this is a minimally-invasive, safe, effective way of controlling pain. Radiofrequency is a means of stopping nerve impulse transmission, resulting in a significant decrease in knee or hip pain. A N N UA L 201 4 REP O RT Imaging Services Lighthouse Detox Today, many conditions can be addressed without surgery by interventional radiologists with treatments that offer less risk, less pain and less recovery time when compared to traditional surgery. That’s why Jupiter Medical Center recently opened a new state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology Suite. Using the latest imaging technology, our team, led by Chief of Radiology Lee Fox, M.D., threads narrow tubes (catheters) and other small instruments into the body through the blood vessels and other pathways to diagnose and non-surgically treat disease at the source. Interventional Radiology techniques can be used to treat vascular disease, to eradicate cancer cells and can even be applied in the treatment of spinal fractures. Additionally, interventional radiology procedures rarely require general anesthesia or hospitalization, and often involve less pain and smaller incisions than traditional surgery. Last year, Jupiter Medical Center opened the Lighthouse Detox Center — a premier destination for medically-supervised alcohol and substance detoxification. The Center, led by Amir Lubarsky, M.D., offers residents a powerful combination of therapies, including the most advanced medical treatments along with compassionate care and emotional support. Patients admitted to the state-of-the-art, 15-bed facility are monitored around-the-clock by a medical team to ensure their withdrawal is as safe and as comfortable as possible. In the event of a complication, our center is backed by the full resources of Jupiter Medical Center. This offers residents an added level of safety during this vulnerable time. Designed to offer a resort-like setting, the facility includes three concierge bedrooms, four private rooms and four semiprivate rooms. The large, luxurious center includes a library, a massage room and space for yoga classes. Concierge services available upon request include massage therapy, neuro feedback, acupuncture, and room service. Rehabilitation and Wellness Under the medical direction of Frank DeLucia, M.D., Jupiter Medical Center’s Rehabilitation and Wellness Program experienced tremendous growth last year. In particular, the program saw an increase in the number of corporations participating in the Corporate Wellness Program, which provides for the employee health needs of employers throughout the region. Our team works closely with our clients to promote a healthy lifestyle which emphasizes the importance of prevention. The program brings biometric screenings, health lectures, and nutritional education to corporate employees in our community. Corporations have realized that an employee wellness program that incorporates the physical, financial, personal, and professional aspects of wellbeing can have a direct effect on employee morale, performance and productivity. Jupiter Medical Center is one of the official Medical Partners of D1 Athletic Training in Palm Beach Gardens, and opened an outpatient sports therapy center within the D1 facility. The goal is to focus on prevention and evaluation, and to help athletes with rehabilitation for sports-related injuries ensuring a safe and optimal return. Our new fully-functional outpatient physical therapy clinic within the D1 facility specializes in athletic injuries in a professional, motivating and sports-oriented environment. The convenience of providing training and therapy in the same location makes an efficient transition from rehabilitation back to training. CareServices Last year, we expanded our patient services to include CareServices, a new home health partnership with CareSouth Health System, Inc. The program, which has a goal of reducing readmission rates, allows patients to recover and rehabilitate in the comfort of their own homes after being discharged from the hospital. The program provides at-home services including nursing, home health aides, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social workers, registered dieticians, and home infusion services. Certified nursing assistants and personal care aides are also available. In-home care and hourly private duty care is also available to meet our patients’ specific needs. Concierge Program The Concierge Program offers the perfect combination for getting well—Jupiter Medical Center’s world-class clinical care delivered with all the amenities of a fine hotel. The new program was a tremendous success in FY2014, averaging 27 room nights each month. Our three Deluxe Suites are beautifully furnished and offer quality concierge services to enhance the hospital experience so patients can focus solely on recovery. Each newly renovated suite includes two rooms with overnight guest accommodations, well-appointed features, custom amenities, and a concierge service team member as a single point of contact. Concierge services at the facility, available upon request by any patient throughout the hospital, include salon services, massage therapy, acupuncture, nutrition consultation, transportation services and more. Looking ahead, an 8-bed concierge unit is in the planning phase for FY2015. 15 JUPITER MEDICAL CENTER GIVING WAYS Exceeding expectations, FY2014 proved to be an impactful year for the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, helping grow cardiology, oncology, digestive health and pediatrics, fueled by its members with help from friends of Jupiter Medical Center. Jupiter Medical Center Foundation achieved great financial success, contributing nearly $20 million in FY2014. We learned that through committed philanthropic efforts, we can continue to deliver exceptional care to those who place their trust in us and improve the health and wellness of our community. Delivering world-class healthcare does not come easy. It has been a long and challenging journey—one that we could not do without the substantial generosity of our friends and supporters. We are grateful for the many charitable gifts and the countless volunteer hours so selfishly bestowed upon us. With the help of our many friends, our future looks bright for a healthy and well community. The new Florence A. De George Pavilion is scheduled to open in January 2015, thanks to the many donors who have given gifts to support this new era of patient care at Jupiter Medical Center. Enhanced patient care and comfort is at the forefront of the more than 82,000 square foot Pavilion which will provide advanced obstetrics and orthopedic and spine services, featuring private spa-like patient rooms, a rehab gym and dining facilities. Thanks to the generosity of the Walsh family, the Medical Center established the Frank E. and Mary D. Walsh Robotic Surgery Program. It has been so successful, last year we acquired a second robot. Jupiter Medical Center is one of the first facilities in the world with the da Vinci® Xi™ system— technology that enables us to offer patients better outcomes. The philanthropic support of David and Lynn Nicholson made it possible to open a second cardiac catheterization lab. This investment in technology and talent means our community members can get state-ofthe-art heart care, closer to home. We established the Joe Namath Neurological Research Center and have begun an FDA-approved clinical trial to study if hyperbaric oxygen therapy can reverse the effects of traumatic brain injury. The Jupiter Medical Center Foundation is working with Mr. Namath to raise $10 million to ensure appropriate patients may receive this promising experimental therapy, regardless of ability to pay. We broke ground on the first phase of the oncology campus, the Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center. When complete, there will be nothing in our region like this center: 26,000 square feet dedicated to the most advanced imaging for women. The second phase will be the relocation of the Foshay Cancer Center. We’ll establish a new 75,000 square foot facility that will combine outstanding talent, technology and bright new hope for patients with all types of cancer. We brought a breakthrough in radiation treatment into the operating room. This new method of intraoperative radiation is offered in just a handful of hospitals across the country, and in some cases can reduce weeks of radiation treatment down to a single dose. This spring, Jupiter Medical Center will have the most advanced CyberKnife radiosurgery system in the Southeastern U.S. The CyberKnife® M6™ system is a non-invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of tumors in the body. Through a $250,000 donation to the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, The Auxiliary made it possible to relocate the Auxiliary Gift Shop to Jupiter Medical Center’s South Lobby. An unveiling and a Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held in January 2014. The Auxiliary is responsible for organizing more than 600 dedicated and passionate Jupiter Medical Center volunteers who contribute close to 100,000 hours a year – a donation in service of over $2 million a year. The Jupiter Medical Center Foundation once again was selected as the local partner with Saks Fifth Avenue Palm Beach Gardens for the 2014 Key To The Cure Charity Shopping Weekend. More than 400 people attended the kick- off event in October for a unique culinary and shopping affair. Proceeds from the spirited kick-off and four days of shopping that followed were donated by Saks Fifth Avenue Palm Beach Gardens to support the Electron IntraOperative Radiation Therapy mobile linear accelerator for the Foshay Cancer Center. More than 420 guests decked out in resort chic attire enjoyed a cocktail reception with island entertainment, gourmet buffet dinner and dancing at the Foundation’s Annual “Highballs & Hibiscus” event, at Frenchman’s Creek Country Club. The event raised more than $70,000 for pediatric wellness. The Foundation’s 38th Annual Ball brought Paris, the romantic City of Lights, to life. The PGA National Resort & Spa was transformed into “Le Soir Magnifique,” complete with mimes, walking chandeliers, and a French Chanteuse. The huge Eiffel Tower loomed over the dance floor as 400 guests entered the Grand Ballroom surrounded by famous French locations – The Gardens of Versailles, The Louvre and The Avenue des Champs-Élysées. An evening of delectable French cuisine, dancing and fun followed, all in an effort to raise funds for a Cardiac Electrophysiology Program at Jupiter Medical Center to diagnose and treat irregular heart rhythms. Since its inception, the Ball has raised more than $4.8 million. A N N UA L 201 4 REP O RT Golf Tournaments Golf tournaments are not just fun and games— but serious business when it comes to raising funds to support Jupiter Medical Center programs and services. Seven clubs participated in Tee Off for Jupiter Medical Center: Jupiter Hills Club Ladies’ Annual Golf Tournament, Fore! The Love of Pink, netted proceeds of more than $73,000 — a significant source of support for women’s cancer patients at Jupiter Medical Center. The Club at Admirals Cove 9 Hole Ladies’ Golf Association “Play Pink for JMC” Tournament raised an impressive $4,500 for the Kristin Hoke Breast Health Program. The Jonathan’s Landing Ladies 9-Hole Golf Association’s Annual Hope In Bloom Tournament exceeded the previous year for the fifth straight year, raising over $11,000 for the Kristin Hoke Breast Health Program. The Turtle Creek Women’s Golf Association held their sixth annual event in February with proceeds benefiting the Kristin Hoke Breast Health Program at Jupiter Medical Center. To date, over $14,500 has been raised by this philanthropic group of lady golfers. Ladies Golf Association at Jupiter Country Club dedicated their second Find-a-Cure Tournament to benefit The Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center at Jupiter Medical Center. The event, complete with raffles and a 50/50 drawing, raised more than $6,000. The Loxahatchee Club has once again shown a strong commitment to supporting Jupiter Medical Center with their January 2014 Annual Friends of Jupiter Medical Center Golf Tournament. This year more than $100,000 was raised for the Cardiac Electrophysiology Program at Jupiter Medical Center. The Third Annual Big Hearts of Little Club Tournament raised more than $16,000 and continues to impact cancer care for both men and women undergoing treatment at the Foshay Cancer Center. 17 OUR YEAR IN NUMBERS The commitment to fiscal responsibility and accountability from Jupiter Medical Center team members and physicians is to be commended. Jupiter Medical Center finished FY2014 strong for the fifth consecutive year with a positive net income for the entire organization of $2.1 million. A strategic focus on our Clinical Documentation Improvement Program increased the accuracy of documentation in the medical record. Accurately capturing the severity of illness of our patients improved our reimbursement by over $1.3 million. We also created labor productivity tools and increased accountability for our leaders, in addition to implementing a flexible workforce by moving some full time team members to per diem. Through this use of technology and increased accountability, labor costs decreased over $4 million. Adjusting our staffing to volume fluctuations also made a positive financial impact. The Jupiter Medical Center Supply Chain Value Analysis entered into a strategic partnership with a national Group Purchasing Organization (GPO), in addition to our current regional GPO. Concentration on savings initiatives to reduce costs and utilization of supplies and standardizing product purchases where we could, with no sacrifice to quality, resulted in a $1.2 million savings in FY2014. Looking ahead to FY2015, Jupiter Medical Center will remain focused on Clinical Documentation Improvement to increase revenue combined with focused efforts to make an impact on labor productivity, using our Lean program to eliminate variability and waste. Maximizing our relationship with our supply chain partners also is imperative to fiscal success.
