EuroNeuro is a biennial multidisciplinary meeting aimed at neurologists, neurosurgeons, (neuro-) intensivists, (neuro-) anaesthesiologists and basic neuroscientists, as well as neurocritical care nurses, anaesthesia nurses and other healthcare practitioners who care for patients with neurological diseases and brain injuries. Bringing together specialists and scientists with diverse backgrounds, EuroNeuro aims to broaden our understanding of the pathophysiology of, and therapeutic modalities for, those conditions. Each session is organized by representatives of at least two different specialties, ensuring that the topics will be of interest to physicians, researchers and nurses with different backgrounds. The idea for EuroNeuro as a multidisciplinary platform for dissemination of scientific ‘neuro’-related research and as a collaborative meeting was first conceived by Drs Cathy de Deyne, Rene Heylen and Raf de Jongh from the East Limburg Hospital in Genk, Belgium. The first EuroNeuro meeting was held in Genk in February 1998. It was a success, with more than 1100 attendees from across Europe and the USA. The second meeting in 2000 was again held in Genk and drew even more attendees, who had heard enthusiastic accounts of the first meeting from their colleagues. Subsequent EuroNeuro meetings – equally well-attended and successful – were held in Munich, Germany (2002), Cambridge, UK (2005), Maastricht, The Netherlands (2008), Porto, Portugal (2010), Vienna, Austria (2012) and Istanbul, Turkey (2014). Each meeting had its unique local character, yet at the same time emphasized the importance of European collaboration. However, Euro-Neuro is not just Euro: speakers and delegates come from many different countries, including those outside of Europe, making it a truly international event where networking proves to be very efficient. Barcelona is Spain’s second largest city. It is located by the Mediterranean coast, 120 km south of France - having one of the most important ports in this area. It has hosted many international events like Universal Exhibition (1888), International Exhibition (1929), Olympic Games (1992), and Universal Forum of Cultures (2004). Currently, Barcelona is recognized as a ‘global city’ for its cultural, financial, commercial and tourist importance, enjoying a very mild climate. It is an excellent place to sample food and wine. The town also offers a lively nightlife, mostly in the old city center.
