January 27, 2015 For Immediate Release 2014 Don Hansen All-Super Region Two Team Hibbett, Botts, Strohman, Freeman, Hall Earn Top Regional Honors BROOKFIELD, Ill. — The Don Hansen Football Committee has released the 2014 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Two squad today (Jan. 26). Carson-Newman running back Andy Hibbett, a finalist for the 2014 Harlon Hill Trophy, was named the Super Region Two Offensive Player of the Year, while Lenoir-Rhyne linebacker Tanner Botts was selected the Defensive Player of the Year. North Carolina-Pembroke return specialist L.J. Strohman garnered Special Teams Player of the Year honors, while Fort Valley State wide receiver Drelon Freeman received Freshman of the Year honors. West Georgia head coach Will Hall, who guided the Wolves to a 12-3 record and a berth in the 2014 NCAA Division II National Semifinals, was named the Super Region Two Coach of the Year. Hibbett, a senior from Corryton, Tenn., rushed for 1,391 yards (139.1 ypg) and 16 TDs, while catching 11 passes for 192 yards and two score. Botts, a senior from Lawrenceville, Ga., tallied 89 tackles, including 11.5 tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks. Strohman, a senior from Hamlet, N.C., led NCAA Division II in kickoff returns (35.0 ypr) and ranked 13th nationally in punt returns (13.9 ypr). Freeman, from Columbus, Ga., caught 33 passes for 720 yards (21.8 ypc) and 11 touchdowns. In his first season as head coach of the Wolves, Hall guided his team to a 9-2 regular season mark at UWG’s first postseason berth in 15 years. His squad posted three straight road wins in the playoffs before falling, 107, to eventual national champion Colorado State-Pueblo in the semifinals. The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen’s Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003. The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2014 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named in February. South Atlantc Conference champion Lenoir-Rhyne led the way with 10 honorees, while Gulf South Conference members North Alabama (8), Delta State (7) and West Georgia (7) all garnered seven or more honorees.
