One of the most difficult duties of a disciple is to follow the
command of Jesus to spread the gospel to all nations. (Lk 24:47,
Mk 116:15, Mt 28:19) I think one reason may be that we don’t
feel we have the authority to tell someone else what to believe.
Most of us don’t think we know the gospel well enough to
preach it. Or we are so afraid of offending atheists, that we use
that fear as an excuse to say nothing. But being a disciple means
following Jesus. The gospel this Sunday mentions twice that
Jesus taught with more authority than any of religious leaders
of Israel. So how can we get such authority?
First, Jesus didn’t get his authority from winning a Messiah
election. And he didn’t threaten people with thunderbolts and
lightning. He certainly didn’t impress people by saying what
they wanted to hear. He spoke the truth that he heard from his
Father. His two main actions in his ministry were curing and
forgiving people. Since the Jews thought sickness was a punishment for sins, by curing the sick and forgiving sins, Jesus
showed that God loves even sinners. And those actions showed
that Jesus got authority from his Father.
How do we get that authority?. We get it from the Holy Spirit, in
Baptism and Confirmation. And like an athlete, who may be
born with strength and abilities, yet has to work-out and practice to be any good, we still need to grow in that authority. One
way is to read the scriptures and pray with them, so that we get
to know God through his Word and begin to listen to him in our
prayers. We can consciously decide to see God in other people,
not just those we love, but everyone, even the ones who annoy
us. (And especially the ones who challenge us to be more loving,
patient and forgiving.) Most parishes have programs that encourage sharing your faith, such as RCIA, the Eucharist and
other sacraments strengthen God’s life in us. You’ll know you
have that authority when you can talk about your faith with
confidence instead of hesitation, because you will be speaking
from experience, not second hand knowledge.
THANK YOU!
Thanks to all speakers: Mrs Wessels, Mrs. Wojcik and Mrs.
Vazquez, and many, many others for an excellent presentation
about OLGC Grade School last weekend.
As a parish we can be proud of our School in our faith efforts to
educate our children. We are blessed to have devoted teachers,
staff and administrators. They provide not only academic but
help to pass on our religious values as a Catholic Church. They
assist the children of our School in their journey of faith.
The parents who send their children to our School are reminded
that they are the primary faith educator for their children. They
must lead their children by example.
Please work to build it up by actively recruiting new families to
consider sending their children here. A high enrollment is essential if we are to have a solid hopeful future. Please pray daily
for the ongoing growth of our School.
Fr. Ricardo

On October 9, 1859, a Belgian woman named Adele Brise
was walking along a wooded Indian trail when a beautiful
lady in white appeared to her. The Lady said she was the
"Queen of Heaven". She told Adele to "gather the children
in this wild country, and teach them what they should
know for salvation". This single event catapulted the establishment of a shrine called Our Lady of Good Help.
Twelve years after the apparition, the Peshtigo Fire swept
through Northeast Wisconsin, and the Shrine stood directly in its path. This documentary explores the incredible
resulting events that took place; it also gives a closer look
at the life of Adele Brise, who played a substantial role in
making the Shrine one of Wisconsin's most historic landmarks of the last 150 years.
In 2010, the Bishop of Green Bay approved the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Adele Brise becoming
the first Marian apparition approved by the Catholic
Church in the United States.

Let God Encounter You
Day in and day out how often does it seem as if in order to get anywhere in life or in order to accomplish anything that you need to first
prove yourself to others or to fulfill certain benchmarks or goals? I’ll admit that this temptation tries to creep in each and every day of
my life. I think that this phenomenon is simply a part of our culture and a part of our lives. One place where this need to prove oneself
NEVER needs to apply is in living a life of prayer. You see, God loves you just as you are right now. It’s not as if you have to reach a
certain level of prayer before you can be pleasing to God. I used to think that unless I could pray with perfect focus 100% of the time,
that I would be a miserable priest and that God wouldn’t be able to use me. Guess what? I still don’t stay focused all of the time and
I’m not a perfect pray-er by any stretch. But the difference between God and the way the world sometimes works is that God is more
interested in our intentions and our efforts than in results! God simply wants for us to be willing to walk with Him no matter where we
might find ourselves. We don’t have to walk alone in order to get to Him first, so that we can then walk with Him down the road. So let
God encounter you now, so that He can lead you to where you need to be.
