2nd & 3rd Generations Organize the
46th Annual Fiesta Navideña
After organizing the Fiesta Navideña for 46 years, the event committee at the Our Lady of the Americas on 80 Prince St passes down the baton
to a younger generation. Ramon and Nancy Pérez have helped organized this event for many years. However, they both agree that is was time for the
younger generation that has grown up coming to this event to take over. “If we want this tradition to continue, we have to show them how it’s done because
we won’t be around for ever” said Ramon.
Arinda Molina-Collins and Teresa Medero were thrilled when they were asked to take on such a task. Both Arinda and Teresa took on the
responsibility as a way to honor their parents. Both of their fathers who since have passed were actively involved in maintaining this beautiful tradition alive.
“Being able to do this is and knowing that they approve makes me feel such pride in keeping our culture and traditions for years to come. The event was a total
success with traditional Puerto Rican food and music by Calle Uno and Los Parranderos de Rochester.

District
Superintendent Bolgen Vargas has
announced a new plan to restructure
the Edison Tech Campus from its
current two- school model, into a
single-school model beginning in the
2015-16 school year.
Vargas said the plan will encourage
students to follow multiple career
pathways by integrating academic
classes with career training and work
experience, getting the school back
to its original goal of providing career
education for high school students.
He said the district plans to use many of
the faculty, staff and resources already
in place at the school to implement the district schools, with a special focus on media; and information technology.

Youth Distribute Truckload of Free Winter Coats
Community Project Developed by
Students and Recognized by Monroe
County Youth Council and City of
Rochester with a $500 Grant
On Saturday, January 10th, students
in Ibero’s Youth Services Division gave
away free coats and toiletries to people
in need at the David Gantt Community
Center at 700 North Street. The
community project was developed by
students at the Youth Voice, One Vision
Conference at Nazareth College and
came in 2nd place out of 16 competing
youth programs.
“Our young adults have shown
leadership and collaborative skills that
encourage a bright future. These young
people worked together to discover a
way to help those in our community
in need of warmth in these winter
months, and we are quite proud of
them,” says Ibero Youth Mentor, Sean
Parmalee, who helped oversee the
project.
The second place win earned students
a $500 grant from the City of Rochester
to implement the program. So students
got to work developing every aspect of
the project, collecting 1,000 pounds of
coats! This was a collaborative effort
that also included Planet Aid, North

for Youth, the United Way’s Latino

Job Seekers: Resolve to Make a Better Impression in 2015
(StatePoint) First impressions matter,
