Women’s Emmaus
The Women’s Emmaus monthly meeting in English is the
third Saturday of every month in Barry Hall at 8:30 am.
If today you hear his voice harden not your hearts, we pray this week in the responsorial Psalm.
To be “hard of heart” is an expression that appears often in the Bible. For example, in the book of Exodus, the Lord tells Moses to go to
Pharaoh with a message that is also a command: Set my people free! The Lord also warns Moses that Pharaoh’s heart will be hardened.
In the Psalm that we pray this weekend we are also told that stubbornness,
and going astray from the commands of the Lord are manifestations of a hardened heart too.

Neglect for those who are around us, especially those who suffer and are poor is also evidence of a hardened heart. Pope Francis always
reminds us of the need to have a heart that listens and cares for the needs of those who are poor in the Biblical sense, not just because of
material poverty but existential poverty as well, those who are in the periphery of life.

In order to avoid the pitfalls of a hardened heart, we need to be constantly watch our ways, purify our motives and ask the Lord for the grace
that we need. We need to be aware of the need to hear the words of the Lord who constantly calls us to conversion, to open our hearts to grace
so that we can become more and more like Jesus who is meek and humble of heart. The Church, our Mother, following in the footsteps of
her Master constantly calls us to conversion and to act in a way consistent with a loving heart. She also undertakes many initiatives to help
her own children who are suffering, struggling and underprivileged.

Once a year, the Archbishop reaches out to us so that out of the goodness of our heart we make a commitment to support his pastoral
ministry and the many works of mercy undertaken by the Church in Miami. This weekend we will be asked to make a contribution to the
annual Archbishop’s Charities and Development campaign, known as ABCD. Through it, parishes contribute to fund prison ministry, care
for people with HIV/AIDS, Catholic Legal Services, outreach programs, Catholic Charities, Catholic Health Services, Catholic Communications, youth programs, schools in poor neighborhoods, Respect Life and many other programs and institutions that make present the love
of God among us.
It is all about fulfilling the command of Jesus and the mission of the Church to announce the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ. The
Church evangelizes through Catechesis and also by living out the Gospel herself, performing spiritual and corporal works of mercy.
The more we are like Christ, the more we imitate Him, the more closely we are united with Him and we can then properly say, we are the
Church.

care for the sick and dying, and touch the hearts of those in despair. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we nourish and educate our children, both spiritually and intellectually. We assist the poorest of our parishes and schools so that all persons may encounter Jesus Christ. We
provide shelter for the homeless. As Catholics, we consistently defend and respect the dignity of all human life, work to eliminate prejudice,

Queridos hermanos en Cristo:
Ojalá escuchen hoy su voz, no endurezcan el corazón, rezamos en el salmo responsorial de esta semana.
Tener el “corazón endurecido” es una expresión que aparece seguido en la Biblia. Por ejemplo, en el libro del Éxodo, el Señor le dice a
Moisés que vaya a ver al Faraón con un mensaje que es al mismo tiempo una orden: ¡Deja salir a mi pueblo! El Señor también le advierte a
Moisés que el corazón del Faraón estará endurecido.
En el salmo que rezamos este fin de semana se nos dice que la testarudez y el desvío de los mandamientos del Señor también son manifestaciones de un corazón endurecido.
La falta de consideración hacia quienes nos rodean, especialmente los que sufren y son pobres también es evidencia de un corazón endurecido. El papa Francisco nos recuerda constantemente que necesitamos un corazón que escuche y se haga cargo de las necesidades de quienes
son pobres en el sentido bíblico de la palabra, no solamente quienes son materialmente pobres, sino aquellos que son existencialmente pobres, aquellos que están en la periferia de la vida.
Para evitar los problemas de un corazón endurecido necesitamos estar constantemente alerta, purificar nuestras motivaciones y pedirle al
Señor la gracia que necesitamos. Tenemos que estar conscientes de nuestra necesidad de escuchar la palabra del Señor que constantemente
nos llama a la conversión, a abrir nuestros corazones a la gracia para que nos parezcamos cada vez más a Jesús que es manso y humilde
de corazón. La Iglesia, nuestra madre, siguiendo los pasos de su maestro nos llama constantemente a la conversión y a actuar de manera
coherente con un corazón que ama, tomando a su cargo iniciativas para ayudar a sus hijos que sufren, tienen problemas o se encuentran en
situaciones desventajosas.
Una vez al año el Arzobispo se dirige a nosotros para pedirnos que de la bondad de nuestro corazón hagamos un compromiso para apoyar
su ministerio pastoral y las múltiples obras de misericordia que realiza la Iglesia en Miami. Este fin de semana nos pedirán una contribución
para la campaña anual de las caridades y desarrollo del Arzobispo, conocida como ABCD. A través de ella, las parroquias contribuyen a
financiar el ministerio de las prisiones, el cuidado de personas con HIV/AIDS, los servicios legales católicos, programas de extensión, caridades católicas, servicios de salud, comunicaciones católicas, programas para la juventud, escuelas en barrios pobres, programas de respeto
a la vida y muchos otros programas e instituciones que hacen presente entre nosotros el amor de Dios.
Se trata de cumplir el mandato del señor Jesús y la misión de la Iglesia de anunciar la Buena Noticia de la salvación en Cristo Jesús. La
Iglesia evangeliza a través de la catequesis y también cuando vive ella misma el Evangelio, practicando obras de misericordia corporal y
espiritual.
Cuanto más nos parecemos a Cristo, cuanto más lo imitamos, cuanto mayor es nuestra unión con El, tanto más podemos decir propiamente
que somos la Iglesia.
Cuando unimos fuerzas para practicar obras de misericordia, nos parecemos cada vez más a Cristo, porque como él, pasamos “haciendo el
bien.”
Como dice el Arzobispo al hacer su pedido, “modelar nuestras vidas a partir del ejemplo de amor de Jesús, nos permite multiplicar el bien
en el mundo. Ser católico no es solamente un título, o algo que hacemos o un lugar al que vamos, es la esencia de lo que somos. Jesucristo
es el hilo común que nos une a todos, nuestros padres, abuelos, hijos, nietos, ustedes, yo y cada uno de nosotros. Representamos todas las
razas y las etnias, jóvenes y viejos, varones y mujeres, ricos y pobres. Desde Key West hasta el norte de Broward, con más de 1,3 millones
en nuestra familia, estamos unidos a El. Somos la Arquidiócesis de Miami.
La Iglesia Católica ha practicado muchas obras de misericordia a través de los siglos, muchas más que cualquier otra organización en el
mundo. ¿Por qué lo hace? Porque Dios es amor, y a través de esa afirmación tan poderosa, nos enseña que es dando como recibimos. Su
mensaje es sencillo, hay que amar a Dios sobre todas las cosas y amar al prójimo. Es por amor de El que les pido ayuda. Uds. son la respuesta
a las oraciones de alguien y juntos cambiamos vidas.
La Arquidiócesis de Miami, a través de la campaña de las caridades y desarrollo del Arzobispo (ABCD), abre las puertas para que estemos
todos unidos como una comunidad de creyentes que desea diseminar la Buena Noticia de Cristo Jesús y llevar esperanza a quienes están
necesitados. Juntos damos de comer al hambriento, vestimos al desnudo, cuidamos a los enfermos y a los moribundos y tocamos los corazones de aquellos que desesperan. Con la asistencia del Espíritu Santo, nutrimos y educamos a nuestros niños tanto espiritual como intelectualmente. Asistimos a los más pobres de nuestras parroquias y escuelas para que todos puedan encontrar a Jesucristo. Proveemos refugio a los
desamparados. Como católicos defendemos de manera coherente y respetamos la dignidad de toda vida humana, trabajamos para eliminar
los prejuicios y promover la justicia social. Caminamos juntos compartiendo los sacramentos, desde el Bautismo hasta la Eucaristía, incluyendo la Confirmación, la Penitencia, el Matrimonio y la Unción de los enfermos. Este año hemos recibido la bendición de contar con sesenta
y cinco jóvenes estudiando en nuestros seminarios, respondiendo al llamado al sacerdocio y así convertirse en pastores de Cristo en el sur
de la Florida. Todo esto lo hacen posible Uds. Les ruego que se unan a mí haciendo una donación al ABCD de este año, para que pueda…
puedan…podamos continuar llevando adelante las buenas obras de Jesucristo. Les pido que, por favor, den desde el corazón, y les aseguro
que el Señor lo colmará. Unidos en el amor de Cristo somos uno: Uno en la Fe, uno en la Esperanza, uno en la Caridad.”

es al dar cuando recibimos. Su mensaje es simple: amar a Dios sobre todas las cosas y amar a los demás.
Es a través de Su amor queyobusco suayuda. Usted es la respuesta a las oraciones de alguien, y juntos,
podemos ayudar a aquellos que tanto lo necesitan.
