Lawton Jonah 3:1-5 A reading from the Book of the Prophet Jonah: The word of the Lord came to Jonah, saying, “Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and announce to it the message that I will tell you.” So Jonah made ready and went to Nineveh, according to the Lord’s bidding. Now Nineveh was an enormously large city; it took three days to go through it. Jonah began his journey through the city, and had gone but a single day’s walking announcing, “Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed,” when the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth. When God saw by their actions how they turned from their evil way, he repented of the evil that he had threatened to do to them; he did not carry it out. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 25:4-9 Your ways, O lord, make known to me, teach me your paths. Guide me, teach me, for you are my Savior. 1) We praise you, we bless, you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. 2) Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. 3) For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Remember your compassion, Lord, and your kindness of old. Remember this, and not my sins, in your goodness, O Lord. Good and just is the Lord, the sinners know the way. God guides the meek to justice, and teaches the humble. Responsorial Psalm: 25: Teach me Your ways; D. Haas 1 Corinthians 7: 29-31 A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians: Gospel Acclamation: The Glendalough Mass; L. Lawton Offertory: The Summons; KELVINGROVE Will you come and follow me if I but call your name? Will go you where you don’t know and never be the same? Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known, will you let my life be grown in you and you in me? Will you leave yourself behind if I but call you name? Will you care fro cruel and kind and never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare Should your life attract of scare? Will you let me answer pray’r in you and you in me? Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name? Will you set the pris’ners free and never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen and admit to what I mean in you and you in me? Will you love the ‘you” you hide if I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same? Will you use the faith you’ve found to reshape the world around through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me? Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same. In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps show. Thus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me. I tell you, brother and sisters, the time is running out. From now on, let those having wives act as not having them, those weeping as not weeping, those rejoicing as not rejoicing, those buying as not owning, those using the world as not using it fully. For the world in its present form is passing away. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Eucharistic Acclamations: The Glendalough Mass; L. Lawton Sanctus Mark 1: 14-20 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark. After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fisherman. Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him. Mystery of Faith The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ Amen Agnus Dei Communion: In This Place; Trevor Thompson Sending Forth: You Walk Along Our Shoreline; AURELIA Profession of Faith I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Gloria a ti, Señor Jesus. ParishPay: $7,870.00/month ~ $1,967.25/week 11 12 Christmas Thanks from SVdP Catholic Community for caring for Once again we thank each and every one of you in our St. Raphael Community who contributed to the gift card program for the needy children in our community this Christmas season. Thanks to your generosity, particularly from one large donor, in total our St. Vincent de Paul Conference was able to make a difference in the lives of 318 children and 154 families, many more than last year who might otherwise not have known the gift of giving and receiving as we celebrated the greatest gift of all, the birth of the Christ Child. Particularly touching was the gift from a member’s granddaughter who took her savings to buy a gift card for another child to make her Christmas special. Three other children in one family were adopted by a family. An additional 50 gifts were given to children thanks to the generosity of St. Isabella School. Among those receiving the benefit of your goodness was a mother living in protective housing suffering medical problems from her past employment and being re-trained for another job; a father of four, a carpenter, unable to work due to the rain; a single mother of three with Lyme’s disease, on disability with limited income; a father on disability due to a work accident and family with limited income; a young mother of three children whose husband died in a swimming accident this year. All struggling to pay rent so they have housing leaving nothing special to give their children at this time of the Christ Child’s birth. All the families helped were so appreciative and thanked you abundantly. Please remember them in your prayers throughout the year as we remember you in ours. Your gifts gave them the gift of hope and knowing that others care. This year for the ninth year, Marin Catholic High School asked to share in our Christmas program and thanks to the generosity of the entire student body, staff and faculty, gift certificates were collected for 121 children in 46 families. This will allow the parents to buy warm clothing for their children and items to bring happiness to their lives. If you have the opportunity, please thank the Marin 13 those in our community who are most in need. We also thank all of you for your other contributions during this Christmas season which enable us to continue helping those who come to us for rental, food, utility and other assistance. Your willingness to share makes this help possible. Your outpouring of food donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season is most appreciated. A particular thanks to the school and PSR communities for their commitment to feed the hungry. This need is year round and the number of those coming for food daily at the Rectory Door has never been greater. Please keep up your contributions to put food on the tables of those not able to provide for themselves. At this time of year, we are asked by so many worthwhile organizations to contribute to their good work. We thought it might be helpful to remind our parishioners why the parish is also deserving of your financial support. 5 Reasons to Support Saint Raphael Parish We’re here when you most need us. Whether you are looking for spiritual nourishment in the daily and weekly Masses, to have your children baptized, to prepare for and celebrate a marriage, to have a family member anointed when they are sick or celebrate their life when they are deceased—your parish is here in these significant moments. We support families in the religious education of children. Forming and fostering our children in the Catholic faith is a team effort. Saint Raphael helps to lay the foundation through the Parish School of Religion, religious education in the parish school, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, the Confirmation Program and Youth Ministry opportunities. Whether or not you have children, we can all agree that this is an essential role of the parish. We provide numerous opportunities for communal celebration. It is an important part of our Catholic faith that we come together to share and celebrate—through Masses, devotions and cultural festivities. We provide a space and place for personal prayer and meditation. At those times when we need a special quiet place to spend time with God, Saint Raphael makes the Mission Chapel available every day. Saint Raphael Parish reaches out to community to demonstrate Christ’s love and caring. The St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Contact Committee, Dinners for the Unhoused, the Gabriel Project, and the Marin Organizing Committee are just a few groups that Saint Raphael supports and assists in their good works to the larger community. We invite all parishioners to consider what you can give over the next year and make a commitment of your weekly offering. Commitment brochures are at the church doors. Your support makes possible all that the parish does every day and we are most grateful. 14
