Welcome to Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Jan 11, 2015
OUR SITE OF FAITH WITH FR. BEN
NUESTRO ENFOQUE DE LA FE CON PADRE BEN
Dear brothers and sisters, the celebration of
Christmas joyfully ends with the celebration of the
Baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan as seen in
the Gospel reading of today (Mark 1: 7-11). The
baptism of Jesus is on his part, the acceptance
and inauguration of Jesus’ mission as God’s
suffering Servant (Isaiah 53). Jesus allows
himself to be numbered among sinners; he, in the
words of John the Baptist, is the Lamb of God,
who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29).
At his mission-oriented baptism, the Spirit whom
Jesus possessed in fullness from his conception
(Luke 1: 35) comes to rest on him (John 1:32-33).
In reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church, we are reassured with
the gospel message that at the baptism of Jesus, the heavens were
opened (Mt. 3:16) which is a prelude to the new creation (CCC, 536).
In the event of the baptism of the Lord and the celebration of a New
Year, we joyfully accept the newness of life and the inauguration of a
new mission designed by God for us as His beloved children. After his
baptism, Jesus began his public ministry; he began a new project of
gathering the children of God. We remember that in the Gospel
according to St. Luke, Jesus made known his mission in these words:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to
preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the
captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who
are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:1819).
In the mission of Jesus, the blessing of the Lord was not only
announced but was made present, healings took place and people’s lives
were transformed. In our own mission this Year 2015; we hope that
God’s blessings will be visible in the lives of all our parishioners as we
seek different ways; develop new programs; sustain old projects in our
call to build a house for the holy One of Israel and to evangelically impact
the lives of the least ones among us (Matthew 25:31).
In our humble parish life we shall continue to proclaim the word of
God in the context of the Year of Consecrated Life/Vocation. We shall
continue to promote vocations to the priestly and Religious life
responding generously to the invitation of Pope Francis calling us to
wake up the world for Christ. In the light of this evangelical summons of
the Holy Father, it is very expedient for us to continue the path of
rediscovering the faith we profess in the creed; the faith we celebrate in
the sacraments; and the faith that moves us to live a good life in our
places of work and in our individual families. We, as a Church have great
opportunities to learn about the Catholic faith through our new monthly
teaching series: “An Evening with God” which takes place every 3rd
Thursdays after the Holy Hour. We have agreed to use the resources
available from Lighthouse productions, Catholic Dynamic, and Pope John
Paul II School of Evangelization in our effort to help many of our
parishioners to understand and appreciate their Catholic Faith.
To boost our spiritual energy, there will be opportunities for
Spiritual Direction and Mini-Retreats throughout the year for individuals,
families, and ministries. Our marriage preparation program will include
more pastoral sensibilities and opportunities for couples that may be
encountering difficulties in their vocation and journey with each other.
In the area of charity and service to the community, we are
invited to support different initiatives and fund-raising activities that will
benefit all of us in our determination to pay off the mortgage of our
beautiful Church, which is the House of God, and the gate of heaven
(Genesis 28:17).
Have a Blessed Year 2015!!!
las personas se transformaron. En nuestra misión de este Año 2015;
miembros de nuestra parroquia mientras buscamos diferentes maneras;
Productions, Catholic Dynamic y Pope John Paul II School of Evangelization.

A TEACHING MOMENT
OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
PATRONESS OF MEXICO AND EMPRESS
OF THE AMERICAS
AN INTEGRAL PART OF MEXICAN
IDENTITY (PART II)
MEANING FOR TODAY’S MEXICAN
For Mexicans, Our Lady of Guadalupe is more than an
icon of faith and devotion, is an integral part of their history
and identity, to wherever they migrate and become
established. She was very important in Mexican
indigenous community in influencing socio-political events
such as the Independence of Mexico where she was put in
a banner by the priest Miguel Hidalgo in 1810 and still is
important in Mexico today. Currently, in the United States
is not uncommon to see her as the central figure of many
social movements, in walks carried out in defense of the
rights of documented and undocumented immigrants to
this country.
The influence of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico's
culture is written in the heart of Mexico, in its art, music,
poetry, religious cultural expressions, rather than in history
books.
THE SANCTUARY, TEPEYAC
It is the world's most visited Marian shrine, every year 20
million faithful go and come December 12th, nearly 3
million people flock there.
The new Basilica has a round shape symbolizing the tent that housed the
Ark of the Covenant in its march through the wilderness; interior lamps
hanging from the ceiling that remind us of the cloud guiding the people of
God day by day and the glowing golden wall holding the frame represents
the column of fire and light that led the way overnight.
THE VIRGIN OF GUADALUPE IN THE CURRENT
CULTURAL CONTEXT
Tonantzin-Guadalupe taught us to integrate the best of the other to create
something new, a mestizo nation. What we as Mexicans are now,
germinated on December 12, 1531, when a Lady from Heaven, wrapped in
our culture sent us to ask for help and demand justice to the foreigners who
came to our lands. The message and the engraved cloak of Our Lady of
Guadalupe represent the possibility of living differently; not centered in
selfishness (if we are Mexicans, Spaniards, North Americans, Filipinos,
Africans, etc.) but on respect and recognition of the other.
In today's world, social justice is still far from what God wants; however,
there is a religious element that reminds us that this multicultural
environment should be a source of enrichment rather than conflict. By
accepting each race with dignity as brothers in Christ.
SCIENTIFIC STUDIES OF THE IMAGE OF THE
VIRGIN
Modern science is left without explanation at the wonders of the image of
Our Lady of Guadalupe. It is a unique reality. It surpasses all natural
possibilities, this is a supernatural event.
A cloak that is not corrupted. Colors that were not painted. A pupil containing
the entire scene and everyone at the time of the miracle. We have an image
that neither time nor the attacks of hateful men can overcome.
The miracle of her presence in the Tepeyac is real but very subtle. She has
wanted to be a beacon planted in the heart of the American continent to
attract all to Christ, Savior and Eternal Life, only hope before the ruin where
humanity is found. She wanted to give us a miracle to help unbelieving
generations. She wanted to show with her characteristic humility, that
science has its function but also its limits ... .She recalls the words of the
angel: "To God nothing is impossible".

“YEAR OF GOD THE SON”
W
e have been blessed with a beautiful church
to gather as a community, to pray, and give
glory to God. With the tremendous growth of our
community, we were very fortunate that our Bishop
saw our needs and enabled us to build a church to
meet them. It is our responsibility as a community
to repay the loan that was given to us to build the
church.
Last year, we began a three year evangelical
journey of looking for a more effective way to respond to God’s abundant
blessings in our lives as a Church. The first year helped us to contemplate the
gracious gift of life which we undeservedly receive from God. With the “Tree
of Life,” we asked the Good Lord to give us the fullness of life here and
hereafter (John 10:10). Some parishioners responded to this appeal and we
are grateful to announce that 368 out of 3,463 families paid $480 or more.
THE TREE OF LOVE
From the “Tree of Life”, we embrace the “Tree of Love.” Life is meaningful
when lived in love and when shared with others as God shared His life with us
in Christ (John 3:16). As you continue to participate in our Kingdom
Campaign, the words of Jesus ought to be your consolation and reassurance,
“The measure you give will be the measure you receive,” (Luke 6: 38). Your
giving to the Kingdom Campaign will offer you and your family the opportunity
to be part of Sacred Heart history. You will be honored as one who
generously contributed in building a house for God (2 Samuel 7: 5). When
one gives up to $480 or more during this second year, “Year of God the Son”,
his/her name or family name will be written on the “Tree of Love”, which shall
be placed on one of the walls of the church. Please be part of this spiritual
opportunity.
Please take a minute today and complete your Kingdom Campaign
pledge card. Pledge cards are in the back of the church and are
available in the parish office. An easier way is our Automated Payment
option available through our website www.sacredheartrc.org and click
on the Online Giving icon. This is a fast, easy and safe way to make &
pay your pledge!
gloria a Dios.

We all have a desire to belong, but where does it come from
and how do we satiate that inherent longing for Christ? Fr.
Imo, pastor at St. John XXII, will explain why, as Christian
persons, we must receive the Eucharist so that we may in
turn be Eucharist to others.

GRATITUDE PAGE
JAN 11, 2015
“...do not cease giving thanks to you, remembering you in my prayers”
Ephesians 1:16
Our Christmas Season was blessed this year to have the
various choirs at Sacred Heart share their extraordinary
talents on December 20th with an evening filled with
beautiful music. We are so grateful to all of those who helped
make this special event happen—all of our Choir Directors, Fr.
Julian, and the many talented members of our choirs.
Everyone who attended had a night filled with song and joy.
Thank you for taking the time during such a busy time of the
year to bring the love of the Christ Child to many!
