BAPTISM OF THE LORD
For most of us, the Christmas season ended on December 26th. For
others, it ended on the feast of the Epiphany, January 4th. Decorations
are packed away. The creche, our symbol of the birth of Our Lord, Jesus
Christ, our Savior, has been dismantled. We're into a new year, and
trying to reconstruct a daily routine. But liturgically, the feast of the
Baptism of the Lord marks the end of the Christmas season and the
transition to "Ordinary Time." Mark's simple account of the baptism
today ends with the heavenly voice introducing "my beloved Son."
We probably hear people express the wish that the spirit of Christmas
would last all through the year. So how do we do that?
The Baptism of Jesus marks the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry.
During His public ministry, He gathered a community around Himself, to
carry the gospel to all people. His public ministry is our example of how
we should live as Catholic Christians. And we are called to take that
responsibility seriously and must reflect on the fact that God has come to
dwell with us in Jesus Christ.
If you haven't made a New Year's resolution, here's a simple one: let all
that we say and do manifest that basic truth that God is with us. There is
no one season for charity; it's a yearlong demand of our faith. It can show
on our faces, in our words and in what we do. By responding to the needs
of those who feel isolated not only during the holidays, but all year
through, is a way of responding to the call of Christ among us. Our
acceptance and welcoming of new members to our parish community is a
way to spread the gospel of our Lord. Our participation in the monthly
food collection, and many other charitable activities of the parish
community, is a way to reach out, all year through, to those who are
isolated in the community at large. The giving of our time, talents and
treasures to our parish community, will allow us to grow and strengthen
our commitment, to carry the gospel to all and to provide for those who
are isolated in our parish community and our community at large. And
finally, our ability to forgive those who we feel has harmed us.

GREETINGS WITH A THANKFUL HEART!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped to
make the celebration of Christmas, New Year, Holy Mother of God (Our
Lady of the Clouds), Epiphany (the Three Kings), the Baptism of the
Lord, and the Bacio del Bambino a wonderful, memorable and spiritual
event for our Parish Community of Our Lady of the Angels. The list of
names would be rather long, so let me thank everyone in a general way the Staff of the parish, those who helped to create the environment in church, the
Rectory and the interior and exterior of our facilities, the cantors, choir members, the
Musicians at the concerts and the many silent workers, the volunteers, Altar Servers and
the Ushers.
Thanks also go to everyone who gave generously in the Christmas collections, and also
to the children who faithfully support with their Advent envelops the mission of the
Church.
As we enter into this New Year of 2015 and are making progress, I would ask every
parishioner or family member to make the New Year’s resolution to considering first
God at the top of the list. From there, keep asking and responding how can I be
sharing my time, talents and treasures to build up and strengthen my parish
community. How can I become more involved or help develop new programs that
support not just the Church but also my community?
When every parishioner is a good steward, the parish grows as s Christian community of
care, love and service. We also began this year with a new adoption program, as I
mentioned this past week members of the Congregation are invited to pray for each
other as we leave the Church. In the future, I will also let you know how the different
Apostolates, Ministries, and Committees will also be part of this Adoption Prayer
Program.
Today’s feast of the Baptism of the Lord and tomorrow’s celebration of Bacio del
Bambino (“Adoration/Kiss of the Divine Infant”) we closed our Christmas Season and
points us to the Season of Ordinary Time. We have been renewed in the story of the
Incarnation of our God, who is now forever with us as a human being, one like us. And,
now we move forward into Mark's Gospel to grow in our desire and ability to be more
with him and like him, for others.
Jesus does not need John's baptism of repentance for sin. Jesus chooses this baptism to
be one with us. He becomes immersed in our reality. We know a similar meaning to the
word "immersed" when we think of being immersed in a book, a project or a hobby.
We give ourselves completely to it. We almost can't think of anything else. At times,
when we are completely immersed, it is as if there is no other reality. Jesus is immersed
in the waters of the Jordan, one with his Father. By walking into that water, Jesus enacts
his acceptance of his identity and mission. Today, as we received the Holy Water by
aspersion let us ask God to help us to be also one with Him, one with his Son! Lord give
me always of this water!!!!

LE ACQUE DEL BATTESIMO
Quando zolle d’erba sono istallate,
hanno bisogno di essere continuamente
saturate con acqua. I giardinieri dicono
che questo attacca le zolle al suolo. Lo stesso quando
un ramo e’ innestato in un albero: l’impiastro che li
unisce deve rimanere bagnato continuamente.
L’acqua e’ la sostanza che lega insieme le cellule del
nostro corpo. Non e’sorprendente percio’ che
religioni nel tempo e in varie civilta’ l’hanno usata
prominentemente. Quando Gesu’ entro’ nel
Giordano per il battesimo, egli si lego’ a quello che
era venuto prima di lui. Entrando nel Giordano si
immedesimo’ con il popolo di Israele che l’aveva
attraversato per entrare nella Terra Promessa. Con
Giovanni Battista, Cristo si intreccio’ nella
tradizione profetica che annunciava l’avvento del
regno di Dio. Egli era diventato completamente
umano nelle acque del seno di Maria, e partecipando
al rito del battesimo di pentimento, Gesu’ si
identifico’ con la nostra
umanita’ debole e
peccatrice. E’ per mezzo delle acque del battesimo
che Cristo continua ad innestare nuovi membri al suo
Corpo, la Chiesa; per mezzo di queste acque siamo
purificati dal peccato e pieni della promessa della
grazia, e dati il nostro destino per la vita eterna. Per
noi, come per Gesu’, sono le acque del battesimo che
inaugurano la nostra missione di proclamare la
Buona Novella.

feast is often known as “Candlemas Day”
since candles are blessed on this day.
Candles are not used liturgically for the purpose of
giving light, but as a mark of joy and to show honor to
God or holy things. You may bring candles with you
to Mass to be blessed. Also at this time our
Confirmation candidates will be presented to the
community and will profess their faith in front of the
altar. Please join us in this special event.

READING OF THE DAY
THE WATERS OF BAPTISM
When new sod is put in, it needs
constant
saturation
with
water.
Landscapers say that this “knits” the
sod to the soil. The same when a branch is grafted
onto a tree: the poultice that joins them at the splice
must be kept wet at all times. Water is the stuff that
binds the very cells of our bodies together. No
wonder religions throughout all times and cultures
have used it so prominently. When Jesus stepped into
the Jordan for baptism, he “knit” himself to what had
come before him. By going to the Jordan, he made
himself one with the people of Israel who had crossed
it into their Promised Land. With John the Baptist,
Christ wove himself into the prophetic tradition that
heralded the coming reign of God. He had become
fully human in the waters of Mary’s womb, and by
partaking in the rite of the baptism of repentance,
Jesus identified himself with our sinful, frail
humanity. It is through the waters of baptism that
Christ continues to graft new members onto his
Body, the Church; through these waters we are
cleansed from sin and filled with the promise of
grace, given our destiny for eternal life. For us, as for
Jesus, it is also the waters of baptism that inaugurate
our mission to proclaim the Good News.

¡SALUDOS CON UN CORAZÓN AGRADECIDO!
Quisiera tomar esta oportunidad para darle las gracias a quienes de alguna forma
ayudaron con la preparación de las pasadas fiestas: Navidad, Año Nuevo, Santa
Madre de Dios (Nuestra Señora de las Nubes), Epifanía (los Tres Reyes), Bautismo
del Señor y el Bacio del Bambino. Todos por igual vivimos estos eventos
maravillosos, que dejaran recuerdos memorables y espirituales para nuestra
comunidad parroquial de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles. La lista de nombres sería
muy larga, así que les doy las gracias a todos en general: al personal parroquial, a los que ayudaron a
preparar la decoración, la limpieza y el arreglo en las iglesias, la casa cural, el interior y el exterior de
nuestros edificios; a los coros, los músicos del concierto, los voluntarios, los monaguillos/acólitos, los
ujieres y muchos más, que en el silencio de su corazón y de su trabajo, dejaron resonar su amor por
Cristo y por su Iglesia.
Igualmente quiero dar las gracias a todos los que generosamente contribuyeron a la colecta de Navidad
y a todos los niños y niñas que fielmente apoyaron con sus sobres de Adviento para la misión de la
Iglesia.
Al comenzar este Nuevo Año 2015 se ve cómo vamos progresando. Le pido a cada feligrés o miembro
de nuestra familias que haga su resolución para el Nuevo Año considerando primero a Dios, que El sea
siempre sea el primero en la lista. Luego, pregúntese y respóndase; ¿cómo puedo compartir mi tiempo,
talentos y tesoros para construir y fortalecer más mi familia, mi ambiente de trabajo escuela y mi
comunidad parroquial? ¿Cómo puedo involucrarme más o ayudar a desarrollar nuevos programas que
beneficien mi entorno?
Cuando cada feligrés es un buen manejador de sus dones, la parroquia crece como una comunidad
cristiana en apoyo, amor y servicio. Recuerden además que comenzamos este año con un nuevo
programa de ADOPCION, como les mencione la semana pasada, todos los miembros de la asamblea
están invitados a UNIRNOS unos a otros en oración. Pronto les dejaré saber cómo los diferentes
apostolados, ministerios y comités también formarán parte de este Programa de Oración.
Hoy, con la fiesta del Bautismo del Señor y la celebración mañana de la Adoración y Beso del Divino
Niño (Bacio del Bambino) cerramos la temporada de Navidad que nos conduce al Tiempo Ordinario.
Hemos sido renovados en la historia de la Encarnación de Dios quien estará por siempre con nosotros.
Ahora avanzamos con el Evangelio de Marcos para crecer en nuestro deseo de estar más con Él y ser
como Él: Unidos al Padre y en servicio para los demás.
Jesús quiso bautizarse para ser uno con nosotros. Él entró en nuestra realidad. Conocemos un
significado similar para la palabra “sumergirse” cuando estamos inmersos en un libro, un proyecto o
un pasatiempo, nos entregamos totalmente de tal manera que no podemos pensar en otra cosa. Jesús
se sumergió en el agua del Jordán, y así nos enseña como acepta su identidad y su misión. Hoy, al
recibir la aspersión del agua bendita pidámosle a Dios que nos ayude para que también ¡seamos uno
con Él, uno con Su Hijo! ¡Señor dame siempre de esta agua!!!

LECTURA DEL DÍA
LAS AGUAS BAUTISMALES
Cuando se planta un césped nuevo,
debe regarse constantemente. Los
jardineros dicen que esto “teje” el
césped al suelo. Lo mismo sucede
cuando se injerta una rama a un árbol: el cataplasma
que los une debe estar húmedo en todo momento. El
agua es lo que mantiene unidas a las células de
nuestro cuerpo. Con razón las religiones de todas las
épocas y culturas han usado tanto este símbolo.
Cuando Jesús se sumerge en el Jordán para ser
bautizado, se “teje” a todo aquello que lo precedía.
Al sumergirse en el Jordán, se hizo uno con el
pueblo de Israel que había cruzado el río para llegar
a su Tierra Prometida. Junto a Juan Bautista, Cristo
se tejió a la tradición profética que presagiaba la
venida del Reino de Dios. Jesús se había convertido
plenamente en humano en las aguas del vientre de
María y al participar del rito del Bautismo del
arrepentimiento, se sintió identificado con nuestra
frágil y pecaminosa humanidad. Por las aguas del
Bautismo Cristo continúa injertando nuevos
miembros a su Cuerpo, la Iglesia; gracias a nuestro
destino de vida eterna, por estas aguas somos
limpiados del pecado y recibimos la promesa de la
gracia. Para nosotros, como para Jesús, las aguas
bautismales también inauguran nuestra misión de
proclamar la Buena Nueva.

EL BAUTISMO DEL SEÑOR
Para la mayoría de nosotros, el tiempo de Navidad
terminó el 26 de diciembre. Para otros, se terminó en la
fiesta de la Epifanía el 4 de enero. Las decoraciones ya
están empacadas. El pesebre, símbolo del nacimiento de
Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, nuestro Salvador, ha sido
retirado. Estamos en un nuevo año, y tratando de
reconstruir la diaria rutina. Pero litúrgicamente, la fiesta
del Bautismo del Señor marca el final del tiempo de
Navidad y la transición al "tiempo ordinario". El simple
relato de Marcos sobre el bautismo hoy termina con la
voz celestial presentando a "mi Hijo amado”.
Probablemente escuchamos a las personas que expresan
su deseo de que el espíritu de la Navidad durara todo el
año. Entonces, ¿cómo lo hacemos?
El Bautismo de Jesús marca el inicio del ministerio
público de Jesús. Durante su ministerio público, reunió a
una comunidad en torno a sí mismo, para llevar el
evangelio a todas las personas. Su ministerio público es
nuestro ejemplo de cómo debemos vivir como cristianos
católicos. Y estamos llamados a tomar en serio esa
responsabilidad y debemos reflexionar sobre el hecho de
que Dios ha venido para estar entre nosotros por medio
de Jesucristo.
Si no ha hecho su resolución de año nuevo, aquí hay una
simple. Dejemos que todo lo que hagamos y digamos
manifieste la verdad acerca de que Dios está con
nosotros. No hay una temporada para la caridad, si no es
algo obligatorio que requiere nuestra fe. Lo podemos
demostrar con nuestras caras, nuestras palabras y en las
cosas que hacemos. Respondiendo a las necesidades de
todos aquellos que se sienten aislados no solo en épocas
festivas sino durante todo el año, ésta es una manera de
responder al llamado que Cristo está entre nosotros.
Nuestra aceptación y bienvenida a todos los nuevos
miembros de nuestra parroquia es una manera de pasar
la palabra de Dios. Nuestra participación en las colectas
de alimentos del mes, en colectas de ropa anuales, y
otras más actividades de caridad de la comunidad
parroquial, es una manera para tocar durante todo el año
a todos aquellos que se sienten asolados en nuestra gran
comunidad. El dar nuestro tiempo, talentos y tesoros a
nuestra comunidad parroquial, nos permitirá crecer y
fortalecer nuestro compromiso, para llevar la palabra de
Dios a todos aquellos que están aislados de nuestra
comunidad parroquial o en sí de nuestra gran
comunidad. Y finalmente, nuestra habilidad de perdonar
a todos aquellos quienes hemos sentido nos ha hecho
daño.

Electronics & Gadgets BINGO on Saturday,
January 31st in the school's auditorium, 1555
