FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
GREETER’S AND USHERS NEEDED
“Ministers of Hospitality”
We need parishioners to “Greet” people as they enter our
church each weekend and make them feel Welcome in
God’s house and within the Holy Spirit Community.
We also need people to serve as Ushers at Mass. As an
usher, we help seat people, gather the monetary contributions, assist people during Communion, and hand out bulletins following Mass. As Ushers, we serve during a specific
Mass time (i.e., noon Mass or 7:30am Mass) for that whole
month but we only Usher every third month of the year.
Please prayerfully consider serving our parish community as
either a Greeter or as an Usher. If interested, please fill out
the form below and turn it into the collection basket or the
parish office.
Thank You!

Mass times are you available?

Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
We awoke to our first snowfall this week and a serious temperature drop. Winter is REALLY with us now.
Please keep in prayer the homeless and those who may
not have heat in their homes/apartments. If you would
like to make a donation to an institution that serves the
homeless, you might consider Holy Family Shelter
which is run by Catholic Charities or Wheeler Mission,
located on East Washington St.
A few weeks ago, I asked for personal reflections on
the question: “What blessing have you received that
you would not have prayed for?” Several people have
given beautiful tributes, but I would welcome more. If
you have experienced something in your life that was
difficult to endure or face, yet you were deeply blessed
through it, please let me know. You can e-mail me at
[email protected].
I am getting excited about our Honduras visit! We are
leaving on January 20th and returning January 27th. Thirteen people will be making the trip, with ten of us having
been before and three new visitors. This visit, we will be
teaching English classes and visiting the sick in the
mountains. As a priest, I will be involved with the visits,
since we will be giving the Sacrament of the Anointing
to the sick and elderly. I love this.
I can still picture several of those we visited last year.
One was to an elderly couple whose home was located a
one hour walk into the mountains from the nearest road
(we also drove an hour). I remember how they laughed
and how he would not tell us how old he was (probably
in his 80s). It struck me how isolated they were, yet they
appeared to be content. So often their faith is a witness
to us.
God’s Blessings and Love,
Please call Patty Caito at 317-894-2354 for Greeter
information or questions.
Please call Jim or Carol Shaver at 317-861-5199 for
Usher information or questions. Thank You!
PRAYER LINE - Have health issues, need
a job? Call the Prayer Line at 353-0358 and speak
with Dorothy Riley. If you would like to become a
member of the Prayer Line, Dorothy can add your
phone number to the list . You are asked to call
the next person on the prayer list. It’s easy and very powerful.
We’d love to have you!

YOUTH MINISTRY
Schedule of Events
Time is running out! If you still need
to register for Confirmation, we need registrations absolutely no later than Friday,
January 23rd. After this time, your child
will have missed too many of our classes
to be able to participate in our program and also receive the Sacrament
of Confirmation this Fall.
Also, we have our Spring Youth Ministry Calendars posted in the vestibules and also in our Parish Office. Please stop and grab one for your
home. Our next Youth Group Gatherings are today from 4:45-6:00 and
January 25 at the same time. We would love to have all our youth
participate!
We also have senior Retreat around the corner next month. This retreat is Specifically for High School Seniors who have not had the opportunity to go on a senior retreat, and it is probably one of the best
retreats that we could offer to our seniors to prepare them for the big
changes coming their way. As these young people make the transition
to adulthood, it is our responsibility to guide them through that time in
their lives by giving them the most valuable tool: Faith. This year’s
Senior Retreat will be on February 14-16 at the Benedict Inn. Please
contact Mary Kate for more information.
There will be a pro-life rally, hosted by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis’s Offices of Pro-Life and Family Life and Youth Ministry on January 21 from 6:30-9:30 pm. The rally will take the place of the March
for Life Pilgrimage for this upcoming year. The cost is $10 and you
can register online at: http://www.archindyym.com/#!disciples-for-life/
c1cdv.
On January 31, there will be a Junior High Rally at Roncalli High
School. This event is open to all 6, 7, and 8 grade students and
costs $30. You can register online before January 20 by using the
following link: http://thegreatadventure.eventbrite.com. From there,
all you have to do is join the “Holy Spirit Indianapolis” group and
complete your registration.

MEETING ROOMS FOR EVENTS
PLEASE reserve meeting rooms at church and school
as far in advance as possible. We have to know who is in our
buildings. For the safety, security and convenience for all, we
give a schedule to our security team; if your event is not on
the schedule, they will come in and question you and ask for
identification.
For best results, you can ask for a confirmation sheet
when you reserve your space. Emailing requests to:
[email protected] is one way to reserve space.
Your space is not reserved until you receive a return email,
or you can call the Parish Office at 353-9404 to make a
reservation. Even if your meeting involves Fr. Paul or Fr. Juan, please do
not assume that they are scheduling
a meeting space. Thank you!

Our Music Director, Paula Slinger, is retiring as of

has brought beautiful music to Holy Spirit since 1987!
She and her husband, Mike, will continue to play active
roles in our parish community. We want to express our

Carta del Pastor Asociado
Queridos amigos de la Iglesia
Espíritu Santo,
TÚ ERES MI HIJO AMADO
El día del Bautismo de Cristo:
•
se vio que del cielo se abría;
•
•
que el cielo se abrió( para cada uno de nosotros);
•
que el Espíritu Santo bajo sobre nosotros;
•

Many repairs and improvements
can be performed in-house by
our talented maintenance staff,
such as repairing chairs &
desks, refurbishing class room
doors, keeping mowers & snow-blowers running,
refurbishing picnic tables, and many more. Anything
that we can fix ourselves, helps us to save money for
both our church and school. If you need to make room
in the garage for the new tools that Santa brought you
for Christmas, please consider donating them to our
parish as we are constantly trying to stay ahead of
the repairs. Here are a few items that we know our
maintenance staff could put to good use:
•
•
•
•
Bench Grinder: 6” or 8” (new or used) approx.
cost is $50-$80
Drill Press: table or floor model (new or used)
with a 5/8” chuck. Approx. cost is $130-$300
Air Compressor Accessories such as: impact
wrenches, rackets, nailers and staplers.
Tig Welder, 120V (new or used). Approx. cost
is $400-$1,500
Thank you for your generosity
to our parish and school!
