ABCD
Archbishop’s Charity and
Development Drive Begins
ONE IN FAITH
ONE IN HOPE
ONE IN CHARITY
As we begin the year 2015, we have so much
to reflect upon
and to be grateful
for. We are called
ABCD
2013
upon by
God to be
good &stewards
of the
gifts He
ARCHBISHOP’S
CHARITIES
DEVELOPMENT
DRIVE
has given us by placing those gifts at His service. In
the coming days, many of you will receive a letter
from Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski regarding the
2015 Archbishop’s Charity and Development Drive
(ABCD). Please read it and prayerfully consider
supporting the Archdiocese of Miami and its many
life-changing ministries.
For more than fifty years, the Archdiocese
of Miami has been building and sustaining the
Catholic community in South Florida. That has
been made possible because of people like you.
Since its inception, the Archbishop’s Charities and
Development Drive (ABCD) has always been a
conduit to carrying out God’s Will. The good works
that ABCD makes possible are a testimony to our
faith, a faith that is very much alive and is a part of
each and every one of us.
Let us join together to be One in Faith, One in Hope,
One in Charity. Thank you for your support of ABCD.

Lecturas Del Dia

Bread for the World
Dear St. Louis family. We can rejoice and
be happy for an important victory to which we all
contributed with our last Offering of Letters. Faithful
advocacy won out over special interests in a modernday, David and Goliath story. Using messages of
faith as virtual slingshots aimed at Congress, Bread
members (and when you write your letters you
are acting as members) across the country, told
lawmakers to prioritize food for hungry people over
profit for shipping conglomerates - and they listened.
This translates into food for many people in poor
countries.
Keep in mind that if we pray with faith, the Lord
will always be in our side and very much more if we
are working to do His will as it is to care for the less
fortunate.
If you want to come to our next meeting you will be
welcomed. It will take place on Saturday Jan. 17th at
10 am in the library.

The One Church One Family
Capital Campaign
Thank you to those of you who attended the Christmas Star Ball at the historic Biltmore hotel on December
19th. It was a beautiful evening of food, dancing, and fellowship.
We are so grateful for the
support of all our sponsors, champions,
and our esteemed guests. We want to
particularly thank the following: our event
underwriters, Dr. & Mrs. Percy Aitken, our
gala committee co-chairs, Dr. Sharon
MacIvor, Mrs. Cindy Eisamann and Mr.
Gene & Mrs. Andreina Kissane. Thank you
for your tireless efforts in making the event
a success. We are also very grateful to have
shared the evening with our special guests:
Monsignor Jim Fetscher and Fr. David
Russell.
The proceeds raised from the
Christmas Ball event go to the future
of St. Louis and we raised over $20,000 for the One
Church One Family capital campaign just from this
event alone. With God’s help and guidance, let us
continue pushing forward as the vision and mission
continue. Thank you again.

What Now?
¿Y Ahora Qué?
It’s over. The season is done. Put away
the decorations.
The
Christmas
season may end, but the effect of
Christmas can transform our lives, not
just seasonally but throughout the year.
The Christmas season wraps up
with the Feast of the Baptism of the
Lord. In the West we read the story of
the magi on Epiphany and then the following Sunday the
gospel of the Baptism. In the Eastern Church, Epiphany
celebrates the Baptism. The Feast of the Baptism of the
Lord represents the “final curtain call” of the season’s star
character. Jesus, as it were, takes his “final bow” as the
“beloved Son” on whom God’s favor rests. Filled with the
Spirit, Jesus spends his forty days in the desert as a prelude
to beginning his ministry. From his baptism Jesus sets out
on a new way of life: preaching, teaching, healing, forgiving
and loving, that will lead to his death and resurrection.
In a similar way, our Baptisms send us out on our
mission that we share with Christ: we bring his truth and
his love into the world through our words and actions. As
we celebrate the Lord’s Baptism, we recommit ourselves
to our baptismal mission of living as the Body of Christ
in the world. This last feast day of the Christmas season
sends us out to live gospel values as we bear witness to
the presence of Jesus in our lives. The Christmas season
may end, but the effect of Christ’s birth still lives on in our
lives transformed and empowered by the same Spirit that
came upon Christ at his Baptism. One poet explained it
this way…
Se acabó. La temporada terminó. Guarden sus
decoraciones.
When the song of the angels is stilled
when the star in the sky is gone
when the kings and the princes are home
when the shepherds are back with their flocks
the work of Christmas begins
to find the lost
to heal the broken
to feed the hungry
to release the prisoner
to rebuild the nations
to bring peace among the people
to make music in the heart.
(Howard Thurman)
Yours in Christ,
(Howard Thurman)
Suyos en Cristo,
