Blessed are you who fear the Lord.
— Psalm 128:1a
Get Ready
The Letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are among his earliest writings, and are driven
by his belief and the belief of the entire early Christian community that the return of Christ
was imminent. Therefore, to devote time or attention to anything else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor receded a bit. Today we may wonder, when we hear
these readings about the coming end-times, if we should take them to heart. What
should we do when we hear that the day of the Lord will come upon us “like a thief at
night”? (1 Thessalonians 5:2) Does this mean we are to stop our
long-range goal-setting, get rid of our yearly calendars and planners, or
stop putting money in the college education fund? Of course not. What
it does mean is that we need to change our lives, living like children of
the light and illuminating the world around us with the light of the
gospel. Then, on that day, when the details of our daily living become
unimportant, we will be ready to find our peace and security in Christ
Jesus.
What is on our front cover?
Our “Fuego Nuevo” Youth Group Kids!
Fr. Blas and Sister Josefina started the group about 10 years ago while they were in
charged of the Hispanic Community. Some of the activities the group does are helping
out in the Salvation Army kitchen feeding the homeless, visiting the Sisters in
St. Scholastica Monastery and helping out with the IC Spring Festival, Hispanic Festival,
etc. Around Christmas time the group partners
with the Hispanic Youth Group “Nuevo
Amanecer” to host a posada/pastorela.
On a regular Saturday meeting, the group
usually plays games and talks about topics
concerning the Catholic faith.
The group meets every Saturday from 5:00
to 7:00 pm at the Youth Center and is open
for every 14 to 18 years old teen
interested in joining.

assistance through parishes and schools for 2014-15

Religious Education
Dear IC Parishioners,
I often wonder how readily most people actually listen to the words
we speak from rote memory during mass. At different and
unpredictable times, as the words are released from my mouth, it
feels as though time stops long enough for me to become intimately
aware of what I am saying. It is so distinct that I feel like God is
inviting me to see and know something in particular, which usually
means He is trying to teach me something. It happened on Sunday
as we prayed the Confiteor (the I Confess prayer). In that brief period
of prayerful reflection I felt as if God was asking, “Do you mean
this?” As I continue to consider the question, I am mindful of a time
before I ever attended a Catholic Mass. Back then, I was attending a
Baptist Church that regularly invited people to come forward and
confess their sins publicly in front of “God and Everybody” present,
which to me seemed utterly humiliating. Here I am now, simply and
publicly acknowledging the truth that God already knows, I have
greatly sinned. Although they are a general reference, somehow, I
think that these words have the potential to cause all of us to look
inside ourselves and allow God to reveal that which He hopes to
change, almost as if he is leading us through a dark place while He
shines a light for us to notice (without fear) particular things. Through
grace, I found myself making a mental list of things I regret having
done or said (and then felt grateful that our Church offers private
confession), and felt God’s invitation to accept His help in leaving
them behind.
My heart is filled with gratitude that God sees me as being worth His
time and effort. I pray that I may become the disciple He is calling
me to be.
Your Servant in Christ,
Mrs. Surennah Werley

Statement- Mass and the Mission of our homes
A Message from Dc. Greg Pair
My Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
The bible says we should feed and cloth the homeless and those in need. I
know this parish is very generous in helping the less fortunate. But, I would
ask you to please don’t give money to those who approach you after Mass
or after you have attended a function here on our church campus. Many of
these people are in need and we want to help them, so
please tell them they can come and see Dc. Greg on
Monday or in the morning. Most people’s needs are
very real but we have a few who will deceive you. I
would ask you to please put the money that you would
have given them in the poor box located at the North
entrance of the church. This way I can help them in your name. When you
give them money in the parking lot, it brings more people to the masses
asking for help. So, please be generous and give to the poor box. I will do
my best to help them as you would.
God Bless,
Dc. Greg

Friendship/Amistad
nuestros talentos, recetas, culturas, idiomas y corazones. Tenemos
compartir tu cultura, ¡ven y únete a nosotros! Ven

Dc. Greg
