WORSHIP AND SPIRITUALITY
On Tuesday, October 21, the Mission-
aries of the Precious Blood celebrate
the feast of their founder, St. Gaspar
del Bufalo. He was a Roman-born
priest who was a renowned preacher
and an energetic organizer on a mission: he wanted to renew the Church
and heal the world with the power of
the Precious Blood of Jesus. He invited
three other priests to join him in founding the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1815. Two
hundred years later, his Missionaries—priests, brothers
and lay associates—help carry his message, that the
Blood of Jesus can energize, unite and save us.

Because of the continued generosity of our cluster community, the
St. Vincent de Paul Society, during the month of September, was
able to assist 41 needy families in our area providing a total of
$1,990.73 in support. The money was used to help the families
meet obligations in the following ways: 5 with rent, 30 with utilities,
1 with medicine and 5 with food. In addition, $4,390.99 has been
pledged to 86 families who are in the process of completing
pledge assistance. This money will help 65 of the families with
their utilities and 21 with their rent. Thank you, you are making a
difference with your continued prayers and gifts for our neighbors
who need support.

PEACE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
We must not underestimate the power of prayer. Let us get
on our knees and PRAY in earnest for PEACE.
“The spiritual power of the Sacraments is boundless. With grace,
we can overcome every obstacle.” Pope Francis@Pontifex, Oct.
11
“Let us ask the Lord for the grace not to speak badly of others, not
to criticize, not to gossip, but rather to love everyone.” Pope Francis@Pontifex, Oct. 7
We are reminded:
“I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day. No one should think that this invitation is not
meant for him or her, since “no one is excluded from the joy
brought by the Lord.” The Lord does not disappoint those who
take this risk; whenever we take a step towards Jesus, we come
to realize that he is already there, waiting for us with open arms.”
Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, The Joy of the Gospel, Libreria
Editrice Vaticana, 2013, No. 3.

“SHREK THE MUSICAL”
In concluding our 86th anniversary year, Marian
Theatre Guild presents the Northwest Indiana
premier of ‘SHREK THE MUSICAL”, directed by
Shelly Graves Crosby. Production dates are
November 1-2, 8-9 and 15-16.
The story line is...in a faraway kingdom turned upside down things
get ugly when an unseemly ogre—not a handsome prince—
shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who
won’t shut up and a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with
an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve
got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one
on hand...and his name is Shrek. Full of all-new songs, great
dancing and breathtaking scenery, “Shrek The Musical” is part
romance, part twisted fairy tale and fun for everyone. Saturday
after dinner show available. Box office opens October 20th 7-9:00
pm. 219-473-7555. A special ticket price, for grade school
children attending the Sunday production only and accompanied
by an adult, will be $6.00. Ticket prices for high school students
and senior citizens is $12.00 and general admission is $15.00

SCHOOL NEWS
We are proud to report that our school received an “A” rating
from the State of Indiana based on our students’ ISTEP+ results
this past school year. The ISTEP+ tests are administered in
grades 3-8 each year in all schools accredited by the State of
Indiana. The ratings are based on the amount of growth in student achievement from one year to the next in the areas of English/Language Arts and Math. We commend our teachers and
students for their wonderful efforts as well as our school parents
for their support of their children’s education at SJB.
On October 23rd and 24th, our teachers will be attending the Indiana Non-Public Education Conference in Indianapolis. Our faculty will be joining hundreds of other Catholic and non-public educators in this two-day event. Two keynote speakers and a variety of
professional development workshops will be offered for all teachers in all grade levels and subject areas.
