“Then the devil left him” Just as
desire for the light follows from
healthy eyes, so a desire to pray
follows from fasting conducted with
discernment. When someone begins to
fast, he wants to commune with God in
the thoughts of his heart. Indeed, the fasting body cannot endure
sleeping on its bed the whole night through. When fasting has
sealed a man’s lips, he carries out his meditation in a spirit of
compunction: his heart prays, his face is serious, evil thoughts
depart from him; he is the enemy of lust and vain conversation.
Never has anyone been seen who fasts with discernment and is
enslaved by evil desires. Fasting with discernment is like a great
dwelling place that shelters every sort of good…
For fasting is the command set before our nature from the
beginning to keep it from eating the fruit of the tree (Gn 2:17),
and it is from this that what deceives us comes forth… This is
also what the Savior began with when he was revealed to the
world in the Jordan. For after baptism the Spirit led him into
the desert, where he fasted forty days and forty nights.
All who set out to follow him do the same: that is the
foundation on which they set the beginning of their combat,
since this weapon has been forged by God… And when the
devil now sees this weapon in a man’s hand, that enemy and
tyrant begins to be afraid. He thinks at once of the defeat
inflicted on him by the Savior in the desert, remembers what
happened and his power is broken. He shrivels away at the
sight of the weapon given us by the one who leads us into
combat. What more powerful weapon is there that so revives
our courage in the fight against the evil spirits?
ANNOUNCEMENT
TODAY’S SECOND COLLECTION is for Black and Indian
Mission
ABSTINENCE requires a Catholic 14 years of age until
death to abstain from eating meat on Fridays in honor of
the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday. During Lent
abstinence from meat on Fridays is obligatory in the
United States as elsewhere, and it is sinful not to observe
this discipline without a serious reason (physical labor,
pregnancy, sickness etc.).
FASTING requires a Catholic from the 18th Birthday to
the 59th Birthday to reduce the amount of food eaten
from normal. Those who are excused from fast or
abstinence Besides those outside the age limits, those of
unsound mind, the sick, the frail, pregnant or nursing
women
according
to
need
for
meat
or
nourishment, manual laborers according to need, guests
at a meal who cannot excuse themselves without giving
great offense or causing enmity and other situations of
moral or physical impossibility to observe the penitential
discipline.
WAY OF THE CROSS.
Every Friday, we will pray the Way of the
Cross after 8:00 AM mass and 12:30 PM
at the convent. Let us prepare ourselves to

St. Casimir Luncheon
The Knights of Lithuania will hold a luncheon on Sunday,
March 19, in honor of the Feast day of St.Casimir at 1pm
in Pranckus Hall. The price is $10 and reservations are

2017 ANNUAL BISHOP’S APPEAL. As the 2017
Annual Bishop’s Appeal begins, the Development
office is grateful for all of us have done supporting
the important ministries funded through our
generosity.

the Holy Thursday Repository, the
envelopes to make the request are at the
back of the Church. Please fill out the
information and drop it in the collection
basket. Candles will have your intentions and will be

"Entonces el demonio lo deja"
De la
misma manera que el deseo de la luz es propio
de los ojos sanos, el deseo de la oración es
propio del ayuno llevado con discernimiento.
Cuando un hombre empieza a ayunar, desea
que los pensamientos de su espíritu estén en comunión con Dios.
En efecto, el cuerpo que ayuna no soporta dormir toda la noche
sobre su cama. Cuando la boca del hombre ha sido sellada por el
ayuno, éste medita en estado de compunción, su corazón ora, su
rostro es grave, los malos pensamientos le abandonan; es
enemigo de codicias y de vanas conversaciones. Nadie ha visto
jamás a un hombre ayunar con discernimiento y estar sujeto a
malos deseos. El ayuno llevado con discernimiento es como una
gran
mansión
que
acoge
todo
bien…
Porque desde el principio se dio a nuestra naturaleza la orden
de ayunar, para no comer el fruto del árbol (Gn 2,17), y es de allí
que viene quien nos engaña… Es también por él que comenzó
nuestro Salvador, cuando fue revelado al mundo en el Jordán.
En efecto, después del bautismo, el Espíritu le condujo al
desierto, donde ayunó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches.
Todos los que desean seguirle hacen lo mismo desde
entonces: es sobre este fundamento que comienzan su combate,
porque esta arma ha sido forjada por Dios… Y cuando ahora el
diablo ve esta arma en la mano del hombre, este adversario y
tirano se pone a temblar. Piensa inmediatamente en la derrota
que el Salvador le infligió en el desierto, se acuerda de ella, y su
poder se siente quebrado. Desde el momento en que ve el arma
que nos dio el que nos lleva al combate, se consume. ¿Hay un
arma más poderosa que el ayuno y que avive tanto el corazón en
la lucha contra los espíritus del mal?

LA SEGUNDA COLECTA DE ESTE FIN DE SEMANA
Para las misiones Black and Indian.
ABSTINENCIA. Todos los viernes de Cuaresma deben
guardarse la abstinencia de carne.
AYUNO. El miércoles de Ceniza y
el viernes Santo solo se debe
comer una comida fuerte al día. La
ley eclesiástica obliga a guardar
abstinencia a los que hayan
cumplido catorce años de edad y a
practicar el ayuno, a todos los mayores de edad (18
años), hasta que hayan cumplido 59 años.
VIA CRUCIS.
Para prepararnos bien durante el tiempo
de cuaresma todos los viernes rezaremos
en Via Crucis, 8:00 AM, 12:30 PM en el
convento de las hermanas y a las 7:00
PM para vivir profundamente ésta
cuaresma.
DESAYUNO EN FAMILIA: Acompáñanos todos los
domingos después de la Santa Misa a compartir en
comunidad un delicioso desayuno en el cual
podremos conocernos como comunidad de FE
CLASES DE PREPARACION PARA BAUTISMOS:
MES DE MARZO: martes 14 y 21 a partir de
las 7:00 pm. Los bautismos serán para la
Pascua.
MES DE ABRIL: martes 18 y 25, 7:00 pm.

Grupo “Sagrada Familia”: Queremos informarles que el
tercer sábado 18 de febrero después de misa de 7:00
pm en el basement de la iglesia, pero por el retiro
suspenderemos la reunión este mes. En marzo 18
después de misa de 7 pm nos juntaremos . Para mayor
información hablar con el padre Elio.
ORATORIO PARA LOS NIÑOS!!!
Todos los niños de 6 a 12 años de edad
están invitados todos los martes de 4:30
pm a 6:30 pm. Tendremos tiempo para
hacer sus tares, juegos, snack, charlitas,

monaguillos:
Todos los niños de 8 a 15 años todos los viernes de 5:00
pm hasta las 7:00 pm reunión en la parroquia. Y los
domingos después de misa de español tendremos
práctica en la iglesia. Para más información hablar con el
padre Elio. De nuestra parroquia tienen que salir más
jóvenes para la vida sacerdotal.
GRUPO DE NINAS
Todos los viernes de 5:00 pm a 7:00 pm. Nos reunimos
en el convento. Tendremos charlas, oración, juegos,
entretenimiento, paseos y mucho más; para que puedan
disfrutar de una tarde divertida y sana. Hablar con las
hermanas.
CAMPAÑA ANUAL DEL OBISPO. Este fin de semana
realizaremos LA COLECTA ANUAL DEL OBISPO. De éste
modo ponemos en marcha la Campaña Anual de 2017. Su
generosidad a la Diócesis de Bridgeport es un faro de
esperanza para el pueblo de Condado de Fairfield y agradece
su apoyo. Sus donaciones ayudan a los trabajadores pobres,
ancianos y personas sin hogar a través de Caridades Católicas,
que permiten la existencia de las escuelas católicas; apoya la
educación religiosa; fomenta las vocaciones y el cuidado de
nuestros sacerdotes retirados. La meta éste año es de
$17,000 dólares. Esperamos contar con su generosidad.
