Grabado es una forma de arte única que fomenta el pensamiento creativo, la experimentación, escuchar habilidades y la comunidad en el aula.
Grabado es una forma de arte basados en la comunidad física, a diferencia de cualquier otro medio que siempre conduce a la emoción y el
compromiso en el aula. Construir y crear la matriz de impresión permiten a los estudiantes a darse cuenta de que hay numerosas maneras para iniciar
una obra de arte o atacar un problema.
A los estudiantes en la escuela Beach se les presentará elementos de arte y diseño, así como participar en debates sobre impresiones artísticas
contemporáneas. Ellos aprenderán el proceso de grabado mientras trabajan en piezas de colaboración con proyectos de impresión individuales más
grandes. Durante esta residencia nos centraremos en cómo cada individuo único hace que la comunidad y la cultura de la escuela mas fuerte y por qué
esto es importante.
Queridas Familias de Beach,
En las últimas semanas hemos tenido muchas familias que han
expresado preocupación y temor debido a nuestro ambiente
político actual y esos temores fueron elevados aún más por las
recientes órdenes ejecutivas del presidente. A la luz de esto, todos
debemos ser sensibles y apoyar a aquellos en nuestra comunidad
que sienten esta incertidumbre, especialmente aquellos en
nuestras comunidades inmigrantes, musulmanas y transgéneros.
En primer lugar, quiero decir que Beach es un lugar seguro
para todos los estudiantes. Damos la bienvenida, respetamos y
honramos la diversidad de todos nuestros estudiantes, nuestras
familias y nuestro personal. Es lo que nos hace entender las
diferencias. Es lo que nos hace ciudadanos empáticos y cariñosos.

Estamos comprometidos a mantener un ambiente inclusivo para

Ockley Green Middle School is hosting an open house for incoming
students entering the 6th grade in 2017-18 school year on March 8, 6
PM- 7:30 PM. The night will include an overview of the school and its
programs, as well as a campus tour. Please invite neighbors, friends and
new families in our community to attend this informative night.
OFFICE CLOSURES
Beginning March 1st, the school office will close each Wednesday
at 3:30 PM for staff mtg. This will be in effect for the remainder of the
school year. Please make sure your child’s after school care begins when
school is dismissed at 3 PM each day. Thank you for your cooperation.
Congratulations to Beach’s Chess Team for placing 1st at the
Regional Chess Tournament this year! Come check out the new
trophy in our case in the main hall. Chess coaches Mr. McGrady
and Mr Kocher lead our team to victory. Maxwell Peterson, Riley
Kim, Jonas Reyes, and Lucas Reyes all qualified for the state
tournament through individual play. Joining them on March 10
at the state tournament will also be Maxwell Walker, Kaleb Scott,
Izaiah Cole, Arris Andrew, Adam Alvidrez, and Otto Shambaugh.

Printmaking is a unique art form that fosters creative thinking, experimentation, listening skills, and community in the classroom. Printmaking is a physical,
community based art form unlike any other medium that always leads to excitement and engagement in the classroom. Building and creating the print
matrix allows students to realize there are numerous ways to start a work of art or attack a problem.
The students at Beach will be introduced to elements of art and design, as well as participate in discussions on contemporary fine art prints. They will
learn the process of printmaking as they work on individual print projects and larger collaborative pieces. During this residency we will focus on how each
unique individual makes the community and culture of the school strong and why this is important.
Dear Beach Families,
In the past few weeks we have had many families come forward
and express concern and fear because of our current political
environment and those fears were elevated even more by the
president’s recent executive orders. In light of that, we must all
be sensitive and supportive to those in our community who feel
this uncertainty, especially those from our immigrant, Muslim, and
transgender communities. First, I want to be clear that Beach is a
safe place for all students. We welcome, respect, and honor the
diversity of all our students, families, and staff. It is what makes us
understand differences. It is what makes us empathetic and caring
citizens. It is what makes us strong. It is what makes us beautiful.
We are committed to maintaining an inclusive environment for
everyone, regardless of their immigration status, race, color,
gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, or religion. And
all students, regardless of their parents’ immigration status, have
a Constitutional right to education through our schools. We do
not collect or track any information regarding a student’s or their
family members’ immigration or citizenship status. Also, every PPS
school closely protects the confidentiality of students’ personal
information, and absolutely no personal or emergency contact
information will be made public. In the case that ICE should come
to our school, we have a district-wide protocol in place to protect
our students and families.
In order to help navigate the changes we are experiencing, we
have connected with local organizations to plan information nights
for families to know what their rights are as well as how others
can become allies in supporting our community in these uncertain
times.

STATE TE S TING
QUIÉN, QUÉ, CUÁNDO Y DÓNDE:
Who: Students in grades 3-5 will take the Smarter Balanced tests in math and English language arts (reading, writing).
Why: The tests measure how much students are learning and where support is needed.
When: March 13 through May (your classroom teacher will have specific dates for each class soon)
What: Instead of only multiple-choice questions, the tests also use audio clips and illustrations that help students apply their knowledge and
critical thinking skills to real-world situations using the computer.
— Grades 3-8: The test results are NOT used to “hold students back.” The results help show where more support, resources or teacher training is
needed. The district also uses the results to identify students who qualify as Talented and Gifted (TAG).
— Students with special needs: The test is given in English. The test includes supports for students who are learning English and/or have an
Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Supports include such tools as a translated glossary for English language learners, a scratch pad, Braille and

Volunteering at Beach...We love having parents volunteer in our classrooms and
chaperone on field trips. All volunteers must complete a background check prior to
volunteering their time at Beach or for school activities. PPS background checks are
available online. The approval process takes approximately two weeks and is good
for 3 years. Renewals can be completed within 30 days of expiration. Please go to
the PPS Security Services department page to complete your application.

Our Beach Preschool through Multnomah Early Childhood Program is still enrolling
children ages 3 to 5.
The preschool offers two time slots, 8:40-11:25 AM OR 12:15-3:00 PM. Tuition is $32
per month, with free and reduced tuition available for families who qualify. Please
