A note from Father Brian
I love this time of year, because Thanksgiving is right around the corner! I often remind people that
“Thanksgiving” is our translation of the Greek word “Eucharist.” What better way to give thanks to God for all
the many blessings He gives us, than by coming to Mass on a day when you don’t have to do so!
Mass on Thanksgiving Day is at 10 a.m., the only Mass of the day. You are welcome to bring a food item (bread,
wine, etc.) that will be shared at your Thanksgiving meal, so it can be blessed. In recognition of our blessings,
we will take up a collection for our Neighbors Helping Neighbors food pantry during the Mass. Donations of
canned goods and other non-perishable items are also most welcome. Our Thanksgiving liturgy will conclude
with a “litany of gratitude” so that those in attendance can express their thanks (a few words only, please, so that
nobody’s dinner will burn). Finally, all our parish offices and facilities will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
After Thanksgiving there is another month before the year ends, but it is already a good time to think about the giving of gifts. Often
simply recalling how richly God has blessed us, inspires us to be generous in return. If the holidays inspire you to make a gift to St.
Gregory the Great Catholic Church, then allow me to thank you on behalf of our community, the very same people you meet and
pray with each week. Many people enjoy making donations before year’s end because they also receive a number of benefits:
 All gifts made on or before December 31 are tax-deductible for the tax year in which the gift is made.
 It is satisfying to know that your gift is assisting a favorite Catholic institution and advancing the mission of the Catholic
Church here on earth.
 Giving in the true spirit of the season is a great way to celebrate the joy of Christmas.
 “Last-minute” people can still give that special (or increased) gift they had been planning to make all year.
 Itemizers can lessen their tax liability for the tax year in which their gift is made.
 Those who have never itemized before might decide to do so because of their gift this year and thereby lower their tax bill
(check with a tax adviser).
 “Carryover deductions” might be available, depending on your age and income and the size of your gift, allowing you to “carry
over” your charitable gift tax deduction to subsequent years.
Most important, you are making a return to God of your blessings and at the same time assisting our parish to serve God’s people
and His Church here on earth.
A variety of ways to give are available, including securities (stocks, bonds, and shares in mutual funds), life insurance, cash and
property. Many companies also offer “matching gifts” programs which might not benefit us directly here at St. Gregory the Great
parish, but could double the value of your gift to our Elementary School. Regardless of how you give, please know that your gift is
very much appreciated.
May God continue to belss your generosity!
Me agrada muchísimo este tiempo del año porque el Día de Acción de Gracias está ¡a la vuelta de la esquina! Siempre recuerdo a las personas que
“Acción de Gracias” es nuestra traducción de la palabra Griega “Eucaristía.” Qué mejor manera de dar gracias a Dios por todas las bendiciones recibidas de El, que
viniendo a Misa en un día que generalmente no lo hacemos.
La Misa de Acción de Gracias será a las 10:00 de la mañana, la única Misa en el día. Están invitados a traer cualquier alimento (pan, vino, etc.) que
compartirán en su cena de Acción de Gracias, para ser bendecida. En reconocimiento de nuestras bendiciones solicitaremos una colecta para la despensa de Vecinos
Ayudando a Vecinos durante la Misa. Donaciones de alimentos enlatados serán también muy bien recibidos. Nuestra Liturgia de Acción de Gracias terminará con
una “letanía de gratitud” de manera que las personas presentes puedan expresar su agradecimiento (unas pocas palabras solamente, de manera que ¡ninguna cena se
queme!) Finalmente, nuestra oficina parroquial y todos los salones de reuniones permanecerán cerrados los días Jueves y Viernes.
Después del Día de Acción de Gracias, tenemos un mes más antes de terminarse el año, pero ya es un buen tiempo para pensar acerca de entrega de
regalos. Con frecuencia recordando cómo tan ricamente Dios nos ha bendecido, nos inspira a ser generosos en retorno. Si las fiestas los inspira a hacer un obsequio a
la Iglesia de San Gregorio Magno, entonces, déjenme agradecerles en nombre de la comunidad, las mismas personas con quienes ustedes oran cada semana. A
muchas personas les agrada hacer una donación antes de terminarse el año porque de esa manera reciben grandes beneficios.
-Todos los obsequios donados en Diciembre o antes del 31 servirán como impuestos deducibles por ese año.
-Es muy satisfactorio saber que su donación está ayudando a su favorita institución Católica de manera de poder avanzar la misión de la Iglesia Católicva aquí en la
tierra..
-Obsequiar durante el verdadero espíritu de la época es una grandiosa manera de celebrar el regocijo de Navidad.
-“A última hora” todas las personas que han estado pensando hacer esa donación especial (o aumentarla) aún pueden hacerlo.
-Detallando pueden disminuir la responsabilidad de impuestos durante el año en el cual hicieron su donación.
-Aquellos que nunca han detallado, podrán hacerlo debido a su donación de éste año y reducir su cuenta de impuestos (chequeen con su asesor fiscal).
-:Posponer deducciones” puede ser permitido de acuerdo a la edad y sus ingresos y la a cantidad de su donación, permitiéndoles “posponer” su deducción de caridad
para los años posteriores.
-Lo más importante es que ustedes están regresando a Dios todas sus bendiciones y al mismo tiempo ayudando a nuestra parroquia a servir al pueblo de Dios y Su
Iglesia aquí en la tierra.
Existen muchas maneras de donar, incluyendo bonos (fondos de inversión, acciones, fondos mutuos), seguros de vida, dinero y
propiedades. Muchas compañías también ofrecen programas de “equiparación de donativos”, que por supuesto no nos ayudaría aquí en San
Gregorio Magno, pero puede ayudar doblemente con su donación a nuestra Escuela. De cualquier manera que usted contribuya, su donación es
muy agradecida.

recoger a los niños.

El Centro de Asistencia Familiar Vecinos Ayudando a Vecinos, está
necesitando ayuda monetaria o de alimentos en preparación a los
próximos días festivos. Continuamos recibiendo donaciones en el
